    Small chacuterie
    Amber H.

Decided that we were hungry after a movie and went down to Ontario street to have a look around. Looked on Yelp to see what was open and this place came up just as we were passing it, gave it a go by calling and reserving 2 seats. Service wasn't very fast to get drinks or to get a refill of bread or even our food in that matter. The place was pretty empty for a Friday night but it was nearing the end of the night so maybe that's why. Appetizers were okay the chèvre for 16 bucks was lacking flavour and salt but the presentation skills was beautiful. The small Charcuterie platter was okay no mouth watering cold cuts or amazing pate. The beet was the best part. The burger was Veal and beef very delicious and tender. Homemade fries very good with their own mayo as well. Old fashion 8.90, that's what I like to hear great prices for drinks.

There was a power outage for like 15 mins... so brunch by candlelight.

Terrific option for brunch in hochelaga maisonneuve . Next to a plaza. Friendly and competent service. Mostly plastic fare options including eggs Benedict Well executed overall.

Cool colored glass decor along the restaurant and expanded over the bar area.

This cozy restaurant served me the most delicious brunch starting with a perfect cup of black (Union) coffee - medium roast, sipping temperature. The host and waiter were very attentive and did a fantastic job explaining menu items and the secret to their unbeatable smoked salmon. Yes, unbeatable. Breakfast came with deeply roasted home fries and a sweet, fresh fruit cup... In itself, a delicious offering, but not to be a distraction from the main course. I ordered their fried egg with smoked salmon over a buckwheat blini that was nothing short of amazing and I mean "amazing" in the way that you pronounce the word with extra syllables and perhaps pepper in a few expletives to increase the magnitude. My palate was awash with myriad sensations - crunchy, creamy, smoky, rich, bright, all in each perfect bite (definition: a "perfect bite" contains a bit of each element from the dish in one forkful/mouthful/spoonful). It came under the recommendation of our server and was later explained as a town favorite for the seasonal smoked salmon which is so expertly prepared in-house. A short walk off the Pie-IX or Joliette Metro stops, this is a true gem for anyone who happens to enjoy food to any degree. Just wear tight fitting shoes in the event, as was my experience, your socks get blown off.

The foie gras as an entrée was good although pricey. The cocktails are excellent if you like classic cocktails. The hamburger is good for price, but you homemade hamburgers can be just as good. We take away a pony because it's too pricy for they serve and maybe a little much for the area.

For muslims: I recommend salmon fume benedict and cream egg with caramel onions. They warned us about food that may contain pork. Ask them. It was a nice gesture They have english menu, ask for it.

Delicious desserts and coffees! Order the creme brulee, Yummy!

The meal started with an appetizer of eye candy - attractive servers! Alex made helpful suggestions, and was attentive and pleasant. He steered me away from a heavy beer to a more tasty local beer - good suggestion! Menus come in French, but English is readily available if you just ask. I had the black pudding and my husband had the braised beef. Both prepared and presented to perfection! The chutney has plenty of delicious fresh garlic. We finished with liquors and coffees with our Creme brulee and passion fruit mousse. So tasty that we shared! Well worth the brief drive from our Mont-Royal neighbourhood. Really, more lovers of French food should try this Hochelaga treasure!

The food was ridiculous. I didn't have such a good food experience in a long time. The waiters are really nice, service is quick and again, the food was amazing. A bit expensive but it's definitely worth it. Even the orange juice was out of this world.

Second time here on consecutive weekends. Food is amazing and decently priced. Tried the egg croquette with spinach and eggs and caramelized onions. So so good. We also had the banana Nutella crepe with grilled almonds and maple syrup ice cream. Obviously the letter was phenomenal

Food and service was wonderful! It's off the beaten path for most tourists, but we were visiting the botanical gardens. Love the vibe.

