I would never write a review without giving the business an opportunity to correct things. I asked Left Coast three times and they have ignored me completely. Long story short I feel entirely mislead. I was quoted $3,500 for work. After waiting longer than the whole project was supposed to take I was told, for the same work, it would be $10,000 and that they had moved far enough down the path that no matter what I had to pay $7,500. This was not due to changed circumstances, I was told it was because I was quoted the wrong price. After more than 2 months without my truck I finally got it back having paid more than twice what was quoted for the same work. But the story doesn't end there. I got the truck home and almost immediately it was leaking from the very work they had just done. I asked them to take a look several times and they ignored me. read more

When I needed a diesel mechanic, I looked at several in the region. I was worried about the really horrible negative reviews that I saw, until I realized that simply everyone has their critics here in yelp-land, so I started calling around and felt very comfortable with how my inquiry was handled by phone at LCD, so they got my truck as a result. Truck is now back and it works properly. Since I'd done my research ahead of time, nothing that they told me surprised me about my 199k 2006 F550 6.0 - these engines have their issues and are job security for diesel mechanics nationwide. What's impressive is how good it feels now that it's working properly. Very happy to have a full-power truck that doesn't have fueling issues any more. Staff was enthusiastic and they seemed to be a team that were working together, not independent people each on his own clock/each with his own toolbox and bay. I was asking dumb questions in the yard with the hood up, and everyone came over for a look and a little jawboning - which I liked the feel of - people were relaxed and seemed happy to be there. There did not seem to be any issues that I could see at all. The entire experience was clean and by the book. I'll happily go back. Good work at fair price - it was expensive, but it's not a Honda, and the truck earns money and more than earns its maintenance expenses for me. Give them a call or go by. I have a 2005 f250 6.0 diesel with 95,000 miles on it I inherited from my father. In 2017 my father saved up his money to get his truck studded and have some parts added on there from the leftcoast diesel before he retired . The truck only had a little over 85,000 miles at the time with no problems or LEAKS whatsoever, my dad foolishly spent over $16,000 with left coast diesel to have his truck studded new turbo oil cooler and radiator my dad never drove the truck as much as he should but started noticing a few oil leaks a year or two later after the truck went out of warranty we have taken the truck there multiple times for Curtis and every time it came back still leaking I now had a leak on my timing chain cover and on my turbo which that is not the bigger issue the bigger issue is my truck is now in the shop at another shop with a blown head gasket due to improperly being torqued down Now getting it fixed and also getting new o-ring cylinder heads from a reputable shop , I will never take my truck or Recommend anyone to take their truck there after going and working on myself i've noticed how poor the work is they performed not even putting back all the bolts in my vehicle such as my fan shroud only had two bolts in it if I can get this place zero stars I would I feel they took advantage of my father who is a senior citizen and didn't drive his truck very much below is a picture of my blocks cylinder deck read more

Haven't been on Yelp for a while and was reading some of my past reviews Just an update to my review written a few years back about left Coast diesel in Livermore ca, I still drive my truck over four years later And still no sign of catastrophic cross-contamination that the guys at left Coast diesel assured me that I had going on, that my truck was on it's last legs and would never make it to Oregon. I've since learned quite A bit about the 6.0 ford engines. There are many other tests that they could've performed on my truck to test and verify the health of certain systems, but not as dramatic as what they did, I'm more convinced than ever that they were out sell me about $10,000 worth of work that I didn't need. I honestly have only ever had good experiences here, 3 separate times I've brought my trucks here. Pretty thorough, enlightened me on some issues I wasn't aware of but also the tech missed a couple little things I found later on, not things it was even there for, just tips possible maintenance for the future. Overall always honest, and there for you, the customer. I stopped by a couple hours before close today on a Friday, my thermostat housing had a loose fittting and was seeping coolant, within 30-45 min they had me back on the road for free, they were really busy too. Just spend 10k on my 7.3 rebuild that took many months, and visits that were unfortunately disappointing. I do not leave negative comments but I would not go to this shop even if it were across the street from my house. I saw the negative comments before I chose the shop but gave them a chance anyways. Made the mistake of driving an hour to use this shop for a good amount of (basic) work on my 7.3. Took a month and a half!They never put my plastic engine cover back on (as pictured), had a battery terminal lose enough to lift off and a valve cover on the passenger side leaking rather obviously (2 loose bolts on it) and a can of brake cleaner still sitting in my engine bay. Took a month and a half with no communication other than it will be done "Tuesday" every time I called (4 "Tuesdays" in a row). I wouldn't mind but considering they charge $160/hr (and boy will they charge you!!!) I could have went to a gas mechanic and had better service. Their website says they are for "light" service repairs and intended as an alternative to oil and fuel filter changes rather than paying dealer prices (key words that I ignored). Yes, they warranty their work but if you can't do it right the first time why the hell would I drive an hour for a second time and another 2 weeks in the shop with no truck? If you read this comment and have work done to your diesel afterwards all liability is on you! read more

