This was my first time here, and will definitely be my last. My usual nail spot was booked, and I needed my acrylics removed as they were no longer allowed at my job. I called ahead and asked if they could see me that afternoon to remove my acrylics and to get a gel manicure. The lady I spoke with told me to come then. When arriving 5-minutes later, I still had to wait 20-30 minutes. Seemed to me that this nail spot accommodates regulars, and dismisses new customers. There were two ladies who walked in after me that knew the nail technicians and they were helped quicker, and I am sure left more happy then I did. When I was taken back, I explained again that I wanted my acrylics removed and a gel manicure as I was aware that my nails would be brittle after having acrylics for over 6-months. This technician did not use acetone or the electric nail file to make removing my acrylics easier or less-painful. He dug an acrylic tip under all my acrylics and forced the nail off damaging my nail even more than if I just removed them myself at home. The first nail he removed the acrylic off of started bleeding and not from a cuticle. He dug that acrylic tip between my nail and the acrylic and removed part of my actual nail from my skin in the middle of my pinky finger. I could see my skin showing and my finger was in tremendous pain. He then finished removing all my acrylics and kept sanding, applying acetone, and filing that nail with blood and all still on it. He tried getting me the color samples for the gel manicure and I had to tell him that I was not going to put gel on top of this nail that really did not have a nail anymore. He kept trying to tell me that it was fine and that it would be ok and I had to insist a couple times that it would not be a good idea. One, because gel polish would destroy what is left of this nail when removing it and secondly, because it hurt to damn much to do any more to it. The nail salon still charged $18 for this and told me to come back when my nail healed for that gel manicure. THAT IS NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN. read more

This place had some decent reviews and some bad ones so I decided to give it a try because I needed a fill bad. I always get dip powder because it seems to be the only thing that lasts on me. When I called this place they said it was $30 for dip powder. I thought that was a decent price so I went to go get them done. When I asked for their colors of powder she said they only have the clear or natural pink and then they paint over it. I had never tried that, so I figured I'd give it a try. She goes about taking off my old dip polish by drilling the top off a bit, which is normal, but the starts ripping off my nails with a cuticle cutter. She pulled them off and it HURT. Then she got a bowl full of acetone and made me put my entire hand in it which actually hurt my skin after a while. This place does not believe in foil on each individual nail and it was extremely painful. I do give it 3 stars because she ended up making my nails look pretty decent with just a paint job over the natural dip powder, but they should really consider a better way to remove nails, like foil! read more

Review UPDATE! Everything is brand-new! California Nails did a complete remodel of the salon and all of their equipment! The only thing the same is their awesome people! I love the look and feel of the new place, especially the new massage spa pedicure chairs! They even added sea salt scrub and hot towels to the spa pedicure for no extra charge. I love this place and recommend everyone I know! Reasonable prices and great staff. I never post negative reviews unless I feel there is a safety/health hazard. This place falls into both. They do not sterilize their instruments properly. When I asked to see the packet, I was shown one with an instrument and a nail file in it! Being in the medical field, I know what an autoclaved envelope looks like. Whenever I come to LA this is where my nails get did. I started coming here in the 2000s and love that they have a clean, sanitary environment and really decent prices. They're pretty dang quick with acrylics- full set took about 20 mins (before polish and shaping) and fills about half that time. The ladies are all super nice and love what they do! I always try to tip $15-20 just for that. They also offer you coffee or water and sometimes snacks. They are definitely interested in keeping you comfortable and happy. read more

I decided to go and try this place out for myself after reading the good and bad reviews here on Yelp. I am glad I did. The people who work here are very friendly and kind. What I really like is that they let you enjoy your manicure and pedicure without small talk. I have been to many other nail places where the workers think they need to talk to you the entire time and though it dosent really bother me it's just nice to go and enjoy it without all that. The spa pedicure was really enjoyable. The mani was good too with a nice arm massage to close the deal. I got the gel for both my toes and fingernails. The cost was about $60. Which to me isnt that bad. I would say if you are in the neighborhood give this place at least one try. I will be returning. read more

