Lee's chicken is always good food. This review is more about customer service and business practices. I sometimes get Lees to go and take home and eat, but sometimes i like to eat in. I walked into the 21st street Lee's at 6:56 pm. I was running errands and wanted to sit down eat. The employee at the cash register said the lobby is closing in a few minutes. So i asked: "so i cant sit in here and eat? He replied "no, carry out only" So i asked "why so early?" He replied "we close at 8, so the lobby closes at 7 so we can start cleaning up" I am asking now, hoping Lees management sees this. How about you dont start cleaning until the end of customer business hours at 8 pm? This is what all food service does except for lees! C'mon Lees! Do better. read more

Like for real... it's 7:22pm on a Wednesday and their sign says in a hand written note, "Store hours 11am-8pm" and yet the lobby is closed and the doors are locked! Well you just cost yourselves a customer because you're too lazy to uphold what your signage says. I hope going home early was worth it! I have not been to Lee's famous recipe Chicken for quite some time. After tonight's meal, I think I remember why? In a nutshell, it sucked! Everything about it sucked. They baited and switched prices from their website, the prices in the Drive-Thru window were a couple dollars more for each meal. That is not right! I got a five-strip chicken dinner, my two sides were potato wedges. I can tell you 100%, they took old potato wedges and just threw them back in the grease to heat them up. The breading on the chicken dinner my wife got was so salty she couldn't eat it. I should have stayed home and made a peanut butter sandwich. read more

Enough is enough! Every time I stop at the drive thru I get home to something missing or the order is wrong. I ordered the 3 pc and ask for all 3 to be legs. Today I got home and when I opened the container there were 2 legs. My receipt said 3pc. Sides were tiny and of course there has been an increase in pricing. I attempted to call the number on the receipt, no answer with each attempt (3). Also when I pulled up, I was the only customer, it appeared that the employees were all outside. Apparently this establishment does not have a manager. Now they also have 1 less customer. read more

Not all Lee's Famous Chicken is equal :-( The chicken at the 1635 N 21st St location is the worst. The chicken was way overcooked and the green beans had no flavor what so ever!! I've tried the chicken at the 1005 W Main St location and it is a bit better. What I do find interesting is neither of these places cook the chicken as well as they do in the Dayton OH area. The Marion Ohio location comes VERY CLOSE to cooking excellent chicken. These franchises in Newark should be retrained on how to produce the high quality food this franchise is known for. I will never order food again from the 21st location and just maybe from the Main St location when I happen to be in the area. read more

I stopped in a pinch having driven by it many many times. A friend told me it was one of their favorite places to get chicken and so I thought what the heck. I ordered the chicken tenders with a side of mashed potatoes and gravy and I have to say the quality of the chicken was amazing and the breading was perfect! Not too much and not too little. I would definitely go back again and would have to say that I prefer it over KFC. If you're out in Newark give it a try! read more

Their bone in chicken is always juicy and well seasoned, we prefer it over the bucket place. Their chicken tenders in my opinion is far better than the place that gives you Texas toast. They seem to have juicier and better flavor. I still prefer the bone in chicken and it seems to me their chicken has more meat than others? Plus their sides seem to be larger and better flavor. Then again we've always ate here for many years so I may be partial :) read more

12/1/22 I purchased a combo meal and did not receive one of my large sides. Tonight I purchased something else and brought this up and they said there was nothing they could do about it. It also took near 20 minutes for them to service 4 customers while the manager and 2 others were just talking in the back. read more

We were at Lee's in Newark today. We were very pleasantly surprised. The service was extremely good. We felt like we were invited friends. The food was as good and hot. Working in Heath today feeling hamburgered out . A couple of co workers have told me about Lee's famous recipe chicken . When I heard they serve chicken livers I was like yep I'll go try it . Now I'm a big guy with a big appetite so I thought I would have no problem tackling a large order of chicken livers ...I was wrong ! Let's start with the livers . Lightly breaded with just enough crunch to let you know it was there and still letting the livers shine through . Some people may think chicken livers are a simple thing to cook but there is a fine line between being under done and being hard and rubbery . Lee's managed that tightrope expertly . The livers were cooked perfectly and tender enough to melt in your mouth . The biscuts which I assume were buttermilk were amazing . Lee's made a believer out of me today . I grew up on Lee's and never liked KFC. We moved to Columbus 15 years ago and there are no Lee's in Columbus. So when we head back home to visit, we will stop and get some. We stopped on Saturday night. My husband ordered the chicken strips and wedges. As he said "These are the best strips I've ever had, even better than Cane's". They were really good and fresh. I got the breast meal and added a chicken leg with mashed potatoes, green beans, and biscuit. It was soooo good. The taters and gravy tasted like homemade. Green beans were a little salty but I ate them all. And I have to say, THANK YOU for not using 'honey sauce' but real honey. Sooo much better. read more

I have to say, I was very excited when I found out my route was going to take me past a Lee's during lunchtime. Their quality, meaty, not too greasy great chicken flavor fried chicken is my favorite! I was even more excited when I saw the fried gizzards on the menu! My excitement however went downhill from there. When my gizzards came out they were soggy and drenched in oil. I had them fry them a little longer and then they were nice and crispy, but still drenched in oil, so much so that they were not very appetizing. I ordered a drumstick and the combo, with one spicy and one famous recipe. The spice was hardly detectable, as was any flavor, but it did have a nice crispy exterior. The flavor of the meat itself was a little off. My famous recipe thigh was worse. The flavor of the meat was very off, and very greasy and fatty like it hadn't been trimmed properly. I couldn't finish the thigh or the gizzards, so I threw them out. I hope this was an off day for them as I so love this place and hope to have a positive visit sometime down the road. read more

My mother went thru here today to get my nephew a kids meal (he's 3). He got fruit punch and when we got home we went to fill the cup up with something else and THERE WERE ANTS crawling around and floating in the cup! This was freaking horrifying! My nephew had drank almost the whole thing at that point! We called and the person who answered didn't seem to think this was any big deal, he said it was probably from the sugar in the drink--DUH! Doesn't matter, someone fills that cup and puts a lid on it! If they miss ants crawling all over in a cup what else are they missing?! If they don't have the cleanliness to discover ants in their drinks or cups what else isn't clean?! And most important, if they don't CARE that they served a child an infested drink what else don't they care about and are serving you?!. We were offered another meal, but get real! We'll never come back here. If the person on the other end had been remotely affected, horrified or expressed any sincerity at the problem maybe I wouldn't be writing this, but the reality is we were offered excuses "it must've been busy" and apathy. And considering this place is generally pretty dead there's no excuse for any uncleanliness, as the employees have plenty of time to clean and stock and recheck things. I've worked in the food industry off and on over the years and this is unacceptable on both a commercial, hospitality and human level. read more
