I don't think you understand how much I LOVE finding new-to-me bookstores. I was in the area for a market and I wondered around the area. My subconscious knew and it led me to this place. It's not a terribly large bookstore but it has all of the basic categories you'd expect and I'd say they're pretty well-stocked in those categories. Very cute and quaint bookshop in the middle of Hudson's shopping district. We love stopping by every time we are in the area, it's located next to the Open Door cafe where you can take your book you just bought to read! Or vice versa, take your coffee you just bought and browse books lol. It's inside on old house that's nice and cozy. It can be a bit crowded in holiday seasons due to lack of space. I do want to mention that this book shop and the whole downtown reminds me of Gilmore Girls in the winter time! read more

The Learned Owl is my longtime favorite bookstore in Northeast Ohio. It's the charming, creaky-floored bookstore where they decorate seasonally and the staff still give personalized recommendations on little rack cards across neat, jam-packed shelves. I subscribe to their newsletter and learned they weren't re-opening for business as usual during COVID, which is fine with me as I'm not comfortable fully. They are offering a curbside pick-up service to retrieve orders from their alternative door with contactless pick-up. My usual preference is to visit here and browse with typically nothing in mind, but this time I tried the online ordering. The search box on their website is super easy and I can always count on The Learned Owl to have poetry books and other more off-the-beaten-path picks I'm interested in. I appreciated the timely communications via email when my order was placed and later when it was ready for pick-up. This is a great bookstore to patronize during COVID-19. I'm always a fan of a quirky local bookstore and I've received many gifts from this shop over the years, thanks to my aunt who lives nearby. I'm really glad that I was able to visit on my recent trip. The store is deceptive on the outside since it looks petite, but it's secretly 3 full floors of bibliogoodness. The selection was good and well thought out. There were lots of local books and a book signing was just finishing when I was there. The staff was really helpful but not pushy. And if you shop there regularly, you can earn loyalty points from the store. Since I was just visiting, I made sure to put my purchases to my aunt's account. Although small and compact, this place is mighty. Great selection of books and various items, wonderful service and charming atmosphere. The kind of place that reminds you how beautiful and important it is to shop local. Ordering books is quick & easy, even around the busy holidays (although I love to see that they're busy- it means more business!). In the heart of Hudson, this bookstore fits in perfectly with the rest of the square. The maze like setup made me feel a bit like Alice falling down the rabbit hole. So, in a word, magical! There is a wide variety of books available as well as a little gift section full of fun things to tempt you. I appreciated the size of the travel section, up the stairs and around the bend, as well as the fact I had to travel through most of the store to get to it. I felt like I struck gold! While a bit pricier than my usual haunts, this isn't a used book store so that does play into it. I'm happy to pay a few extra dollars to support a locally owned book store that adds so much value to the community. read more

Ok, I'm biased. I work here. But it is a wonderful place! Comfy & crowded with books, a veritable warren of good stuff to read. There's an 2nd floor and a basement level too (something I had not figured out until I became an employee, so I pass it along to you now -- and yes, you are allowed to go both upstairs & down). Folks here (staff & patrons alike) really care about books and will tell you just what they think about them. Looking for a last-minute gift for Uncle Fred who likes fly fishing & sci-fi? The Learnéd Owl is a great little local business, the service is friendly & inviting and the atmosphere has a quaint homey feel. The selection of books is great, but since their store is so small they are slightly limited. Even still, I love to go here and scan through books for hours! My one suggestion is that they have more places to sit upstairs and in the children's section. read more

Quaint. No public restroom--at least that's what she told a little African American girl whom she overheard telling her mother that she needed to use the restroom. No one asked the store personnel if the girl could use the restroom, but she offered the restroom in the restaurant next door. read more
