My parents and I have been coming to this place for YEARS to get our cars fixed. I'm very thankful that they were able to get my suspensions on my front side fixed in time, as well as any alignment that came with it. Tony, Anh, and Antonio really get the job done at Leader -- they are experts at what they do, so I do not blame them for taking too much of their time to do a diagnostic on the car. They usually give me an estimate as to when the car would be done, but usually, they finish the job way earlier than the estimated time forsure. The price value for their oil changes are probably one of the best in the Santa Clara Valley -- almost cheaper than if you go to competitors like Jiffy Lube or Triple AAA for an oil change. I've been coming to Leaders Auto Repair for about seven years for my oil changes, and they always get the job done in a timely manner. Even when they're busy, they still manage to complete a quick oil change--I'm usually in and out in about 20 minutes. Tony and Anh are very honest mechanics, which is hard to find nowadays. During the oil change, they also add air to my tires, check my brakes, and give recommendations on when you might need any repairs--whether it's during this visit or the next. They've never tried to upsell me on anything, and they're always completely honest. Plus, they have the best prices in the area. When I first came to the US, I bought an awful used 2012 VW Passat because I didn't have a clue about cars. When the car failed to pass the smog check Tony helped me figure out what the problem was. Over the years I've come to tony for a variety of problems including evaluating used cars, helping me get cheap tires, fixed my trunk, changed my engine oil tank. You get what you pay for. I've gone here a few times over the years due to close vicinity to my home. It would not be my first choice for newer, nicer and more expensive cars in my garage. Price is reasonable and cheaper than most shops. Parts they use are cheap generics. The owner is rude and I would rate him 1 star for customer service and his arrogant attitude. The guy appears pissed off all the time and loves cursing and cussing in Chinese constantly. In contrast, his workers and employees are friendly which I find to be quite ironic. Overall, the shop is relatively honest in pricing and in work. Hence the 3 star rating. Alright place to go to if you looking for a shop to do cheap minimal service on one of your secondary or older vehicles that you just want to keep alive and running. If you have a newer and nicer car, I would go elsewhere. read more

I've been coming here for over 10 years and they always provide excellent, trustworthy service. You can go to these guys and ask them to look for routine maintenance problems and they won't upsell you garbage for the sake of a quick buck. In fact last time I went in for an AC repair and an oil change and asked them if there wasn't anything else that needed repairs like old hoses or rubber seals and they said "nah everything else looks good". its been over 25 years and i still come here, starting when I was just a kid. this honest shop could use your business. they struggle a little bit with business due to communication and cultural differences but I trust these hardworking, ethical, OG chinese mechanics. as I grew up i have accumulated and maintained 15 cars at this shop including. as you can see I have picked up a few more toys along the way since 2013. I've wrenched on most of them myself but often let Raymond handle things when I'm lazy or in a time crunch. I took my Accord in for a routine oil change, which went okay..... The real problem began when the mechanic noticed that my tires on the front were a bit worn and recommended a tire rotation. I agreed with his observation and allowed him to rotate the tires. The guy proceeded to do the work and not more than 15 minutes later, he came up to me and told me that he broke a bolt on one of the wheels. He explained that it got stuck and he had to break it off. Not only did he damage my vehicle, but he proceeded to do so without letting me know about the issue. Had I had known there was a bolt stuck, i would've asked that the tires be untouched and I would've taken it to another specialist. That wasn't the worst of it. The mechanic said that I would be charged for the bolt's replacement because it wasn't the shop's fault that the bolt broke. I told him that he had no right to do what he did without getting my approval If I had known there was an issue I would have demanded that he stop working. I forgot to mention that he charged me $70 for the bolt! I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this mechanic to anyone. read more

Okay - so I had some noise going on with my car - and it's an obvious noise going on in the left front. Well, I took it in to this shop cuz of all the rave reviews on Yelp. So, after walking past the mechanics working on cars and into the office, I end up waiting there for a few minutes until I realize that no one is going to help me. That's fine - the shop is busy, I understand. So, I walk around looking like I need help until one of the mechanics asks me what's going on - I tell him the story, he "test drives" the car and comes back. Puts it on the rack right away (bonus points), but can't figure out what's going on. Spends some time looking at the car underneath and still no diagnosis. While I was there, some other guy drives up and asks the same mechanic about getting his headlight fixed. A couple of mechanics tell him to open the hood and they tell him after looking at the headlight, he needs a new fixture. He just wanted it fixed and they said they can't do anything about that. What's more important is that the white car he pulled up in, has fluid running down the front of it. I look at his engine and see that he did an oil change, but forgot to replace the cap - oil everywhere! None of the "mechanics" noticed this at all, until I pointed it out 10 minutes later! Are you kidding! So obvious! Well, they couldn't figure out what was going on w/ my car - told me to take it to WheelWorks in the same complex. So I took it there - after an hour of waiting for a $20 diagnosis they couldn't figure it out either! Eventually, a friend told me to take it somewhere else, and they figured it out in 5 minutes - lower ball joint needed to be replace. After that - no problem. read more