Got to try some delicious food during my short weekend trip to Montreal Quebec…read more A friend organized a lunch for everyone before we all headed to the airport and funny enough this restaurant was in the hotel my friend and i stayed at. The restaurant was super quiet when we went as it was a Monday afternoon when most people were probably at work. The interior was quite elegant very clean and royalty looking. The service was 10/10. Waiter was very attentive and we could tell he paid attention to detail. He gave great food recommendations and definitely had knowledge of what's on the menu. Now as for how the food and prices were? Prices i'd say are pretty standard and reasonable. The squash soup was so yum and comforting. It had a puree texture to it. Good serving size. I would order it again! We obviously had to have some mimosas and yes we paired it with orange juice. The duck confit may have been a bit too much for me. Large portion and i couldn't even finish half of it. But it wasn't dry and the veggies had a nice crunch and the lentils were very filling and healthy. The flavour notes all went together but i'd definitely say the dish was more on the healthier side. The chicken supreme on the other hand .. although healthy it was still cheesy and buttery. Considering it was chicken breast it didn't even taste dry so i definitely appreciated that. The risotto paired with it was the star of the show! The restaurant takes resos online and they do have brunch on the weekends, happy hour menu looks promising. If i'm ever in town again and in the area i'd want to try their happy hour or chacuterie spread!

(Hotel restaurants, can be good/bad) We were definitely not dressed up which I was worried about but it wasn't an issue, we started with beef carpaccio and charcuterie, the pate was absolutely amazing as were all the cured meats. The beef carpaccio, was for me a little bland, I would have hit it with a touch of salt, but once you got a piece th at had balsamic drizzle it really opened it up and changed my mind. (I wish there was a little more of the balsamic. My husband had the Cornish hen, and I had the filet mignon, both were absolutely amazing, I even stole a little of his Bleu cheese for my steak. Steak was cooked perfectly, the sides were amazing. Our server was on point, his name was Pedro, I had asked him to send out a dessert privately and it was our 1 year anniversary, even though we were not dressed for the occasion as we were both exhausted from travel, We will probably be in for lunch tomorrow!

Even during peak summer season the restaurant was crowded and even had a line starting to form at peak lunch hour. There are not very many large tables so don't expect a large group to be sitting together. The menu is pretty straightforward with the typical miso, tonkotsu, and shoyu broths. But they even have a tomato broth with Hokato scallops for those more adventurous. We ordered the Tonkotsu Black $19 & the Tonkotsu+ $19. Is it pricey for Ramen? Yes. But was it worth it? Yes. The Tonkotsu Black had a rich broth with prominent garlic oil. The Tonkotsu+ was really the show stopper. With 3 different styles of meat: Smoked pork pastrami, meatballs & chashu. The truffle oil was fragrant and earthy. But the biggest surprise was shiitake mushrooms. They were marinated/seasoned to perfection, with a hint of sweetness. I would've been happy with just a giant bowl of shiitake mushrooms, and truffle oil. The broth was much lighter and delicate than the Tonkotsu Black, yet strong on the truffle. If you're not really a fan of truffle, do not get this. We were tempted to go back again, but we opted to try other restaurants around the downtown area. 10/10 Would go back again! The staff are very friendly and quick. Give it a try! They have multiple locations, especially if you're looking for something new, yet comforting.

But before even checking in, we had to walk through Bar George ~ and instantly knew we wanted to eat there. We were lucky enough to grab a last-minute reservation, and Julien took a good care of us throughout the evening. His recommendation of the Beef Wellington was spot on (it's already one of our favorite dishes), but this was hands down the best we've ever had. I ordered the lobster risotto, which was excellent with just the right amount of spice. My son had the 10 oz striploin steak with homemade fries (chips), and it was absolutely delicious. I also loved the Canadian touch of coarse salt on the steak, plus the option to choose between Béarnaise or peppercorn sauce. Julien also mentioned their pastry chef placed second in a NY competition, and the desserts absolutely lived up to that reputation. We tried the pineapple and coconut pavlova and the "lick me hazelnut" ~ both beautifully presented and incredibly delicious. We also ordered iced coffee and a latte, and noticed something interesting: this was the second place where we found Canadian coffee to be smooth and mild ~ such a nice change from the often bitter, over-roasted American coffee. Yes, dinner was a bit steep ($300+), but it was worth every penny. Between the rich history, stunning design, outstanding service, and unique cuisine, I would highly recommend Bar George. I would absolutely love to come back!!
