If you're looking for white-glove customer service, keep on walking through Port Authority and hop on a bus to Short Hills Mall in New Jersey because this ain't the place to find hand-holding or pleasantries. What you will find instead is top-notch shoe repair services and quite possible the best shoeshine available on the island of Manhattan -- or pretty much anywhere. Most recently, I took my beat-up, 15-year-old pair of Bruno Magli shoes to be resoled, and the results were stunning. I've had them repaired before with good results in the past, but there was exquisite attention to detail in the contour of the replacement soles; you'd hardly know that they weren't original, unless you know your Bruno Magli! The shoeshine was deep and long-lasting; two weeks after almost-daily use and commuting, there was still almost a mirror-like finish on them. Impressive. The décor and branding wouldn't win any awards, and you don't come here to chat (or to save a few bucks), but the quality of the work could hardly be better. read more

Everyone knows that traveling through the Port Authority is about as fun as a colonoscopy without sedation. What everyone doesn't know is how a great shoe shine can completely change your outlook on the day. I pass through Port Authority Bus Terminal almost daily, both on the weekdays and many weekends. Drago Shoe Repair is one of the most convenient places for me to go and get my shoes shined on the way to work. The guys area always friendly, quick and they do a great shine. There are a couple places I have gone near Grand Central that finish up a shine and it seems to get messed up almost the same day. When I go to Drago, the manage to do it right! Drago isn't just about shines though. They fix shoes, ties and more. They sell all this *stuff* that i honestly wouldn't know where else to go for without doing research. Need shoe laces? Collar stays? "Invisible" tie holds? Shoe covers? The list just goes on and on and on. I really love the diversity of product available here, and from the constant flow of people I see bringing in shoes for repair, they must do the job right. I know I'll have to get the heels fixed on of my pairs of shoes in the next 6 months or so, and I'll be bringing them here. :) read more

After going to this place for over 10 years, I realized that I have been over paying by almost 50%. I would not have written this review but I am fuming. I brought in a brand new designer Lauboutin boot to have rubber soles put on. never wore these yet and paid over 900 for them. I come to pick up that pair and 3 other pairs that I left and sawy that he ruinded my brand new expensive pair with scratches on them. he must have thrown them on a pair of tools or something. when I asked him about this, he just shrugged and said that happens....and??? he demands to be paid before the work is even done so I could not ask for my money back. he was rude and did not even care. They have quote on their table, they may not be God, but they do save soles. As I was heading to Boston from Penn, I needed to resole my loafers, they did it on the spot. Soles from Italy for the heel, and the vibram for the feet. Then they hand shined the shoes up - looked better than new. And the cool thing, everyone at Boston kept commenting on my shoes.. So either the shine or Drago truly added soul to my soles. read more

When your feet are your primary mode of transportation, your shoes frequently need a tune-up. The hubs takes both of our shoes here for repairs and I've been consistently pleased with the results. I have a favorite pair of boots that I wear constantly during the colder months, and they've replaced both zippers, resoled them, replaced taps, repaired heels, patched one toe, rebuilt the other toe, replaced insoles, and shined them up over the last few years. It's not always cheap, but I feel it's commensurate with the workmanship. read more

AVOID. I had some scuffs on my $200 dollar sneakers so took them to Drago. For $35 they made them 10x worse - removed the coloring from the whole shoe regardless of where the scuff was - and instead of an apology all I got was "don't forget the disclaimer when you paid". Ladies, word of advice DO NOT bring your shoes here. The man in the front desk is a rude and angry individual, which wouldn't be so bad except the quality of the work stinks! I paid 85.00 for 4 pairs of high heels to be cleaned up and re-heeled and one pair re-soled. One pair came back damaged with a big gouged out mark in it. When I complained the man at the desk said nonchalantly "It was like that." Absolute liar and could not care less because I paid up front. My shoes were cleaned?...yeah right, the cleaning was a joke. Much better option in this area are the independant shoemakers, DO NOT USE DRAGO's IN PORT AUTHORITY! read more

Do not do business with Drago. I purchased a Totes umbrella from them- and upon opening it for the first time I discovered the umbrella was defective- missing a screw. I brought it back to them with the receipt- and they claimed it was now a 'warranty repair'. They agreed I had not broken it- but were unwilling to accept the return- even though it was less than a day since I purchased it. Now I have to pay shipping to Totes and wait weeks for a replacement. Drago doesn't care about their customers. I strongly recommend going to Tony Shoe Repair- much better at shines and shoe repairs as well. read more

I have had shoes SAVED by Drago on numerous occassions. I have met the owner many times and he, and his VERY experienced staff, have gone out of their way to do complicated repairs quickly, and for a decent price. They can turn something around very fast if you let them know that it's due in a hurry. Showgirl's got a broken heel? Drago can fix it before curtain time. The best in the neighborhood, and that includes the one on 51st Street which shall not be named... A great place for repairs and upkeep on your favorite pair!!! New Yorkers, do NOT walk around these sidewalks with leather soles. Drago can put on a sole-saver that will lengthen the life of the shoes by years. read more

DON'T GO HERE. THEY ARE TERRIBLE. horrible customer service and shoe repair. went to have my shoes stretched and the guy at the counter said that he would stretch it and if they were not stretched enough he would do it again. he never explained to me that there was the possibility that the leather would be ruined in color and texture. did it the first time and it was fine but the shoes were not stretched enough. he did it again and totally ruined the look of the leather. it looks like he dropped chemicals on it and there are all these blotchy spots on the shoes. when i explained the disbelief that my shoes were ruined he told me they "don't guarantee anything" and that nothing could be done except slap some shoe polish on warped ruined leather. I will never go here again. Extremely disappointed. read more

Service is fine, but the staff employs high pressure tactics to get folks to tip more than what I consider necessary. Shoe shines in the area are generally 3 bucks. I always pay $5. These guys raised their prices up to $4 and still expect a minimum of a $2 tip. That's a 50% tip - for a 5-10 minute job. I tip a buck, which is 25% - I think it's plenty. They do a fine job, just like every other shop. What I don't like is the high pressure tactics the shoe shiners put on folks to make people feel bad (they have to feed their families - so do I!!!!). Tell the owner to lower the price so they can receive more tips. Or get the owner to pay them a higher salary. Luckily we live in a competitive envoironment, so I have choice. This place is a joke. I brought in a pair of Jimmy Choo boots which needed protective soles and heel taps. I told him I wanted to the light colored soles (beige) to match the original leather. He immediately told me it would look silly and kept suggesting the black soles instead. I thought that would look ridiculous since the soles would then be two toned with half black protective soles and beige leather on the remainder of the boots. I stood my ground and told him no. He continued to argue with me (quite smugly) going on and on about how silly my boots would look. Then when he asked what color I wanted for the heel taps I told him the same color that was on the boot and he laughed and said the boots would really look ridiculous. I told him "Don't you know the customer is always right?" To which he replied "Not in my place of business." Then he demanded payment in full up front. I took my boots and walked out. read more
