I always stop here when in NYC on business to get a shoe shine. They completely shine the shoes for only $8! This is a process that takes about 15-20 minutes, so totally worth the cost. They make worn leather shoes look new again. I always give a $20 bill and tell them to keep the change because it's like getting a new pair of shoes each time. This last time I went, I was wearing my favorite pair of Curatore shoes. These are not the most expensive shoes I own ... but they are the most comfortable. So, because of the cheaper leather, they show wear quicker. The toe area is scuffed and they even had some icky white salt stains from walking through slushy puddles. After 15 minutes, they looked brand new. This isn't just a quick shine ... they use 3-4 different products and have 5-10 steps during the shine which ends with a buffing. You sit in a comfy leather chair and they go to work. I use the shine service at 5 star hotels a lot and the hotels can't even come close to the job they do here. The bonus is you get to walk through the bottom level of The Plaza's ritzy food court to get there. The team here does a great job with the shine but while I was there someone brought in a pair of John Lobb shoes for them to work on. If someone would trust their John Lobb shoes to this place, I have to think they know what they are doing. read more

My only regret is not taking before pictures of my shoes. I took a pair of heels in for a full haul makeover. Meaning, nicks in heels, leather wrinkled & scratched, skin missing at the front of both shoes. I also had dowel lifts replaced, sole guards & leather half soles affixed. Then I had them go to town by cleaning, water & stain repellant, & deodorize the interior. If that's not enough I also broke my right heel off, so they had to reinforce, plus fix the scratches. The entire time I kept asking Lenin as I handed my Max Mara heels over, "how are they going to look?" "Are they going to look like new?" "Am I going to be happy?" "Are you sure I'm going to be happy?" His response was, "we'll do our best." I'm like, I'm not feeling happy with that response. I need you to tell me it's going to be perfect. He still responded, "we will try and do our best. We always do our best." Safe to say, I handed my shoes over. It was less than two weeks & I received a call from Lenin, then an email informing me my shoes were ready for pickup. When I arrived - I jumped for joy! They looked brand new! Whoop Whoop!!!! The Leather Spa salvaged my mustard yellow Jimmy Choo strappy sandals, and I will forever be grateful! Best part, this location is open on Sundays! On vacation, sun screen had leaked out in my suitcase and horribly damaged my leather sandals. I was terrified and almost certain I'd have to toss them, based on how bad the damage was. The yellow leather became green and brown, and the shoes were unwearable. I figured I'd give the Leather Spa a shot, since I had been to their other locations to get the red soles on my Louboutins reinforced. I should have taken a before picture, because the after is great. You'd never know! A few minor modifications were made to the shoe in order to have rubber soles added. The shoe does look a little different than how it looked when I bought it, but not necessarily in a negative way. Few mentions: it took a couple of weeks and a couple of tries in order to remove the stains. When I was initially notified that the shoes were ready, the shoes presented to me were definitely an improvement versus the state I had brought them in... but I am a perfectionist and I had a feeling there was still room for improvement. They took the shoes back and worked their magic. I was a little worried when picking them up today, that nothing more could be done. I was very pleasantly surprised to see the shoes were fully restored! Cost was about $96 which I know sounds steep, but sure beats having to buy a new pair of Choos for $600! read more

Had a pair of worn Gucci loafers (that have saved my life numerous times) so i decided to bring them in and save their life. I had some hesitations bringing them in to this location as a lot of the reviews are less than stellar, but i took a chance on this place and i'm glad i did! I asked for a cleaning, to get new soles, and to fix the scuffed leather toe. I paid around $160 which is kinda steep, and could have gotten a new pair of non-designer shoes but, i love these loafers and wanted them repaired as they are definitely my most-worn pair of shoes. I don't remember the name of the guy who helped me out but the service here is top-notch and they can offer their professional opinion on how to best fix your shoes (i honestly had no idea where to start with my loafers as i thought they might not be fixable). Leather Spa saved my loafers and made them look good as new! Obviously the leather close to the buckle has signs of wear, but i'm amazed with the way they repaired my shoes. They matched the color, replaced missing pieces, and made the bag that everyone told me to move on from, NEW AGAIN! I LOVE my bag and I am now an ADDICT of LEATHER SPA. I have used the Leather Spa numerous times purely out of convenience as my office is across the street from the Plaza. They are expensive and only do an average job. I once brought in a pair of boots for stretching. $50+ later and there was no difference in the returned boots. I have brought in many pairs of shoes for sole guards. This is a pretty straight forward job and the returned shoes were fine. The biggest issue is their customer service. I brought in a pair of shoes 13 days ago for sole guards. I was told it would take 5 days. After a week I called to check on the status and was told they should come in later that day or in the morning. No call from the Leather Spa so I called back 3 days later. Still no shoes and was told once again that they should be coming in that evening. The next day still no call so I called again and still no shoes. I have asked if there is an issue and was told no issue...?! This place needs to better manage customer expectations and provide timely service. For the prices they charge one would think they could do both. read more

After having a slight anxiety attack after getting my newly purchased Louboutin stuck in a boardwalk, I discovered the Leather Spa is the best place to get these shoes fixed. The material on the heel had totally peeled off.. and I hated the fact that the soles were no longer red :( So I found out that they replace the soles, in addition to fixing my heel. I live 20 mins. outside the city and this place is totally worth the commute: When I got my shoes back, they looked brand new again! And they've been holding up ever since [2 yrs] As far as price, you get what you pay for and since it is among stores such as Gucci and LV, you expect to pay a bit more. Terrible terrible and more terrible. How does this place continue to get good reviews? This place USED to be good but has gone DRASTICALLY down hill!!! Brought my Chanel bag in to get repaired (Grand central location), cost me $120 for dying it and it still looks shitty! Talked to the manager and she was not understanding at all and said they don't take any liability in how their dyes come out. I decided to give it "the leather spa" another try because my Chanel was a very old bag so I thought "ok, let's see how they are with a new Chanel and a jacket" and decided to take my belongings to a different location - The Leather Spa inside The Plaza Hotel. They were BEYOND rude. I wanted to get my Chanel bag fixed and a leather jacket fixed and he said "sorry we cannot help you we don't work with jackets only shoes". Is that a joke? Horrible service and terrible attitudes. They don't have pride in their work and will try to act like stains and holes were there before you brought the item in. These guys took a pair of shoes that would have cost over four hundred dollars to replace and were headed for the trash and made them look pretty great again. I thought they managed expectations well. The service is pricey but worth it if you have a sentimental attachment and want to get some more wear out of a favorite high quality pair of shoes. Took my shoes here because Bergorf recommended them for my Manolos. I can only say: I wish I hadn't. I took a pair of red oxford Church's to be cleaned and polished (cost: $45). The very nice guy who took my shoes assured me the contrast stitching would not be touched. Picking up my shoes a week later (note: they do not deliver), the contrast stitching was no more. When I inquired, then expressed disappointment then complained, then created a scene, nothing helped. Essentially, the people who man the counter don't know shoes and aren't empowered to do anything. The guy at the counter said he'd need to send my shoes back to the factory, who could call me on Monday. But when I asked if I could call someone on Monday, there is no one to call, the person is on vacation, there is no phone number and "David", the manager, can't be reached when he's in. He could not call me, or have my shoes delivered, or give me a discount, or do anything for me. Additionally, the shoe insoles came back very scratched (how does that happen?) and the laces had been relaced erratically, meaning I'll have to redo it. I'll be looking for another place for future assistance. If I'm going to pay $45 to have my shoes ruined, I'll do it myself and save the money. If you like your shoes, go elsewhere. read more
