Stick with the cafe offerings. The market items do not have prices listed and everything is way overpriced (think $5 for a bottle of water). They do have a selection of fresh gluten free pastries and kept them mostly (though not entirely) separated from the glutenous offerings. If you want safe gluten-free products, I'd highly recommend Le Marquis on the same street.
This place was a super cute little cafe that sells not only drinks and pastries but they had a few souvenirs also. It was busy but the line moved fast. The decor was very vintage French and very quaint. I had the golden milk which was an interesting flavor with a pain au chocolates. My mum had a latte and my dad had a hot chocolate both with a blueberry cheesecake Danish. The pastries were nothing special but the coffee was good I'd come back for the vibe.
This small cafe was steps from my hotel Epik so I stopped to grab a snack and goodies for the road. Its a gift store and cafe combined with tons of fun drinks to go. The café was half full Monday at 1230 and the counter server seemed overwhelmed. Many customers revisited the counter asking for items that were missed. The wait for my cappuccino wasnt anything drastic . The counter server also offered to press the roast beef sandwich I ordered to go from the cooler. Cappuccino was 5 stars but the scone 1. It tasted like undercooked flour biqsuick? The feta was a few super large chunks that fell out with each bite. And there was no salt no flavor it just existed. The roast beef sandwich had sprouts which didn't compliment the hearty meat or bread. I could have sworn the label said arugula. I didn't get any spread until the final bites of the sandwich. The dark chocolate bar and herbal mate iced tea were great. But these were retail items not house made. Compared to the other cafes and pastaserrires I visited that weekend this spot was not my favorite

Well, look no further than the green door that leads you into Le Petit Dep, there are seven of them in the area. After a long walking day doing touristy things, we wanted to bring a snack back to our hotel, so we visited their Rue St-Paul Ouest café in the heart of Old Montreal. We were overwhelmed by their Patisserie menu of delicious pastries, croissants, biscuits, scones, cakes, muffins and more . We narrowed down our choices to a Chocolate Raspberry scone and an Almond scone. I absolutely cannot tell you which one was the best, because they were both amazing. They were fresh, flaky, with plenty of chocolate slivers, raspberries, and sliced almonds. They were sweet but not too sweet, and both were big portions. They were fantastic. I wanted something different to drink, so scanned their menu for the unfamiliar and decided on a Café Allongé, which is an elongated shot of espresso, so it isn't as strong as a regular espresso. It was a nice accompaniment to those decadent pastries. We had breakfast at a different Petit Dep on Friday morning and loved their chocolate croissant and cheese and spinach croissant. They were fantastic as well.
My husband and I came here for hot chocolate (both light and dark), and shared the cheese scone, chocolate chip cookie, date bar and Twix bar. Everything was great, but the date bar was the best of all. Numerous unique gift items for sale as well-good, clothing, toys, ornaments, etc. Very friendly staff as well. Several tables inside if you dine in too.
I thought this would be a tourist trap as this is right in the middle of the Old Town Montreal, and the sign says they have been operating since 1822, but the place is legit. LOVED this little cafe - It represents the best of Montreal! Not only for its cozy ambiance with its storefront with its wooden signage in a beautiful mint green and wooden floors but its employees and people who were there to hang out. Sells unique gift items as a refreshing alternative to what you may find in the Old City section of Montreal selling stuff made in China. (I really tried my best to avoid buying souvenirs that aren't locally made or not made in Canada since what's the point anyway not to buy something from the actual country you are visiting?) Oh yes, and their coffee and pastries/desserts are very yummy, do pay a visit!
Super popular smaller coffee and cafe place near the Basilica. Lots of foot traffic, they were out of cold brew but the iced americano did the trick. The chocolate croissant was tasty and service was friendly despite being very busy.
Cafe and gift shop and ready meals to go. Stopped by here to grab a dark hot chocolate with milk, which sounds good on this cold, wet and rainy day in Montreal. Ordered a small dark hot chocolate for C$6.05. The hot chocolate was a hint of dark chocolate, but was quite weak and mostly tasted of milk. Not good.
A small but cute place in the Old Port. It's one of the only places that is open until later in the day so it's amazing for a late night snack. The coffee here is great, their teas too. The gelato was honestly great which I was not expecting and what pleasantly surprised. The staff has been nice everytime we visit. An amazing place and stop if you are in the Old Port.
Quaint little coffee shop. Really busy, but super friendly and polite staff. Good place to grab a coffee if you're nearby. Good flat white.