They're ok. I was in a rush and they are close to my house. Don't expect them to have any new techniques. They do basic nails and those weird 90's flower designs perfectly. Their selection of gel polishes is underwhelming. I showed her a pic of the design I wanted with crystals on it and she said she could do them. Once she finished shaping them she took out a box of those tacky toy looking gem stone things so I opted for a glitter accent nail instead. The color I had chosen looked more of a maroon than a red and as she was painting them they looked completely red. They looked nothing like what i wanted. I didn't even want to argue about it. Over charge her after them giving her a price and after she paid they kept her full change as a tip. After I told her the nails looked ugly and asked for her to fix it she got very offensive. She refused to use the nail polish my daughter wanted and told her to pick a different color. She even had the guts to tell me to be quiet and for me to talk about it with my daughter at home, For me not to say anything in front of anyone. I told her it's a free country and I can speak to my daughter about anything if I wanted too. MY LEGS ARE ON FIRE ! Went in for a manicure combo that include exfoliating and usually that just means they use a scrub n wash it off. today the lady that put the exfoliating scrub on me used a small hard scrub that seems like its meant to be used on the bottom of your feet but instead she used them on my legs . I felt a small cut and didn't think much of it until I left and I saw how many scratches appeared. Both legs and feet have scratches, I went back before closing to let them know what happened and THEY WERE NOT ACCOMMODATING AT ALL . All I received was TEN dollars back from the 50 dollars plus 10 tip I spent on this mani combo which was over priced for a exfoliate scrub that does nothing for your skin. Deeply disappointed my mani came out nice but the whole point of getting my mani done was to be able to wear shorts, now my legs look like cats have scratches them and is very irritated. When he tended to trim the edge nail from my big toe, I had to scream and asked him just drop it because I sense the pain from my toe..... At the same time, person did my medi has very low standard, she didnt even took my pervious nail color off completely, and ignore me when I reminded her couple time. I finally insist her to clean it off before she tried to put new color on, she couldn't even apply smooth nail color on so she had to blush back and forth. I knew I would do much better job than that for sure. A hour pass by , I saw another lady already has her service done and walk out store. I was still sitting there and saw them struggle to finish work. I couldn't even relax a little bit. This place was awful. They are inexpensive - $14 for a pedicure, but you're getting what you pay for. I only came here for a quick pedi on my lunch break. I have 2 regular places I go that cost $12 and $13 for pedicures and they do a fantastic job. The lady was so rough and I kept pulling my foot back, you'd think she'd ease up. I finally told her she was being too rough. She was wearing this giant fake ring, so when she would rinse my feet she kept scraping me with it. They didn't even have a fan or dryer and just had me put my bare feet on the floor to air dry. Lastly, they only take cash but I didn't see the sign till I was half way done. I'm writing this review before my pedicure is even dry, and I only have my debit card... So I'll let ya know how that goes haha! First time there and won't be going back. I hardly write any reviews, but this experience was upsetting. They were friendly but there work was horrible, at least the lady that did mine. I went in to get a pedicure and gel manicure so my nails would look nice at my bridal shower the following day. They started running the water and sat me at an old massage chair, little did I know I was getting the more expensive spa treatment. The following day, my bridesmaid noticed the polish and coat was on my skin, which meant it was going to peel easier. It was true, my gel fingernail polish started lifting after the 2nd day. And on the 5th day it's continuing, and two have even lifted completely off(I will post a pic). Also, half the polish has come off on one of my toes and is chipping on others, which never happens. My toe polish usually lasts until my nails start growing and I have to redo. I was not even washing dishes or working with my hands too much. I'm usually not very picky, but when my polish completely comes off it's upsetting. Not worth the $43! +tip! read more

This place is cheap and the staff is very friendly, the only two things it has going for it. I went in for a manicure and it's probably the worst manicure I've ever received, it wasn't completely awful but it wasn't great either. My polish wasn't even and looked messy, and the nail tech didn't even apply a base coat before applying the polish. Also, the cleanliness of the tools they used are questionable. Some of the nail files used were dusty and dirty, and the salon as a whole wasn't the cleanest. I should have walked out but didn't want to be rude. I decided to give this place a try after reading their yelp reviews. I went in on a Monday around 12:30ish and it was completely empty. I got seated right away. I asked for a gel manicure and was blown away by how large of a color selection they have! Love it. I didn't get the name of the lady that did my manicure, but she did a good job. I like the way they look and will definitely get my nails done here again. My manicure cost me $25 excluding tip. And beware, it is CASH ONLY. The reason I took a star away is because they didn't make conversation with me. Instead they only talked to each other in their language, so I had no idea what they were saying. This time a man did my full set. It was painful and he shaped them crooked and uneven...then when he put the acrylic powder he put way too much and made them thick...I honestly don't recommend you get them done with him. I made an appointment with high hope and showed up. I knew something was wrong when she was already painting my toes and no one asked me about my fill. They completely forgot that I asked for a fill. I waited 45 minutes for someone to start my hands. While waiting I noticed not only did she paint my toes the wrong color they looked horrible. First of all everyone was very rude, no one greeted me or asked if I can be helped, I had to ask if I can be helped and then some woman comes out from the back and very rudely tells me the prices. I was in a crunch for time I needed a mani and a pedi and I was not going to be able to make it to my original nail salon in time. My son practices sports in Duarte so I decided to look for the closest nail salon near me California Nails popped up. So I decided to get a mani and a pedi ( side note: a mani and a pedi combined cost $30 vs mani $12 and pedi $17 I guess it's cheaper when you get a service done one at a time, usually combos are cheaper from my experience). So I chose a nail polish same color for mani and pedi. I had two technicians one for each service. I was unsatisfied with the job done, I thought this is what happens when you wait for the last minute to get things done tried to justify the outcome. The nail polish used was drying out and instead of suggesting to pick a different color they added acetone to it and proceeded. The technicians ( both) had to repaint my left finger nail 3 times. Well the next day my manicure looked even worse. I waited to be back in the area because my manicure chipped on all my nails I paid $40 dollars not including tip. I told myself I would return and get my nails repainted. Well as I went in today and showed one of the ladies my chipped nails she asked me when I got them done I said Feb 13 she said my manicure did not last because it was not gel and it was regular nail polish. I replied Usually get regular nail polish and it last 3 weeks. So they all started talking amongst themselves in their language and laughing. Whether or not it was about the situation I find it very rude and unprofessional they seriously lack in customer service. I felt like walking out! I had to mentally convince myself to stay and wait to until the technician was finished. So once she finished polishing my nails she said your all done. ( no fan or area/time to let my nails dry were offered) I said thank you and walked out as I was walking out she said be careful (assuming she was talking about my wet nail polish).