I had a leak somewhere in the power steering pump. They looked at it for 20 minutes and finalyl decided it was the "High pressure hose" He said he would call me the next day with a quote but it won't be more than $250 for parts & Labor. I call him the next day to check in and he said the part was $250 for new and $125 for reconditioned. He then said it's going to be an ADDITIONAL $175 for Labor. I looked up the Hose that I needed for my car and it ws $19.99 at Kragens! What the hell? He said I can bring in the part and he'll put in in for $175 labor. No thanks! Called South Valley Auto Body (1802 Angela St, San Jose, CA) and they quoted me $140 for the part AND labor. South Valley is VERY honest and Leafer Auto Repair was obvoisly trying to take advantage of a woman... Don't go to this Leader Auto Repair shop if you need anything more than a oil change :( read more

um, I wanted this place to make me happy.... and it didn't. I needed new brake pads on my front tires and the rotors (sp?) resurfaced ASAP. 1 star: It is cheap - $160 1 star: No appointment needed and open on Saturdays 1 star: my car is in one piece still It took them 4.5 hours to get this done!! They told me it should be done by 3pm, if not earlier - so at 430pm I was waiting for them. I couldn't understand what he said or what he did! Ugh. read more

My wife convinced me to use this auto repair shop. At first I thought that was because they are Chinese, and she wanted to send our vehicles to a Chinese mechanic, as her first language is Mandarin. Over time I have come to realize that they treat you fair at Leaders. It's still painful when there is a mechanical problem with a car, but they do not overcharge, or push to fix things that do not need to be fixed. In fact, I recently went to see them about an issue, and Antonio put my car on a scanner thing & moved the coils around -- making the issue go away. He did not charge for that (that is kinda scary, as he said that they would charge me when they fixed the problem -- they did not figure out for sure what was wrong, so I may be in to see them again soon). If you do not speak Chinese, and you are not patient or talk English quickly then you might not want to use these guys, as they mostly speak Chinese. If you just want an honest mechanic, and you do not care about the language issue, then I highly recommend you take you care to Leader's. I'd give them 5 stars, but for the language issue. read more

I had heard about Leader Auto Repair from several friends and colleagues over the course of several years before I ended up taking my car there for the first time. I must say that, at first, Tony's straight-up delivery was a little disconcerting. I wasn't sure if he really knew what I was looking for. But just like Russ said below, Tony is a very straight up guy and he'll give you choices to help you save money. For the folks that like to customize their own cars but don't necessarily have the time and place to install parts, Leader will install parts and only charge labor which, by the way, is very reasonable. They work on all makes and models and I was pleasantly surprised that they were knowledgable about BMW's. I consider BMW's a special case because they're high maintenance cars. There are European specialists out there, but are still expensive for the routine oil change or minor tune-ups. They did a full tune-up (equivalent to Inspection 2), a timing belt change and a valve adjustment for me and I was pleasantly surprised at the price for all of the work. Very reasonable for work on a European car! I've run two BMWs, a VW, a Toyota, a Nissan, a Lexus and even my old 1970 Datsun pick-up by them for routine maintenance (and more) and have been happy with their work. Reasonable rates, quick service, and honest guys...you couldn't ask for much more. read more

It was a pretty rough person (no business name or greeting on picking up), when I asked how much it will be for the service, I was told and I quote including grammar "I am very busy, you come here and tell me items and I will tell you price. I need to repair car" Needless to say, I passed on the offer as I would have wanted to know the above and more including how long it will take and so on. Some people tolerate obnoxious competent people and some do not, each on to their own. I did find another good mechanic. I just moved to the area a few months ago and needed to find a new mechanic. After reading tons of reviews on Yelp, I decided to take my 02 Camry to these guys for it's 90k service. I know next to nothing about cars (hence owning a low maintenance Camry instead of something more pimpin') so I'm pretty much at the mercy of the mechanic, whenever my car is in the shop. They quoted me one price over the phone but once I got there, they found that my transmission fluid was dirty so they charged me an extra 100 bucks for that. Then a few hours later, they called me at work and said my timing belt also needed to be replaced, so they added on another 100 bucks. - this time assuring me that they were giving me an excellent deal... Paying 200 bucks more than I expected is annoying, but at least I feel somewhat comfortable with these guys. They seem like an honest bunch. read more

