I have been a patron of Lee's for almost 20 years and relied on them to ensure quality flowers and quality deliveries. They lost my business today. I called today to check on the status of flowers for my mother. Given some prior issues, I wanted to be sure that nothing happened and the order would be delivered. You'd have thought I asked them to cross the Red Sea. As I expected, the order had missing items and I called back. Instead of listening to me, the person was too busy talking over me. I asked to speak to a manager and instead of connecting me they tried to blow me off by suggesting that I write an email. In the recent few years, there have just been too many issues. This review is for the Union Station outpost. Not only was the small all tulip bouquet quite pricey the service was poor and wrapping is $5 extra. I had to request a flower food as that is not included . Without wrapping of course the wet flower stems broke through the bag. So much for presentation. I will preface this by saying I hate flowers. I go to Lee's for the houseplants and that's it. I've walked past the shop a few times and opted not to stop in because of the name but saw a cute birds of paradise in the window and decided to poke my head in. It's primarily a flower shop but they do offer a Good selection of houseplants for those new plant moms out there. The reason I LOVED this place was the "happy hour" they have on Fridays! Every Friday (I forget the hours) houseplants are 20% off and flowers are 50% off! If you know how expensive houseplants are...you'll appreciate the discounts. I also love that the shop is black owned (I don't think there are other black owned nurseries in the city) and it's been in it's location for quite some time. I love supporting local family owned businesses and the staff at Lee's treated me like family the moment I walked in. I'll definitely stop back in during one of the happy hours to continue to fuel my plant obsession. read more

Extremely disappointed with this flower shop and the reviews associated. I'm based in Los Angeles & was using yelp to find a trusted, high-quality florist in the D.C. area. I came across Lee's Flower shop & based upon reviews, selected them. That being said, I'm now writing my own review for future customers so they can be aware. I've attached two images of the flowers that I thought I was getting versus the flowers that were delivered as a gift. The recipient sent me the picture as a "thank you" and I was taken aback at the lack of flowers that were delivered versus what I was told I was receiving. I decided to call & explain the situation on the phone. The gal on the phone tried to be as helpful as she could but management was pushing back. They offered to make it "right," but asked to pick up the old arrangement. I wasn't asking for a full, brand new arrangement, but I asked for compensation for the lack of flowers that were received (e.g. another smaller arrangement with different flowers to make up for it). They wouldn't compensate without picking up the old arrangement, which put me in a terrible position with the recipient (who was receiving for a birthday) to have to ask her to leave the flowers out so they could pick them up & then bring another arrangement later. So beyond unacceptable; I have never heard of this in my life. Bottom line, we didn't do this, as it is inconvenient and tacky for me to even ask the recipient to partake. The reason they were delivered in the first place was because of work schedules, etc. I wouldn't order from here as you will not be receiving what you think you're getting, AND worse, they won't compensate. First off, let me start by saying Jeff was very helpful, kind and personable. I'm new to the area. I've never been in to Lee's but I wanted to support the business being Black owned. Marquita greeted us. I mentioned I own an event and floral design business and was entering a portfolio building contest and needed some stems and asked her if it would be okay that I take some action shots of myself to gather content for my page. She said "sure." I began to look around the shop and found what I needed. Bought 2 vases, a book and a bunch of flowers. As my husband (professional photographer), was taking photos of me. Out pops a head from the back room of who...I guess was the owner. She never properly spoke or introduced herself. She abruptly asked "y'all out here taking pictures of flowers!?" No not solely of the flowers, just action shots of myself picking up and holding the flowers I'm buying. Is it that deep? Instead how about you introduce yourself and get to know your clients. After all, you are in a customer service oriented field. I then over hear this same lady in the back area yelling to her employees "if they're taking pictures they need to tag us in them!" What makes you think we wouldn't? We made a huge effort to ask before any shots were taken, if there was problem or a policy in place that limits then you should communicate that with your employees ahead of time and not in front of guests. There were about 4 other workers, they all walked past us at one point. No one else spoke or even made eye contact. I stopped and stared just to see if anyone would say anything. Nothing!!!! Retail 101: When you're within a certain number of feet from guests, the proper thing to do is to greet them! It's really not that hard. I'm actually taken a back, my feelings are a little hurt bc I expected so much more. You would think a flower shop would be light and welcoming, not this one. Instead we were left to feel like gum on the bottom of a dirty shoe. Very disappointed. Jeff suggested another floral spot for wholesale. Good bc I won't be returning. Just missed out on an opportunity. I could've used this as one of my go-to's. But nevermind. As black women we have to do better, the snarky comments and eye rolls from a distance were uncalled for & inappropriate to anyone coming in to your establishment, especially paying customers. read more

Came in for a wedding bouquet somewhat last minute- and they made something beautiful! I had the color request from a friend on what they wanted, but was pretty clueless else wise. One of the employees was super helpful in helping me put something together. I really like that they sold flowers by the stem, made it easy to pick and customize. Ended up having a beautiful white roses, baby's breath and eucalyptus bouquet for about $30. The whole thing only took about 20 minutes. I recently visited Lee's and had a wonderful experience. When I walked it the stores ambiance isn't like a botanical garden but more of a warm issue of home and garden. The young lady that helped was very warm and even picked out the bouquet I ended buying. I would like to start off by saying that it's very easy to rate a business when everything goes right, but that it is important to mention how a business handles itself when things go wrong. I went to Lee's Flower Shop to purchase flowers for my father's funeral and they were very efficient and helpful with the flower selection process as well as curating a casket spray that I felt would truly honor my father. The flowers were promptly delivered in time for me to view them during the first viewing that occurred the day before the service and unfortunately the flowers included in the spray were the wrong color. We were able to call and let the shop know about this error and the next morning, someone from the shop came out to the funeral home to swap out the sprays as well as beautifully arrange the special order flowers that were arranged in the wrong color spray prior to the early morning service. The flowers that were included in the corrected spray were absolutely stunning, way better and fuller that the flowers included in the incorrect spray and I could not be happier with the overall result. Mistakes happen, but how a business responds is soooo important and they far exceeded expectation. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone that needs a florist. read more

I know it seems cliché but I have been really into house plants the past few years. I lived in a dark basement for a couple of years and since then I have been attempting to surround myself with greenery. Lee's has been on my radar for awhile but not nearly as long as it's been around. It opened in 1945 and has not only stood the many tests of time but has adapted with the times. House plants, including succulents aren't isolated to a corner in the store but rather, they are all through there! If you want to go big are start small, Lee's is the place to pursue that. They also carry a selection of micro-batch soaps and stationery so that makes this place perfect for a gift to yourself or someone else. I am in the market for a bookcase so whenever I take care of that I will make my way to Lee's for another plant I'm sure. read more
