Shoot, once again I forgot to take a picture! There were three "blue plate specials" available, fried chicken, turkey and dressing and ham with two sides, carrots&peas, and squash. We got the turkey. For the price(15.99), the serving of turkey wasn't very generous, maybe a scant half-cup of turkey. One the plus side, they did have dark meat, and it has some cranberry dressing. The corn meal dressing was very generous, and moist. It had a generous serving of carrots&peas, not so generous with the squash. We did get a slice of Bumbleberry pie, and peach pie. I was really looking forward to the Bumbleberry pie, as it was supposed to have raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, and blackberries. I hope that's correct. I was picturing a slice of thick pie just brimming over with fat, juicy berries. Instead I got a thin, flat piece of pie with the bottom 3/4 of the pie filled with a pinkish-red opaque jelly of sorts, and a sparse, then layer of mashed berries on top, just plunder the crust. The body of the pie was just under an inch thick, maybe 3/4" thick. It was an EXTREME disappointment, considering how the town is supposed to be the ""Pie Capital of Louisiana". If I were you, don't bother getting the Bumbleberry pie, but do get the peach; it was outstanding! I wish I had the recipe! The flavor of the peaches came through, it was sweet and delicious, without being heavily sweetened with spices, overwhelming the peaches. Yummy! I'm only rating it a "three", as the service was lacking. read more

This was a welcome respite from food along the interstate and just a short detour at that. Roomy and comfortable. Meat and vegetable choices for lunch. Not many places offer ham and I always loved Sunday dinner ham so that was my choice for lunch. As so many say, they are known for their pies and the wife enjoyed her pecan pie slice. I was a little too full for pie so I got a little dish of ice cream that hit the spot. Service was friendly and efficient. I would definitely stop here again for lunch if we were in the vicinity at lunch time. read more

It's always a treat swinging by Lea's. I need the recipe bad real. I've tried recreating their delicate coconut cream pie but to no avail. The lunch specials and sammies are okay, (my guy likes the sandwiches). But it is located north of I-10, so I wouldn't blame them for having something else with a lil' more kick. (TBH there's nothing around to eat except Lea's, even Alec is sparse.) The pie & coffee, service is good, watching the cute old couples and townsfolk chatter and visit makes it a worthwhile stop. read more

We all ordered the red beans and rice, and though the waitress told us they used "sweet beans" not spicy, we weren't prepared for the load of sugar evident in the dish. Sadly disappointed. Lea's Lunchroom is a historic restaurant in LeCompte that is like an experience from yesteryear. They are known for their pies, and they are one of the main reasons LeCompte is considered the Pie Capitol of Louisiana. One can drop in and have a slice of pie, or one can get a whole pie to go. Both are excellent choices! Slices of pie are also available with ice cream, which makes them extra special. If pie was all there was to Lea's, it would be amazing. However, they are called a lunchroom because of the other options available. They have daily plate lunch selections which are excellent examples of home-style southern cooking. They are also known for their ham, which can be had in the form of a ham sandwich, for which they are also well known. This is an excellent choice for lunch as well! The service is always great, and there are always a mix of local residents and visiting travelers in the dining area. They have a selection of cookbooks and gifts that make excellent souvenirs for the traveling public. They are located on US Highway 71, only a short distance from the LeCompte Exit on Interstate Highway 49, so it makes it easy to stop in while traveling. Anytime I'm traveling near Lecompte I make plans to be around Lea's during noon time. The food and their pies are that good. Lemon meringue is my favorite because I know they only use fresh squeezed lemons. I've been going to Lea's since my childhood days (my dad was a baseball scout and would take his 2 boys on some of his trips). I'm 79 now and still plan my trips around Lecompte the same way. Have been wanting to stop here for forever and finally had time. Felt very far off the I-49 exit- complete ghost town. Then we walk in and immediately told very gruffly that we can't sit down- only to go. Then the bathroom was a humid old pool smell with possibly no a/c? For those who are not southern souls born and raised there are still many a place that can speak to the soul of anyone. The kind of place where time stands still as neither the interior nor exterior of an establishment has changed over the decades. The type of restaurant where they still write the daily specials up on a board. Welcome to such a place as Lea's. This is a diner first and foremost with a simplified menu. I only sampled the lunch and of course they are well known for their legendary pies. For a person who is used to pies from franchised chains like Coco's or Marie Calendars this was certain to be a treat. Being unfamiliar with the area I was guided by one of my former coworkers as this was a local haunt you would not normally come across being so far fr the freeway or highway. The service is friendly and polite. The order was a ham sandwich and a lemon meringue pie. How does a ham sandwich and a pie go together? I don't know how but they certainly do. The ham sandwich is encased a soft bread while the sliced meat could come from a thanksgiving dinner as it's tender and juicy. The pie had the most meringue topping ever seen as it was at least a few inches deep but the lemon was a nice citrus contrast to the saltiness and savory of the sandwich. The only downside is that perhaps the portions are on the smaller side and to reach this location will take some effort but makes for a great stop along the way to see the Tigers play and take a little slice of history back with you to share with loved ones. read more