Asked for a simple fuse and the guy asked me for 5dollars! I was like, 'that's so expensive' and the guy simply said 'no' without even looking at me and simply walked away. If you think this guy has any genuine care for you as a person he's probably after your money. Fuses are less than 5 cents each and that's if you dont buy in bulk! They're so cheap that the next shop gave it to me for free and refused my dollar! I would also recommend people to go trough the other reviews. Lots of horror stories. read more

I use to live around the corner for 10 years and our family had 3 cars, so I visit them almost monthly (oil change, car maintenance, etc) I loved the place, I wish I had the same kind of shop near my new place (I live in S SJ now, it's too far for me now). The price is reasonable, it helps that they know my cars since I been there so many times. So they really take cares my car. - 1 star because some of the people are right, their communication skill isn't that great. I speak Chinese, so I don't have any problem with them. But if you are English speaker, there might be some communication issue. Every time when my friend (who doesn't speak Chinese) need major maintenance on his car, I take it in for him. read more

I HIGHLY recommend this Auto Repair place. I try to get the oil changed, preventative maintenance if needed. Usually I have had this done in other states at the dealership because it tends to be less expensive in Washington. I went to the dealer in Fremont to have some recall work done and they let me know that my car was in need of a timing belt (date was at the expiration point) and spark plugs. Cost? $3600 I would have been less shocked if the dealership had slapped me in the face. I thought I would call around and see if this was correct. Several larger chain places quoted me almost the same price. I did a little investigation and found that the national average (high end) for these 2 things was around $700. My husbands co-worker suggested Leader Auto Repair. We called and were quoted a price of $590 and given an appointment. While he was working on the car he suggested while the timing belt was off that we replace the water pump and thermostat. He said that this was not necessary but....while he had it taken apart and considering the year of the car it was our choice and would save us the labor down the road if we needed these replaced. I love my car so we decided to go ahead and do that and he gave us a price of $1190 for the entire job. I was already thrilled that it wasn't $3600. He had the car 24 hours and did all the work. When we got there the price was exactly what we were quoted. They are super nice and friendly. I felt that they were honest and didn't try to rip me off like the dealership. Its hard to find a mechanic that is honest and won't charge you a fortune to fix your car here in Silicon Valley. If you want to be treated fairly I suggest you go here. And if you don't know anything about cars or are afraid because you are a woman they will take advantage of you, THEY WON'T. I am going to tell everyone that needs repair work to come here. read more

MINUS MINUS MINUS STARS!! this place totally ripped me off! i dealt with antonio: one weekend, i brought my 1999 Benz C280 in requesting that they replace the spark plugs and wiring and my air filter - - - i was extremely specific in that i wanted BOTH wiring and plugs to be replaced.........i repeated myself like 3 times in case there was a communication barrier (his english was heavily accented) i brought it in around 1 pm and they said they'd call me when they were done......... i walked around the plaza across the street for a while, got a pedicure at the nearby nail salon... an hour passes... i have lunch and lions supermarket....2 hours pass.... i'm waiting and waiting.... finally at around 5pm I start walking back to the auto place and wait around some more -- FINALLY at around 530-6ish theyr'e done with my car --- antonio tells me total is about 350 --- i thought to myself that's really cheap because other places charge around 600....so i said, "for plugs and wiring?" he says, for plugs and the air filter" i thought, WTF i was extermeely specific that i wanted both plugs and wiring to be replaced ----- so apparently the place where he buys parts from is closed on weekends so if i wanted wiring replaced, I'd have to come in during the week.... WELL YOU SHOULD HAVE TOLD ME THAT EARLIER SO I WOULDN'T WASTE MY FREAKING SATURDAY! then he had the nerve to tell me to call him on monday to get a quote for wiring NO THANK YOU, i don't want to waste another day with your bullshit. 120 for (12 spark plugs at 10 dollars each) + 25 (air filter) + 250 FOR LABOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have used this shop for almost 20 years and have been very pleased with them. I sent my Lexus and Toyota for regular maintenance. Their charges are much lower than what dealer asks for. But, lower cost is not my primary concern. They are the only honest mechanics shop I know of, never asking me to spend more money than necessary. There have been times when they found something wrong and told me that it was ok not to repair or replace for another xxx miles. Most recently, the lower control arm bushing of my Lexus SC400 worn out. They told me that it was expensive to fix it, but it was not absolutely needed if I do not drive far. I had driven 4 more years before I finally decided to fix it. If you need simple stuff such as oil change, you can get it done in 20 minutes. No wait time! And they will check brakes, all fluid levels for you for free. But, for any services that will take longer than 1 hour, they will ask you to drop off the car and get a ride because it is hard to estimate the completion time. If you can always interrupt other people for shorter services, it is reasonable for them to take longer time for other services that require more than 20 minutes of work. Because my Lexus and Toyota have been so good, I have not spent too much money on them until last week when my Corolla stalled while I was driving on freeway. (It is funny when the opposite of unintentional acceleration broke to headline news.) I thought I finally would get a chance to pay my share for their service after so many years of bargain services. After 40 minutes of diagnostics, Reymond told me that the computer module was faulty and it is covered under my dearler's warrenty. I wanted to pay him for the diagnostics time and effort and he refused. I think it is outrageous of some reviewers' to complaint about the owners' accent. Yes, they have accent. And, who does not. Their English is good. and more than enough for them to conduct their business. If you are looking for "perfect" English, you'd better be ready to pay double the price at a dealership. read more

