This place used to have such wonderful, friendly people running it but no more. Sadly now the new owner has untrained young kids waiting on people. No more greeting of the customers by a friendly face just a blank stare from behind the counter. Dunkin Donuts, Krispy Kreme---neither can come close to standing up to Lee's Donuts. I live within walking distance and my boyfriend and I keep going back every weekend morning for more. The donuts are always fresh, and often still warm. As recent east coasters, the bagels are the closest we've found to a New York bagel. The workers there are also always friendly, and when you buy a donut they throw in a munchkin! The croissants are also to die for. I still have the glazed donut taste on my tongue from Sunday brunch.... Though it might not look like much from the outside, this is a must-stop in Alameda. read more

Never going back! New management has horrible customer service! I went in to buy a Nesquik. I paid with my debit card. The rude cashier took my card and right before she swiped my card she told me that there's an additional charge because my total was under $10. After quickly telling me this she swiped my card, not giving me a chance to let her know if it was ok or not. Clearly she has no consideration. I came back in about a minute later and I told her how I didn't appreciate her swiping my card without my approval. She should've asked me first. She then gets mad and starts being rude to me because I came back in to let her know that I didn't like the way she handled my transaction. She then starts saying that she asked me if it was ok with me if she swiped my card when she CLEARLY (and QUICKLY) just told me that there was an additional charge and swiped it. Later on that day I called the store so I could report the bad customer service. The manager took her side and said that she had asked me when she obviously didn't. After going back forth for a couple of minutes he told me not to come back. He didn't need to tell me that because after my horrible experience earlier that day I knew I wasn't going back. read more

I had a few good experiences getting the kids (and mayyyybe myself) a Saturday morning donut. However, the last time I went we went we got a really bad batch. Tina was super helpful on Father's Day. I came in early to get bear claws because those are my husband's favorite. She didn't have any ready and told me to come back and she would have them for me. I came back at the time and they still weren't quite ready. So she made sure that the order was put in and I got bear claws for my husband for father's day! They were fresh out of the oven and delicious. She was really nice and remembered who my husband was. She knew he came in a bunch and they are usually quite busy in the mornings. Their bear claws are really good!!! They have a yummy crispiness on the outside and sweet softness on the inside. Just thinking about them makes me want one now! So I wanted to give this place a better rating because their donuts are great and the other pastries are all definitely worth it. Today, however, I got one of the last donuts at 9. I don't know if that's a common thing but I feel like if you're a doughnut shop you should at least have donuts until 10 or so. This is a fantastic little donut shop, with the added benefit of being right by the beach. My favorite is the chocolate twist. Its best to go early soyou get the donuts when they are warm. The only downside is that they often sell out of things if you don't get there early enough. read more

I have patronized this donut shop a lot over the past 2-3 years. I don't know what is going on, but the last 2 times I bought "Chocolate Old Fashioned" donuts (4 each time) they were stale and made a previous day. The taste difference is quite apparent. The owner is keeping stale donuts and selling them as made fresh that day. Twice now. I am done with this place. Not very friendly people anyway. First, let me say that having a donut shop as a full-time business is not easy. I've been coming to this place for the last two years and I love it. For those who've given low ratings with comments like "they were out of my favorite donut when I got there at 11am" should understand that Casey, the owner, has to get there by 4am to prepare the dough for each of the items they carry, and is constantly moving around until he finally gets to go home at 3 or 4pm... and he does this EVERY...DAY. And people want to complain that he doesn't have their "favorite" donut at 3pm in the afternoon? Give me a break. Let's say, If he continues to make each and every donut until 11am, he will have a pile of wasted product which will make its way to the trash because very few people want donuts from 2-4pm in the afternoon. That's wasted product, and money lost. That would put him out of business eventually. So that being said, he makes just enough where he knows that they will all sell and very few will be wasted. Why? So he can wake up the next day at 3am to get there by 4am to prepare the dough for all those donuts and have the store opened by 5am to serve you and still have the business running. Think. He's got the patience of a saint. If he doesn't have your favorite one, tough, pick another because the person behind you will take it if you don't. Off the top, the donuts are excellent. However, as others have noted, the service needs to be more friendly. I didn't appreciate the attitude I received when I didn't understand which donuts made up a "regular" dozen. I really like the baker and I wish him well, but there are other donut shops nearby that I will bring my business to. Get new counter help. read more