I was going to the Concord location for a while before my EGR cooler went out. Due to the hills on the way to Concord I decided to see if I could limp my 2006 f450 to the Livermore location. It's also maybe 10mins closer to San Mateo depending on the time of day. It made it. One week and $9,000 later my truck worked again (yeah, it's an expensive job but until Ford fesses up that the stock egr cooler is a design flaw, owners will be paying for them). I think it took about a week to complete the job. It's a pretty involved job and just about the entire engine has to be taken apart to clean the old damage and leaks out, and the replace the egr components with either big dog or bullet proof components, I don't remember which I got. I've driven about 10,000 miles since it was replaced. It runs great. To make matters worse, just before the egr cooler went out, my alternator went out. That was $800 bucks due to upgrading to a higher amperage (the truck carries a camper and the charging system takes over charging to the rv batteries) it works great but the day I picked up the truck from that was when the egr cooler symptoms began. That messes with your mind. But I've been back since and no more stuff has gone wrong. I worked for 30 years in the repair industry so I'm pretty familiar with breakdown frequency. Once one thing goes, others often follow. Todays trip was just oil and fuel filter replacement with a little Archoil put in because it's awesome and worth the cost. The staff is professional and courteous. I'll keep going back. read more

Brought my 2005 F-350 in to LCD for the 6.0 fixes: Stuck turbo, Oil cooler & headgaskets. Rob & the crew at Left Coast performed the work on time, the truck runs like new and I can't wait to do some serious towing. I decided to trust LCD with this expensive overhaul because they were experienced with all of the 6.0 Powerstroke issues, associated repairs AND the work was less than what Ford quoted. I plan to update this post after I put some serious towing miles on this rig. UPDATED REVIEW: 4K miles later and after long distance towing of large boats (really large - triple axle) and the truck is running like new. The work was not cheap but LCD knew what they were doing and I am expecting to get the miles that I expected to get when I originally purchased my F-350. read more

I brought in my 2003 E 350 7.3 power-stroke on a "limp in" adventure... The crew gave a through estimate of what they thought the issues ( plural ) were and I agreed to the costs.. Communications were very reasonable while my rig was in the shop. I had expressed to them that I make my living out of the rig ( i'm a GC) and to please consider ANYTHING that I should do to it while it was in their care. As expected with 190 K miles, they had a few suggestions as they reassembled the fuel delivery system; IE injectors, pump, filters, tank, etc.. I picked up the van with glee and headed home.. However, 3 miles from shop a problem developed and I returned to to shop for a heart to heart consult... They took the van back into the shop and found a defective NEW part they had installed and an additional problem w/ the fuel pick up in tank... The added repairs were done in a timely manner and they refused my offer to pay for part of these unforeseen issues. After driving this van for 19 years I have NO qualms paying West Coast for the service they provided. In fact, I thanked them profusely for the work they did that allows me to go to work every day... I dont have any confidence in this shop. They constantly gets the truck. Throws parts at the problem that doesn't resolve the situation. Pay the bill. Drive away. Bring it back the next day because it throws the same codes. In the shop for another Month yet another $1500 more for labor. Ordered the incorrect part then say the correct part is $2000 more. This truck is only worth about $10k. I would never had tried to repair it if I new it would be $3500. So Far. read more

I definitely should have paid more attention to the negative reviews before bringing my truck in. When I dropped my 97 12 valve off I explained to them in plain ENGLISH, the lock up issues I was having with my 47RE transmission. I told them I had ALREADY replaced the noise isolator AND speed sensor, to no avail. So what does there "12 valve expert" do? They have him replace the same EXACT noise isolator & speed sensor using the existing wiring I had just installed AND charged me HOURS in labor for a less-then 30 min job. They promised me they drove the truck for a couple days & that the transmission was shifting properly. Against my better judgment I paid the $700 bill they gave me for installing these (2)$15 sensors. As you can probably predict by now..the truck didn't make it half a mile down the street from left coast before my transmission started having lock up issues again. I went back, they didn't seem surprised to see me. They said it would cost thousands of dollars for them just to drop the tranny. (I want what they're smoking). Id give them 1 star but they did end up refunding PART of the bill back, however in retrospect I probably should have just called my credit card company to deal with them. The owner actually knows his stuff but he can only do so much so I suspect he hires minimum wage techs to keep costs down like many of the diesel shops left in Cali. LONG story short, J&H performance up north dropped my tranny for less then what left coast charged to replace 2 sensors. J&H almost immediately found the problem where some wiring had rubbed through (thanks to a shoddy initial install by the crooks over at browns diesel). My truck has been running like a top since then, I enjoy driving my 97 more then my 2015/2020 rams now! read more