Came here to get an estimate on some work with my driver side front tie rod ends. Prices were reasonable, but we decided not to use them now or in the future. I got the estimate on a Thursday and on Monday while driving on the highway my driver side front tire and entire wheel assembly, came off. Unfortunately, there was no way to prove that Leader was negligent, but it is the only explanation as to why this occurred since they had just looked at that same area. We can only assume that they did not properly tighten the lugnuts after looking at it. Luckily, our insurance policy covered the $4500 of resulting damage... read more

One word: Dishonest. I've been there twice. First time, the owner changed the front pads for me, and said the back pads still have 50% left. The 2nd time (3000 miles later), I went in for an oil change. The mechanic said I need to change the back pads immediately, otherwise my car will be in trouble. I remembered what the owner told me the first time, and declined. 2 years and 20000+ miles later, my back pads are still good. I can't imagine the mechanic can blatantly lie without the owner's consent. So conclusion: Never again. read more

Leader is legit. Got to speak to Antonio to get the best service. He's straight with you. He'll tell you what you need and more importantly, what you don't. I don't know anything about cars, and that's why having an honest mechanic is vital. I went in with some BAD sounding brakes and he could've told me my whole brake system needed to be redone (and I'd believe him) but he told me the brakes weren't totally smooth, so there was some unnecessary grinding which caused the noise. However, this doesn't cause any driving issues and is not a cause for concern. With that evaluation, I thanked him for the free examination and took off. But I forgot the tip! I should've given him a $20 for being so honest with me, and for a free, thorough examination. I still feel guilty about that, but now I know better. If even the slightest car issue comes up, my first, last, and only trip will be to Leader Auto Repair. read more

I read many reviews about Leader Auto. Antonio is honest and gets the job done. His shop is always busy so if you need to get your car fixed you may need to leave your car with him a bit more than another place but it is worth it. I needed to have my brakes fixed. I brought my car in at 1:30PM. I had my car back at 5PM the same day. I took my laptop to a coffee shop down the street (has WIFI signal) and did some work. I had my brakes done before and it cost me in the mid $600's. Antonio changed my front and back brakes (not rotars) for a bit over $400. Great price. Will return to have him change my oil and any other work. read more

I took my car back to Leader for 100k service and belt replacements. They called with a list of needed repairs and quoted me $700. Fine. The problem is I received my car back and it squeals like a stuck pig when cold. It squeals upon start-up; it squeals when I turn on the heater and the engine's not quite warm enough; it squeals when I turn right. It is out-of-this world annoying/embarrassing. People of the street turn their heads to see what that God awful noise is. I took it back but by the time I got there the engine had warmed to the point where it was not cold enough to squeal. They took it for a test drive anyway and two hours later, the driver returned with a plastic bag (he went and ran an errand) but no solution. I'll attempt to take it again and have them fix it but so far, I'm really bummed on what I got for my $700. read more

love this place. I'm a white girl that doesn't speak Chinese and i have no communication issues with Antonio. he's a business man that likes taking care of his customers. I've never rushed him and never bargained and I think that's what made the difference. i would even give him 2 days for an oil change if he needs it. One star because I went through get my oil changed today and usually it's 18 for my car because they have to remove 4 extra bolt vs 15 for not having to. But today they decided they can raise the price to 25 lying to me saying it's been that way since the beginning of the year. I've been there twice in the last few months and I bring my own oil and its $18 but today he says $25 after its changed. The reason I give this place one star is because of the attitude the manager had. He called me a liar, he lied to me and he told me "customers are expendable" when I told him I wouldn't be coming back. What a crook. Customers are the only reason you exist. read more
