My husband and I eat at OBN quite often. Their fish and chips are always delicious. It is my husbands go to fish restaurant. He absolutely loves theirs. We usually always have great service and a good time. I did notice on some of the reviews that their was a complaint about sticky tables. I did notice that and I don't think it was a cleanliness issue, I think when they polyurethaned their tables it may not have been done correctly, which makes them feel tacky. read more

This was a pickup order for my wife, who is from Cape Cod and knows her lobster. What she ordered was two lobster rolls. She should have known better! You are not going to get quality lobster this far away from the coast, at least not from old bag of nails. As expected, her lobster rolls were skimpy, hardly any mayonnaise, french fries that weren't cooked, and they forgot her coleslaw! $24.00 for that?? I wish I had taken a photo. She didn't eat them. The time it took to get a cheese steak sandwich, a buffalo wrap, and a side salad was one hour and 35 minutes. After ordering the salad, it was delivered after 30 minutes. We waited an additional 20 minutes for our meals to be served. The wrap had tomatoes on it, so the server indicated it will be made again when she returned to the table. I suppose the steak was going to sit there and cool off while that was being rebuilt. We advised her to simply bring it with her. We gave up after another 10 minutes of waiting for our food. Served our beverages and a side salad with a 10 and then departed. They weren't overworked or busy, so they didn't know why it took so long. read more

It had been a while since I was at this location. I like the other locations. Our server, Tony, was very good. When we arrived we were told the wait was 15 to 20 minutes. I looked around and counted nine empty tables. After 15 minutes we were seated at one of the tables that had been empty and clean the entire time we waIted. We ordered and waited. When the food come out is was cold like, it had sat a while. The rice that should have come wIth my meal was not there. I was told it would be out shortly. I waited and when the server came to check on us I reminded him that I had not received the rice. He promptly brought it out but it to was cold. We have been eating at OBN restaurants for nearly 20 years. The food has been good and the service generally pleasant. On 4-22-21 we decided to go to the Newark, location. We had recently moved nearby and wanted try out this location. We arrived at a little after noon, the restaurant had no booths available so we were seated at a table near the door. It wasn't really crowded but took a while for our server to get a menu to us and a drink order. We got our drinks and finished deciding what to have and then waited what must have been at least 10 minutes to get our order taken. The waitress was nowhere in sight. Finally she showed up and took our order. In the next 35 minutes we saw her once as she quickly dropped of another drink without a word. While we were waiting for our order we saw two other groups of people enter and be seated in booths across from us. They had been there about 15 to 20 minutes and I looked over at their table and they were eating their lunch which included fried fish. I tried to locate the waitress and a few minutes later was able to flag her down and I asked where our order was. Her answer was, it will be out soon. I told her it had been about 45 minutes and that customers who came in long after us were already eating. Her reply, there was a ticket mix up in the kitchen and she walked away. No consideration at all to us. No apology for the wait. Not even an offer for a freebie to go for the time we had to wait. My wife and I got up and passed right by the waitress to leave and not even a word from her. If this is her typical behavior, she will be more of a detriment to this company than an asset. We've been to OBN well over a hundred time and now they have lost our business!!!! Not going back! My time and money doesn't deserve this treatment. Neither does yours! read more

Great atmosphere & a ton of food for the money. The classic signature item-fish & chips are wonderful! The onion rings are huge & very tasty. I have had the chicken cobb salad a few times & it is always fabulous. I was skeptical about the marinated pink onions but they actually give the salad a unique flavor. Wish giving 0 stars was an option. First time I went with family, my pasta wasn't cooked correctly. It was underdone and gummy. Second time going, my mind was blown and I thought to myself "wow I was wrong about this place". Third time, got fish and chips again and third time was not the charm )= shortly after finishing my meal, I began to feel sick and got food poisoning. I read reviews saying this has happened to other customers and sadly I got to experience that. Aside from the food, each time I have gone the interactions with the employees haven't been great either. Under Covid, was seated at a dirty table, had a waitress with no mask. Wine glass was dirty. They allowed a maskless family in to dine. The median age of the clientele was about 45, and at 6PM, the loud headbanging music was a bit too much. They were out of the only steak they serve. Decided to go to an empty bar and eat to be turned away because we had kids (10 and 16). Back towards the line we went when a staffer grabbed us and said please sit at this high top. I thought great until after 1 minute sitting we were told to return to the front and sign in. We decided to walk, right out the door and go down the street for some good wings and treatment at Rooster's. This place is OK. It's a fancy bar with food. The food is pricey and some of it is very bland. The best thing on the menu is the fish and chips. We have gone for the all you can eat shrimp for $13.99 and after your first basket, you are brought out two shrimp at a time. We didn't receive any more cocktail sauce or lemons. To start I have gone to several OBoN's and had loved them all. Being from Newark and knowing the building they moved into plus the reviews I read a I was extremely nervous. We got there. The wait was 15 minutes for 2 and a baby. Everyone was courteous. Once we sat everything was amazing. They had Guinness which is hard to get in this area on draft. We had the sauerkraut balls, fried pickles and wings. (Buffalo flavor, which were to hot for me, but perfect flavor.) I have been going to OBoN for about 12 years now and I am glad to say that they lived up to my expectations. The real perk to this place is the happy hour, although not as good as it used to be, 2 dollars off is still good. And for 3 huge appetizers and 2 Guinness for right around $25. Frequent customer of franchise, first time at this location, which has seemed doomed ever since Casa Lupita left its curse . . . Gluten free menu arrived crumpled up. No crayons for the kids. Server did offer us some of her extra pens, but we had it covered. . . Server not knowledgeable about gluten free and tried to answer questions with a guess rather than finding the answer. Appreciate her wanting to be helpful on the spot, but when you have food allergies, you NEED TO KNOW THE ANSWER. Seven in party, 6 orders came out, took another 10 to get my aunts food after flagging someone down to ask. The kids meals "with no bun" for gluten free, both had buns. The fries on another order that were requested to be "anything but steak fries," were steak fries. The "fried corn" is those frozen pieces of corn cob you can buy in the grocery store, browned in a pan. The broccoli had brown spots inside. The salmon was "medium rare" which I'd probably be okay with, if it had been good. Very fishy and not fresh. The manager passed our table several times, but never stopped. His face had that grumpy look from the "frequent-pub-goer" guy they use on their signs and menus. Kind of like Max from Max & Erma's, but instead this guy hated his job and was probably thrilled his name wasn't on the sign. The wait staff all seemed overall disgruntled or embarrassed. Came here on a weekday at about 11:30 and it was pretty dead. An hour later a few more groups came in, but I was surprised how few people there were for a weekday lunch hour. Lousy service and overcooked fish We went for lunch today (Thursday 10/3/19 at 11:30). I ordered the Hob Nob lunch special. When we were seated, the young man asked for our drink order. I asked for water and my friend for a diet coke. 15 minutes later, we got our drinks. We waited for a waitperson so we could order our meal but saw no one. We saw a young woman go by twice but she never stopped. After another 10 minutes, the same man who seated us, came to take our order. My friend ordered a BLT and I ordered my fish sandwich. The special comes with a drink or a chocolate milkshake. I ordered the milkshake and asked for it right then. Another few minutes, and our waiter came to say they had to go get more milk for my shake. Our meal came out, still no shake. The BLT looked wonderful. My fish sandwich was so overcooked, roof shingles would have been less dry. Absolutely the worst lunch. We got to the restaurant a few minutes before 11:30 and left at 1:00.