I'm from Washington, but I was visiting several friends in the bay area where I use to live. I sprung a leak in a head gasket on the way down due to an overheated Duramax. I knew I couldn't make it home in this condition. Left coast diesel was recommended by another Mechanic in San Jose. The head gaskets had to be replaced. While the heads were off they went ahead and did a complete valve job. As it turned out the valves were shot and had to be replaces along with the valve guides. This added to the expense, but was worth it. I had ARP studs and trick head gaskets installed as well. The mechanics did an outstanding job. The price tag was a bit scary, but you pay for good work. I have a 2001 Dodge Ram. It's a beater truck that sits most of the year and then gets a serious workout towing way too much at altitude during the hottest part of the year. I bought it in for a routine valve adjustment and asked them to diagnose an overheating issue. I knew going in that I was every shops dream customer. They could have told me almost anything was wrong with the cooling system, but they were completely honest instead. They made the routine tests, and noticed the radiator was very dirty. They cleaned it out and let me know that it was most likely only that. On top of that, they repaired the original battery terminals and did a top notch job! (I've been in electronics for most of my life) The connections were properly soldered and heat shrinked the way the SHOULD be done - no hack job here. A very nice surprise. They billed me for that work of course, but at a totally fair rate. In summation - great guys, great work! read more

I have to say without hesitation that the owner and the counter guy are total scammers! I have had nothing but problems after I took my Excursion to their shop! After asking to get a shift solenoid! I was told that the whole tranny was bad and needed to be replaced, along with the wiring harness for the glow plugs. I agreed with that thinking that they knew best! But to my surprise it has lead me and my wife on a journey that I would not wish upon anyone else! First of all the markup on the parts are 100%. They never bothered to show me any of the parts to explain what and why they needed to be changed! Then after getting my vehicle back it later died! I was was informed by the shop once again that it was my alternator! So I brought it back! Big mistake! I showed up early and to my surprise it was still draining off the battery even with a new alternator! Come to find out that it was the wires that they had taken off and not reassembled properly! They charged me five hundred dollars for their mistake. But the best one is that I contacted them to tell them that there was a noise coming from either the transmission or the rear end! I had my wife take it in and the owner tells her that it is my front end! I trusting the word of the owner I agreed to get it fixed! I was later called to let me know that my front hub and ball joints were fixed! But the main problem I went in there for was still there and it needed to be sent out! The hustle was on! The work they did could have been done in my driveway on my day off! But I know nothing about rear ends! Now after all that was done and the arguments that took place with the owner, I now find the work they did have lead to more issues! The front hub they fixed( or whatever) has now caused the seals in my front axle to start leaking! I have more oil leaks now than before I first went there. They will rip you off if you don't call them out! I'm a blue collar guy who takes pride in the work I preform! I expect that in return from the men who do work on my car that transport my wife and five kids! At this point I wouldn't let that shop change a tire on a Big Wheel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

Due to many of my friend's recommendations I took my truck to Left Coast Diesel in Livermore for the first time; and I have nothing but great things to say. I towed my truck in, which of course I'm thinking worst case scenario... I was met by many smiling face including the boss, the advisor Rob, Austin the technician and the super cute shop dog. I was instantly put at ease about the issues that were going on with my truck and no matter the issue it was going to get handle and in the time frame I needed, which surprised me knowing there a small shop. Not only did they respect my time frame, they treated me with complete respect, their hourly rate and prices were extremely fair, they also investigated and explained all of my options. Austin the technician was extremely knowledgeable; he let me know everything that was currently going on with my truck, common issues and side effects and things I'll want to look into in the future. I was very pleased to be in the hands of someone who truly knew what they were talking about and that wasn't blowing smoke. I was there for a brief time while they were working on my truck and one of the other techs was RUNNING tools to my truck, it was nice to see that level of commitment.
