I returned to Lebanon after many years and found the food was as spectacular as I had remembered it. The ambience, on the other hand, was definitely not what I remembered. The owner has since have swapped out old incandescent bulbs for daylight (cool temperature) led bulbs. It's lost its warmth and coziness and romantic charm. The patio was full and so we had to eat inside where my date joked that I might as well have taken her to eat in a hospital waiting room to eat because the lighting would've been more flattering! I'm not picky about these things but I had to agree. If the owner reads this, I employ you to spend a dollar per bulb and swap out the daylight LED bulbs for some warm LED bulbs. I might be back but I guarantee you unless that changes made it will not be on another date! read more

Wonderful find!!! Need to try more next time but can say the shrimp kebab is the best we have ever tried and we all wanted to lick the plate after the feta dip was gone. We were a little more divided on the grape leaves but the flavors were excellent - just not everyone likes them piping hot. Hummus was delish! As was the salad. Just off the St Charles streetcar line (near its shops, actually) is this cool little place with tasty Mediterranean food, including maybe the best stuffed grape leaves I've ever sampled. My lula kebab platter was pretty good too, particularly the accompanying hummus. My waitress was a pleasure as well, not only because she was good at her job but because she came across as a genuinely nice person. If there was a letdown of any kind it involved the baklava, which though still pleasant was drier than what I prefer. Went back with friends on a warm Thursday night. Sat outside enjoying their company. Ordered falafel. Six pieces per order. Four orders. 24 pieces of a falafel. What were we thinking for six people? Since we were also taking food to go for my friend's triplets, I figured we would have some leftovers. Also had the sampler app with hummus, baba ganoush, labna, tabouli, and stuffed grapes leaves. Subbed the falafel for extra stuffed grape leaves. Added a hummus with roasted cauliflower and pomegranate drizzle. Amazing! Split an eggplant sandwich with my friend which I did not even touch because I was so stuffed from all of the falafel, which surprisingly our table finished. We had to order a couple of falafel sandwiches to for the girls who were studying and working so hard. The guys had the chicken gyros. We took the Streetcar which stops almost right outside the cafe. If I could give this place 10 stars I would. It's a cute cozy place with a view of the streetcars going by. Indoor or al fresco dining. The food is sensational, the lamb was the most tender and flavorful we have had in a long while. The beetroot hummus and Musaha (dry roasted eggplant) and Tzatziki was fantastic, in fact we ordered so much food and ate it all I am almost ashamed (no not really). Our server was a delight, accommodating, friendly and efficient. This was great value and small business at it's best. If we lived in New Orleans we would go every week and the lamb population would dwindle quickly. Lebanon's Cafe has been serving the New Orleans area for over 22 years and has great middle eastern ambiance. One thing that I noticed right away is the friendly staff and cozy environment. I ordered a bunch of appetizers: falafel, vegetarian grape leaves (they do have one with meat as well), cauliflower with hummus and pommergrante vinaigrette. The falafel is crunchy and moist on the inside. Often times, I found falafel can be dry at some places but not here. It's the best I've had. 5 stars The cauliflower/ hummus was great but the pommergrante sauce tasted more Like balsmic. 3 stars hoping for a thicker true pommergrante sauce. Grape leaves: didn't like the extremely acidic rice stuffing. 1 star (would not recommend the vegetarian version) My friend had their standard gyro meat platter. Which is juicy and well made and first time seeing it in thick cuts vs flat. 5 stars. Outside of this, when I saw it was Lebanese based i was super excited to try the "authentic " experience but I was disappointed with not seeing toum on their menu. Lebanese cuisine specifically has this over tahini/ taziki. Toum, meaning "garlic" in Arabic, originated in the fertile lands of Lebanon. Its rich history dates back centuries, where it was cherished as a staple in Lebanese cuisine. It's savory and garlicky flavor and silky smooth. Other than this, I can't differentiate the food from greek or lebanese. Having toum would seal the deal. Besides all this though...overall 4/5 for food and friendliness/speed. I've been going to this place over 10yrs, and while it's not the traditional "New Orleans" meal, I rarely come to the city without visiting Lebanons. The Chicken with hummus dinner is the only meal I've gotten for the past decade and it never disappoints. The chicken is always juicy and the vegetables are always plenty. The hummus is always fresh. The servings for to-go have gotten a bit smaller over the years, but the food is still good. Back in the day, they also used to give out 3 candied almonds with each meal. I'm sad they've stopped that the past few years as it was something I'd always look forward to receiving. I think now you can pay for the almonds. The service is typically good and everyone is usually kind. Maybe only once or twice over a decade have I encountered an unpleasant server. I hope the serving size remains consistent and the food quality remains high. I highly recommend Lebanon's and I'll be back! read more

