Fresh, fluffy, and crispy in the right edges. I got half a dozen donut holes and a regular glazed, and they were soft and so good. My friend got the Bacon, egg, and cheese croissant breakfast sandwich and it was also packed and delicious. The Chinese food in the display looked good too and lots of people were ordering them. Inconsistent pricing -- the first time I went, I got three donuts and a black coffee, and it was $8. The second time, I got six donuts and a black coffee, and it was $18. The third time, I got two donuts, and it was $3.50, and was short changed a quarter (I gave a $5 bill, and received $1.25). I enjoy supporting small businesses, but after giving this place my business three times -- I won't be coming back. Regarding the donuts -- the maple glaze is very tasty, as is the regular glaze on the round and twist donuts. The chocolate was not good at all, to me -- I tried one the first two times, and avoided it the third. Not worth it. They were light and fluffy the first two times I went and had a faint taste of old oil, but the third time, they weren't as light, and tasted strongly of old oil. So I come from the east coast where there is a Dunkin Donuts every half mile. So as a transplant, the lack of chain donuts in California puzzled me. Instead you have these local hole in the wall mom and pop-ish donut places. Still, I'm sold. Yeah you don't have a hundred donut varieties only a dozen or so. But they're epically fresh baked and yummy, the people are nice, and the coffee isn't larping as a milkshake. Reasonable prices also don't hurt. This particular Lee is in a strip mall off San Pablo that you might never pull off into, next to a laundromat and Salvadoran restaurant (review to come later). The selection of donuts changes slowly through out the day as they make different types, so it's really about getting whatever is fresh out of the fryer! They usually have a selection of yeasted and cake donuts, donut holes, plus some specialty donuts like apple fritters, cinnamon swirls, maple bars, and fruit tarts. If you want a cream-filled donut - just ask! They keep them refrigerated in back, and they are some of the best cream filled donuts I've ever had! Sometimes that have old fashioned donuts and blueberry cake donuts too! ...I haven't tried the savory food yet, but I've been tempted, it smells delicious, and I've been told by friends it's excellent cheap & greasy Chinese food! So were I work I always see the guys eating fried chicken for lunch and I found out that it was from Lee's Doughnuts. Apparently, they have quite the reputation. So here I go getting the fried chicken and doughnuts. Well, ooohhhh chile! The chicken was really good. It was fried crispy and seasoned delicately but well. Now the only downfall was they dont fry the chicken to order. It was pre-fried and sitting under the heat lamp. It was warm but not totally hot. That said, it was still very tasty.
