So Friday night finish work at 5 and start walking to my car in below freezing weather. Only to find that my car is.... gone. Called the the parking company and find out that because of two unpaid tickets that the car had had, they towed it.
It sucked, but I really could only be pissed at myself... I asked where they towed it, and found the Teutonia Ave lot for Leader towing. It was after business hours so I had to find a ride and go the next day.
On the way there I was just hoping the fee wouldn't be huge, but either way I was stuck paying it since I was at fault here.
Since EVERYTHING but a tiny door says "employees only, do not enter", I go in the little service entrance. I get inside a little semi-door-vestibule thing and see a group of ten guys in snow suits eating and drinking. No one seems to notice I'm there so I say "I'm here to pick up a car". One guy yells from the back "What is it?". I tell him the car and he asks where it was. I tell him.
"Oh, Interstate parking? No, only CJ can do the billing for that." he then proceeds to sit and eat his sandwich. I'm still standing in the one foot by one foot caged in area, every 2 minutes a large man in a snow suit bumps into you to go in or out the door. So it's uncomfortable, its cold, this sucks a lot.
It's been 25 minutes... still no CJ.
30 minutes later the guy on crutches starts yelling at the original guy that spoke to me about a dog and "she". He sits down and without looking at me says "title, proof of insurance, and license!"
"Huh?" I respond. Not really sure if he's talking to me... if i'm in the twilight zone... or if I'm possible on camera... seriously, things seem surreal at this point.
He looks up and then proceeds to ask me what car, where it was, and everything, and then asks for my title, insurance card, license, and keys.
I tell him the title is either in the car or at home, hand him my insurance card, license, and keys. He then proceeds to talk to another guy for 15 minutes... when I ask him how much it will be (because they only accept cash...), he ignores me.
It's Saturday, they're open from 9am-12pm. I got there at 9:30, it is now 11 and I'm still waiting. So I loudly ask "CAN YOU PLEASE GIVE ME BACK MY KEYS AND CARDS? IT IS CLEAR YOU AREN'T GOING TO HELP ME."
He looks up, then looks over at the door, then looks back down at his phone. Then the chunky idiot that "couldn't do the billing" when I walked in starts screaming at me!
"YOU DON'T YELL AT HIM! YOU CALM DOWN RIGHT NOW! YOU DON'T YELL OR I'LL CALL THE POLICE!", to which I respond, "You're yelling at me! You're only open 3 hours today and i've been here over half that time! Give me back my house keys and give me back my driver's licence!" At this point, the police would be a welcome addition.
FINALLY the guy comes back with the title that was in my glove box. They had rifled through my car looking for it when I told them it might be in there. They charged me over $500 dollars to get my car back for two $50 dollar tickets. ($50 being the maximum charge, not the initial amount)
I just gave them the money and ran out of there as quickly as possible once I finally was able to grab back my license and keys.