I was told I had to order one of the other 3 sides or pay full price for half a meal. Needless to say, we will not be back. The ham was chopped into small pieces. Would have preferred larger slices. Since no sides come with the sandwich we had to purchase bags of chips at the front of the store. Can they not be offered as a combo with the sandwich? The biggest negative was our server. She had better things that do than wait on our table. For a dude who thinks meringue is garbage, I sure did like this place. You know how a lot of people search Yelp for hidden gems when they visit a new place? I am guilty of that as well, but my visit to Lea's was a little more serendipitous. I was travelling through the area and exited to find a bathroom. I exited at the next exited, and saw a sign that said Lea's Lunchroom and that sounded kind of unique to me. I headed that way, and boom, meringue heaven. Lea's is locally famous as a lunch counter and is known for their pies and ham sandwiches. Their pies have about ten feet of meringue (that's an exaggeration). More on the ham sandwiches later. Lea's has clean bathrooms and very friendly staff. It would be a good place to stop if you need a break from work or the road. They also sell local cookbooks and jarred food products if you need gifts for folks. So since you know how I feel about meringue, surely I tried a famous ham sandwich, right? I did. And guess what? It was good. But it is still just a ham sandwich. I don't know what sort of fanciness you could do to a ham sandwich to make it blow me away, but their version was solid. If you love old fashioned ham sandwiches, you would probably be super duper happy. Lea's is my kind of place despite my distrust of anyone who likes meringue. What a cool little find; down home hospitality and service in the coolest little place. Little, but plenty of seating area and they serve a delicious home style meal that really fills you up and makes you feel like you are sitting in Grandma's kitchen. If I remember right, the menu changes based on what they're serving, but everything that came to our table was delicious and the service was spot-on. I highly recommend stopping in to not only enjoy the food and hospitality, but to check out some of the pies (we got one of each) as they are really something special. Had the opportunity to stop by and purchased a whole lemon pie, a whole apple pie, a slice of coconut pie and a slice of pecan pie. Nice pies. Good, but really just nice pies. I think the years of passing by inflated my expectations. However, the lemon pie had a surprise. I wasn't familiar with a lemon filling full of rind. Not zest. First time at Lea's and definitely enjoyed the ambiance of feeling like I was in a 50s or 60s diner. We walked in at 3:20 pm which was only 40 minutes before closing and had none of the issues as reported by other reviewers. In fact, I was impressed with the customer service and never felt rushed to get out because of closing time. I had a ham and cheese sandwich which I felt was a bit high for $8.50 but then again they are out in the middle of nowhere and probably don't have near the volume of customers they had before I-49 was built. So for that, I understand. Plus, the sandwich was pretty good. I also finished off with a slice of pecan pie. Not the best pie I ever had but certainly nothing to complain about. There are no menus, in fact, you have to look at the board at the back of the building to see what is on the menu. Fantastic pies. Party tried chocolate lemon and coconut meringue and all were great. The food items are a bit shakey. Chili was OK. Stuff cabbage was good. Chicken tenders were soggy and tasteless. The side dish of macaroni and cheese was literally Kraft brand and awful. The waitress never asked if everything was OK and never refilled our drinks. The mature male at the register never ask how our food or visit was. I guess they should just make pies and deliver to homes because they have no hospitality. Go for the pie!!! Stopped off at Lea's for lunch and a slice of heaven. Ham sandwiches are pretty average but the pies are SO DELICIOUS. Between me and my friends, we sampled the lemon meringue, chocolate meringue and blackberry pies. The meringue was sky high, light and fluffy and the fillings delicious. The blackberry pie was tart but sweet with a flaky crust...it was so yummy I got one to go. The service staff were friendly and attentive.