A quintessential Montréal neighbourhood dépanneur . Le Dep nails the authentic local corner store vibe tourists crave. Great spot to grab ready-to-eat sandwiches, smoked meat subs and cold drinks for a quick stroll around the historic district. Staff are warm and bilingual, quick with recommendations for hidden nearby eateries. Prices are reasonable for downtown Old Montréal, no crazy tourist markup. read more

We stopped by for snacks and drinks after visiting Notre Dame. The staff was super friendly. I was trying to decide between a chocolate and coffee shake, and the barista said they could make me a chocolate shake with coffee. It was delicious! I also had a cheddar cheese and greens onions scone, which was also really good. My husband had a lemonade with honey. He said it wasn't sweet at all, so it wasn't his favorite. If you're nearby and want some refreshing drinks and parties, I definitely recommend stopping by! read more
I really just stopped in to get a hot chocolate and get out of the cold. While waiting for my drink, I checked the store. The store itself has an incredible amount of delectable looking food and drink stuffs. I honestly wanted to get everything. After about 5-10 minutes my name was called and my hot chocolate was ready. It looked pretty as a picture with its whipped cream and cocoa design. Unfortunately it did not taste as good as it looked. It wasn't bad, just average. read more

I found this coffee shop on Instagram before going to Montreal for the first time and was so happy I decided to visit them. I knew I had to return on my second trip to Montreal. The ambiance, GF goodies, gifts and coffee are all amazing! I love it and recommend for anyone who likes good coffee. The service is also wonderful. read more
This retail space could have been used as a movie location for a charming shop in any small town in France. Or a Hallmark rom com. We found it in Old Montreal, which is a fair equivalent. On one side of the space, there are spots for enjoying a coffee and a light snack. Towards the back, there is a refrigerated case for cold beverages. Tempting, given the high temperatures that day. There was also merchandise displayed invitingly for tourists, under the beautiful stained glass pendants. I always notice the lighting. At the front, three shopkeepers made fancy coffees, pulled soft-serve cones, and took orders for baked goods. I had the special cone of the day, swirl soft serve, in a cup, as well as a peanut-butter sandwich cookie. We sat outside on the small bench, by the window box of flowers for me to enjoy the ice cream - it had been a long day and I only had a breakfast pastry. The peanut butter cookie was incredibly dry, after two bites, I gave up. Service was just okay. read more
Nice respite from the bars and shops nearby, reminds me of a Bavarian bookstore in Leavenworth, Wa, but perplexed by the classic rock and CCR soundtrack. Had a Boston cream donut and sweet hot chocolate after we scored 2 of the 3 window seats. Seating arrangement otherwise seems inconvenient with large middle table and barely any standing room for people ordering to go. No bathroom onsite. Can collectors will barge right in to the main area with their filled garbage bags to collect bottles somewhere in the back, watch your elbows! read more
Cute cafe conveniently located in downtown Montreal. The cafe itself is quite small but offers a wide array of pastries, food, and coffee beverages. Also a great spot for getting souvenirs- lots of maple syrup and cute Montreal items (magnets, mugs, bags, etc). The souvenir stuff is on the pricier side compared to some of the other shops but it's just so cute you have to visit. read more

Le Petit Dep is a charming café and dépanneur (convenience store) in Old Montreal. The café is decorated with lights and greenery, making it look right out of a storybook. I ordered a croissant and Le Feel Good, a ginger tea that warmed me up in the December cold. There are several Le Petit Dep in this neighborhood and it is a good place to stop by for a quick snack or drink. read more
Looking for a place to sit and have a cup of coffee and snack was challenging when Montreal is flooded with tourists. Bus loads of people arrived in Old Montreal with good weather to enjoy. This little cafe has a small sitting area and a line of people for coffee and soft serve ice cream. The small 3 person staff don't even have time to clean the tables of used napkins and pastry crumbs especially on the window counter or empty the full trash can by the door. The mocha and latte were good. We tried a mushroom, onion and cheese scone which was very dry but tasted OK. It needed more milk, cream, buttermilk or butter in it. The exterior of the scone was a bit hard too. I make scones at home and more buttermilk would've helped keep it soft and tender. The chocolate croissant was fair. Hubby has tried a lot of croissants and said it wasn't as flaky and buttery with only a sliver of chocolate inside. We have bakeries that make better croissants at home. The store is other wise very cute like walking into a storybook shop. There is a duffel bag sized ATM in the back of the store. Come for the coffee and maybe the ice cream. read more

Another great cafe along Rue St. Paul, a popular walking street in Old Montreal. The turquoise facade is what caught my attention. Le Petit Dep is primarily a cafe and has sandwiches, refrigerated items, and a center island of gifts and treats to peruse. I enjoyed a delicious macchiato and a ham and cheese sandwich wrapped in paper. Who could ask for more! read more

We were getting hungry and from the outside this looked adorable so we went in. Along with a barista and food counter they had a large refrigerated area of drinks and then a wall of many jarred goods and some items like coffee cups and other small Knick knacks. The appearance is quite cozy and cute. Their food is all premade and when I ordered a sandwich I was told they were out of it. Our small group chose salads and a different sandwich instead. It may be a Montréal law, but when we tried to buy one of the many drinks they sell that contained alcohol, we were told we could not have it with our lunch. So a different choice was made. The salads tasted fresh, although there was not near enough dressing included so the last half of the salad was quite dry. The sandwich received a thumbs up. They have signs on the tables that tell people this is a no computer area so no one lingers too long, and if that is not enough they do not offer any bathrooms either. So basically pay and get out. Not too friendly so we won't be back. read more