During my first experience here, i was expecting to be greeted with friendly and considerate staff but instead i was met with racism and rudeness, immediate dirty looks. One waitress made the experience enjoyable named Star. She was very bubbly and kind. I had ordered the chicken kabob and it was dry beyond belief it felt like i was chewing a tire. Lebanon cafe is my goto restaurant for Mediterranean food in the city. They are located on S. Carrollton steps away from the streetcar line and there is plenty of street parking in the area. Every time we go here this place is busy, but not too busy. If you can't get a table inside they also have five or six tables outside so you can soak up the uptown streetcar scenery while dining. I also need to point out that if you need to wait for a table it is well worth it because Lebanon Cafe serves the most authentic Mediterranean food in the city! On our visits we start with hummus, but this is not so simple as they have the most extensive selection of hummus available at any restaurant I have been to. So far I have tried Red pepper hummus, feta dip, humma with fried cauliflower and they were all delish. Plus they have many other items available like zaater bread and of course falafels. After our starters If we are lucky we have room to enjoy lamb shish kabobs, chicken shawarma and vegetarian plate if we are with a picky eater. read more

I've eaten here for the past 20 years. It is not what it used to be. They seem to have changed their recipes during COVID and the food is unrecognizable. I gave them a good 4 tries, after the changes, because I was not willing to let Lebanon's go yet. The chicken shwarma wrap is so flavorless, that I brought it home and repurposed it as a burrito. The labnah is made with a new recipe that makes it runny and tastes like tzatziki sauce. They got rid of the pine nuts in the Lebanese tea, and when I asked why, they said that pine nuts are too expensive. I've finally let go. RIP. read more

Lebanon's Cafe was meh! Not a bad experience, but I wasn't blown away either. However, they have great reviews, maybe we came in on an off day? Let's start with the good! OMG their falafel was AMAZING. I would come by just to get some falafels. They were crispy and very well-seasoned. The interior was soft and green. I'm not sure what the green was from, but I'm guessing fresh herbs. These were the best and most flavor-packed falafels I've had in the city!! At $6 for 6, it's not that pricey either. I also had the beef shish kabob plate ($18). It comes with a side of salad and hummus. The portions were generous, no complaints there! They give you plenty of meat too; no skimping! The beef was flavorful, tender, and just delicious! The hummus that comes with it was creamy and good with a little 1drizzle of garlic olive oil. The salad was fresh, but the dressing was lackluster. It was flavorless and seemed like just oil. I got a side of basmati rice ($3), which was mediocre. The portion was kind of small (rice is so cheap, why are we skimping here?), but it was cooked well. However, it was yellow with zero flavor to go with the color. Most other Mediterranean places season their rice with stock and etc., so it's yum to eat by itself. Not this place. I guess I shouldn't have assumed or expected too much. We substituted a side with the baba ganuj to try it too. It was okay, but kind of bland. It needs more seasoning. The vegetarian stuffed grape leaves ($6.50) were awful. It was bland, flavorless, falling apart, not fresh, and just not worth the calories. Stuffed grape leaves should taste great on their own without being smothered in sauce. Plus, they tried to cover up the ones that were falling apart with garnish. Come on, guys... These were the worst I've had in New Orleans. I probably wouldn't go to Lebanon's Cafe again, but it was fine. Maybe if you live in the area and you don't have a car or something. It's just that there are so many other fantastic Mediterranean restaurants in our town for the same (or cheaper) price. read more

We ordered a selection of appetizers, Mediterranean classics done in a very nice way. My group of three had a late dinner here on a Saturday night. Parking was surprisingly easy! The inside of the restaurant is very casual. The A/C was weird, like super cold and blowing all in our faces. It was too much. We did have a bit of a wait for our food, but I thought that it was worth the wait. I ordered the Chicken Shawarma Plate with an "extra" side of tzatziki sauce. For some odd reason, they filled my plate with tzatziki and didn't give me any hummus. The server was quick to resolve and brought me a "small" plate of hummus. The serving was smaller than what the other guest had on her actual plate, so I do feel like I was cheated in that regard. All of the food was very delicious (chicken, salad and hummus)! The pita bread is never-ending (yay)! A secret gem that's a favorite amongst the local community, the cafe serves up Lebanese and other middle eastern delicacies at budget-friendly prices. I went with my gf and our waiter was wonderfully attentive. We sat at a sidewalk table so we could hear excellent music coming from a bar next door. I got lentil soup and a lamb shank special entree. I had a very mixed experience dining here, although the food was very good. When i walked in, the hostess ignored me and then announced she was on her break. I had to ask if I was supposed to sit down or what. She did not seem happy to be there at all. And like, I get it. I have worked in restaurants for many years. It sucks. But you can't let the customers know that. And the hostess stand probably isn't a great area to take a break... The food was good, and the waitress took good care of me. The lentil soup stood out, but the vegetarian dishes were all good. Portions were not huge for the price, but it's hard to find legit middle eastern fare here. This was pretty legit stuff. The worst part though was the bathroom. It was filthy and had not been cleaned in days. It was infested with fruit flies to the point where it was really gross to be in there. So that left a pretty bad aftertaste in my mouth! I'd opt for take out in the future. Food is worth it. read more
