I stopped by here because of a recommendation from a coworker, as I was in town for business. I would say the food is average at best and the service was definitely forgettable. I'm puzzled as to what all the rave is about this restaurant. The gal that works at checkout is one bitter person and shouldn't be interacting with customers because she was downright awful. Fried catfish, cornbread and greens for lunch! I was in town visiting and needed a restaurant that would please multiple generations. I really wanted a meat and 3 option and the menu looked promising. They have daily lunch specials and I would eat here each day of the week, the choices are so good and judging by the crowded dining room, everyone knows it. On this day, I had the catfish and shrimp combo with collard greens and potato salad. The catfish and shrimp were cornmeal dredged, crispy and well seasoned. The greens were seasoned and they had my pepper sauce as well as hot sauce at the table so you know this place is the real deal. Top rating for their treatment of an old veteran eating with me. He couldn't read the menu and the serving team was very patient, gave him a veteran's discount and extra slice of cake for dessert. We both got the same main but he chose stewed okra and seafood jambalaya for his sides. I highly recommend the okra. I would've ordered an order just for me once I tasted it but they had vanilla cake with chocolate icing for dessert and I couldn't have it all. Brocatos is a solid lunch spot in Alexandria. I still have not figured out why Alexandria is called Ellick despite asking numerous residents. But I have figured out that locals like Brocatos and I understand why. This seems to be the go-to spot after certain work meetings. I cannot comment on breakfast as we are always here during lunch. For lunch, there is a plate lunch special where you serve yourself or you can order from the menu. I almost always get the grilled shrimp salad. While good, everyone else's order looks better than mine. I would either do the plate lunch or get a burger unless you want a salad. If you do, don't expect to be blown away but it is a decent lunch. Service is very friendly and prices are reasonable. The only complaint would be the parking lot after heavy rain. Do not drive a low car in there or you will be floating. Come early as it gets packed around peak lunch time. read more

This mom and pop restaurant is easy to miss driving down 28 west. It's nothing special on the outside but it always seems to have a packed parking lot. After stopping by I get it! So good! You walk in and there is a counter with a cash register right in front of the kitchen. You can see though the entire kitchen. The food was amazing, very fresh and homestyle cooking. The biscuits were a work of art. This is definitely a place people go to catch up with friends and just hang out. If you get the chance check it out, you won't regret it.. it just has a home feeling. read more

The food is served assembly line style (no table service). The staff extend southern hospitality. There are numerous options, and everything is absolutely delicious. The nice cashier told me that for what I wanted I had to line up, so I got a bowl of delicious jambalaya, and for sides, fries, and rice and gravy. A lot of carbs I know, but I didn't care for okra, potato salad, or the steamed greens (that's just me). The jambalaya was excellent, the fries weren't hot enough in my opinion, and the rice and gravy was just that. I'll probably go and try other stuff. Disappointed today. I ordered the Debris eggs; but when they came they looked VERY well done, it was luke warm at best, and "Eric's beard" found a place in the eggs. I am assuming Eric was one of the kitchen staff. Needless to say, I lost my appetite. The cashier, to her credit, immediately refunded without me having to suggest it and was pleasant throughout. While I am at it...the coffee could be stronger, and if you are going to bring the plates, bring the utensils with them instead of showing me where they are. Tried this place for the first time today. Got the catfish plate with potato salad and coleslaw with a drink. Tasted pretty good, and they throw in a couple hush puppies and a small bit of cake. So why only 3 stars? Well the total came to $12.62, but I didn't really feel like it was enough food for that price. I think they should either lower the price a bit, or serve up a larger portion size. The food was pretty good though, so I would come back if like the coworkers wanted to go or something, but I just don't feel it's as good a deal as say, Souther Creations where you can get larger portions for about the same price. read more

They have the best home cooking in the area. The menu rotates daily for the meat and veggies which I highly suggest for lunch. If you want breakfast they have that too, all at reasonable prices. I think they have a different special every day, we went there for the chicken fried steak and it was unreal. One of the best meals I've had and it was only 7 bucks. I love the breakfast. I ordered the ham, eggs, grits and toast. The ham was the real deal. Everything was on point. The plate lunches are great too. When it comes to seafood items like the catfish and shrimp things get a bit over priced. They just don't give you enough for what you pay. The fish portions are small. I've eaten the spaghetti plate, the shrimp creole, the fish dinner, and red beans and sausage all of which were well above average. The side items get alot of love from the cooks and will leave you satisfied.
