The bagels here have all the elements of a great NY-style bagel but without the follow-through. There is some malt flavor, and there is some tooth to the crust. However the flavor is mild and the bite lacks crispness. The bagels were a bit pale, but you wouldn't want to give them more time in the oven, since the one saving grace of the bagel was its crumb. A perfect balance of chewy and fluffy -- light to eat yet structured enough for a sandwich. From time to time I like to frequent mom and pop breakfast places instead of going to franchise giants like McDonald s , jack in the box or Denny's . I didn t want anything too large because I also had a lunch spot in mind to try out I this particular Friday . Inside is small but clean . A family operation looks like husband and wife. Simple menu, bagels donuts, donut holes,croissants , coffee frappes etc. I just order the half cheese and egg jalapeño bagel. It was ok. It was very hot temperature wise and fresh. Location is great. Alameda is a great place to discover new places. For instance I never knew Alameda has a KOHLs and Office Max. Also an army navy supply store which is very cool in its own right . The naval base here still has the Uss hornet tours still I believe . The south shore has volleyball courts and the best view of the SF skyline I've ever seen, it was a total clear day helped a lot. 4/5 price and location and options will make me try it again . Taste wise - they're pretty decent. The quality is there. But the accessibility and convenience, along with pricing, knocked it down a star. The pastrami sandwich had two thin slices of pastrami only. They do add in some lettuce, tomatoes, onions, mayo and mustard, but for $11.. It's a pretty thin sandwich. I did like that they toast the sandwich though! My egg, sausage, and cheese croissant was good however I wish they had some condiments available to add in. I'm a hot sauce and ketchup girly, so my breakfast sandwich felt a little lacking without. They press TF out of the croissant so it's suuuuuuper thin. I didn't love the texture of that. This was also $10-11. In what world does a single chocolate bar run you $3 now? I do have to say it was delicious. The donut had a soft chew to it that I really enjoyed and the choc icing was pretty good. But still! Mind you, it's metered street parking only. If you can find parking closer to the residential end, it's free but it's slim pickings as it's located on the main street. They don't even have a sign out front, other than a small one on the side walk, so kinda easy to miss. The shop is way small, so I can see it getting a bit crowded. They have a big menu but none of the donuts, bagels, etc are labeled.... So unless you just know what you want, it can be hard to figure out what is what. They do take Apple Pay and CC but I believe there is a $5 or $10 minimum otherwise you'll incur a fee. read more

I got a plain bagel with cream cheese and a dozen donut holes. Bagel was toasted and it was just enough cream cheese. Donut holes aren't too sweet and tastes great with coffee! Customer service is really poor. After ordering an iced coffee, I went back to the counter and asked if they could make it sweet because I like my iced coffee sweet. The gentleman at the counter told me that they don't make it that way and I should've asked him when I placed the ordered. Isn't that his job? I told him I was a new customer and didn't realize they didn't make their iced coffee sweet. I told him, this is the first time I've ever had it unsweetened. Then they started scolding me and debating with me. I politely asked if he could just make it sweeter. They made them quickly and labeled them (which I greatly appreciate!). The bagels were pretty good and well toasted, there was a good amount of cream cheese plopped on there (which is v important to me I love cream cheese), and they were well cut. I come here mainly for donuts and bagels and it's been enjoyable every time. The owners are friendly and know how to move the line when there is one. I wanted to treat my coworkers to bagels, especially because our office was experience a heater malfunction, and without even having tried them beforehand, the bagels were a hit! Many of my coworkers raved about them being some of the best bagels they have had in the Bay Area -- very soft was a descriptor often used. Nicely toasted, soft and chewy bagels with fresh eggs and meat...I'm a fan of the breakfast sandwiches from Alameda Bagels & Donuts! I also feel like I write this a lot, so let me elaborate by saying that texture and flavor of the bagel is what stood out the most. Sometimes I find that bagels from other places are too dense, too much like bread, or lacking flavor, but it wasn't the case here and I loved this sandwich compared to a number of other donut or bagels shops I've tried. Another reason is that the bagels were not large, yet they were still pretty filling and I'd hoped they would be for the cost. (But ask me on a super hungry day and I may say one would need to eat 2 lol). So far, I've tried their Sesame, Everything, and Blueberry bagels and all were great. I've also had their croissants, which were ok but not very flaky, so I would say go for the bagels. Customer service was good. There was only one person ahead of me. The Great Alameda Bagel Taste Off of 2021. Our family kept debating which was the best bagel of the four (!) bagel places on Alameda Island (sorry bay farm). Criteria was wide ranging and kind of depends what you like in a bagel. My wife prefers crunchy outside and soft inside. I prefer a tastier, softer bagel. we agreed to meet in the middle. We rated not just the bagel itself, but also the cream cheese, two sandwiches (sausage/egg/cheese and a vegan sando), as well as the service and decor. Levy's was the winner, mostly driven by having the second best bagel (Alameda Bagel & donut wins), by far the best sandwiches (especially the Greenwich vegan bagel sando, which is fantastic), and great service. If you're just looking for a delicious soft bagel, Alameda Bagel and Donuts are great. Their sandos were in third but you can also get a donut hole while you're there, so Alameda Bagel gets second place. Bagel Street Cafe has the best decor, including outdoor seating, so to put them in third is a bit harsh. Bagels were pretty good, service was fine, it's a good spot, and more options for sandos. Last place by far was house of bagel. Poor service, awful sandos, and meh bagels at best. read more

Today was my 1ST and LAST time here. The RUDEST Vietnamese couple doing business and running a donut bagel shop on the island. I ordered a bacon ham and cheese croissant. They left out the ham so when I went back, I asked them to toast it, but not flatten the bread. The Vietnamese woman owner started yelling at me, which I could not understand a word. I asked her why is she yelling (while she's making food). It's not in my control they can't understand or follow my instructions that happen to be in English, and when I go back to fix it, they felt entitled and embarrassed and compelled to keep arguing with the customer. Clearly the husband owner couldn't get my order correct the first time because he was spacing out while helping two customers at once. In my opinion, that is rude. If you can't multitask and help two customers at once, chances are, you will get the order incorrect. The typical nail shop yelling vibe which I will never come back! The only reason I put up with the nail shops is because I have no other choice. The ham cheese egg croissant looks like what you get at McDonald's but they charge $10!
