My wife had the corned beef Reuben and I had the steak sandwich. Both were delicious. Our waitress was friendly. If you're an eat-at-the-bar type like me, timing matters. The place gets and stays busy early; and seating opens up after 8pm-8:30pm when the seniors go home to watch Lawrence Welk. The Manhatten chowder alone is worth the trip, and I often bring a quart home for later consumption or to gift to a worthy friend. Seafood dishes are all standouts - my favorite being the shrimp & scallop medley. The burgers and grouper sandwich (when they have it) are also solid picks. Ocassional live music by a local artist can liven things up. Not the best place to watch a game though - not in any way a sports bar. Good selection of draft beers and decent house wines. And most of the bar staff nail cocktails. What's not to like? Solid 4 stars. read more

This place is horrible. I wanted to take one of my brothers I served with and his mother out for dinner, as is always our tradition every year around the holidays. From the start, the waitress looked like she didn't want to be there and seemed to get annoyed because my buddy's elderly mother wasn't ordering fast enough. We ordered an appetizer, a round of soup, and some entrees/sandwiches for our main courses. Two or three plates were removed before dinner was served, and then none of the remaining appetizer plates, soup bowls or entree dishes were bussed off of our table for the remainder of the meal, we had to eat around the dirty plates. I ordered the 16 oz ribeye, and politely requested for it to be cooked medium rare when asked. The steak arrived cooked medium well/well done - grey on the inside and charred on the outside. Even though it was completely overcooked, it was also cold to the touch, which to me, was an impressive feat. I brought it to the server's attention, and she said she'd bring it to the cook's attention and bring me another steak. About 15 minutes later she comes back with a steak that was charred on the outside and raw on the inside... very passive-aggressive behavior from the staff for me simply wanting the steak cooked how I originally asked it to be. Naturally, I asked her to have them cook it a little more, as it was sarcastically raw and inedible the second time. She seemed irritated, brought the steak back, and then came back with a steak that was again overcooked. Not wanting to exasperate the issue any further I accepted the steak and ate it while my table guests watched (they had already long eaten their dinners by this point). Meanwhile, the dirty appetizer and dinner dishes laid in piles in the middle of the table while the waitress continued to avoid us. After one of their most expensive entrees on the menu was sent back twice, any manager or chef with even a crumb of integrity or pride would have stopped by the table and offered an apology and asked how they could make it right. This of course, never happened, because no one there cares about the customers - clearly. This all adds-up however, as it didn't take long for me to find plenty of one-star reviews on here, and even managers and the owner on here back-talking customers... We really live in strange times, and any establishment that neglects their customers like this doesn't need to be in business (and most likely won't be if this pattern continues). Not everyone who works there is completely oblivious on how to treat customers at least. The hostess was super respectful, professional, and kind, The rest of the staff should take note before the business goes under. What a lousy experience to ruin my once a year tradition with my buddy. read more

While in the area, my family checked this place out for an early Sunday dinner. The parking lot was FULL when we pulled in which is usually a good sign. As the dining room had a bit of a wait, we ended up sitting in the Tavern. Large bar area with happy hour specials with a bunch of tables. It is a bit loud in the area but really relaxed environment which was nice. Service was very slow and definitely was a long wait for all each of courses and our bill. Menu is pretty big and has all day early bird specials on Sunday. Tons of the main entrees are on the early bird special and come with a tea/coffee, salad or soup of the day, and a small dessert (ice cream or rice pudding) for some reasonable prices. I ordered the broiled seafood combo for $16 (usual dish is $30!). They give a pretty good crusty bread to start which was good. The food was fairly average. I did really like the scallops and shrimp as they were seasoned well and tasted pretty fresh but the flounder was pretty bland. It came with side of veggies and a choice of potato. I also got the rice pudding for dessert which was pretty good! I was stuffed by the end and took some of my meal home. Our first time to Lefty's, and what a pleasant surprise!! The main dining area has been re-done, and is bright and airy. The main star here is the food!! We ordered The breaded pork chop, and the pork chop with peaches. The peach sauce was just wonderful. We stopped at Lefty's Tavern, 547 North Main St., Barnegat, on a busy Saturday evening. They have a large parking lot. I surmised by the large number of parties waiting for seats that they must be very good. There was a 45 minute wait for a table for us. I asked if there was available seating at the bar where we could wait. The hostess suggested a high top table where we would also be able to have our dinner. We were immediately seated. We ordered drinks and some fried calamari. Sadly the calamari arrived totally white and a bit undercooked. I had a cheese steak with a choice of six different types of cheese. My son had a burger cooked exactly to his liking, and my wife ordered fried shrimp and received a large portion of almost prawn sized shrimp, fresh & firm. All the meals were enjoyable. Our server was friendly and attentive and I never felt rushed. I opened Lefty's Tavern webpage and saw their quote, "Good food, good prices, very comfortable atmosphere." I could not agree more. We are in the Barnegate NJ area and I have not eaten all day. Went on Yelp and saw Lefty's tavern. Prices seemed decent so off we went. You get a weird vibe at first with a sign saying Lefty's and a large building that is not really appealing. Inside we went and it appears to have been redone in a modern decor. Very clean, plenty of seating and a decent size bar. We were seated by a very nice man who advised us of some good dishes they have. We started off with Buffalo Calamari. The portion was a decent size, they were light and tasty with a very good blue cheese. Andrea had a grouper Reuben and I had the roast beef Reuben. Both were very fresh and delicious. Our waitress Zoe was excellent and very pleasant. Now it's 4:45 on a Wednesday my only suggestion is. Order apps first then order meal which we did. The food flies out, probably a 7 min ticket. This is the second time that I have had dinner at this restaurant and not thrilling at all I do have to say that the fried calamari was pretty good and that's all I'll give it a "pretty good". I got the fried chicken breast with the spadesl and it was terrible it was over fried and the Speziale was fried as well and so crunchy that you could barely eat it. I have to say that the applesauce was Very tasty but all in all I would really recommend this restaurant to anybody. However I would recommend it as a bar the bartender Kevin is amazing wonderful person. We have been to Lefty's often and we always go with at least 3 couples. food has always been great service too. Last night we were there 3 couples when the check came we gave the waitress 3 credit cards, she told us she could only take 2, we said we have been here many times in the past and we always split it between as many cards as there are couples. we asked to see the manager after about 10 minutes this kid walks over to our table and say to us what's the problem so we told him, he had a really bad attitude and told us that they can only take 2 cards per party and its in the book with the drinks that we should of read well we dont drink so we didnt open the book then he hold us that we should of opened it. we asked him what happens if we dont have cash because as you know most young people dont carry cash not in our case but we were curious and he said with his attitude then you have a problem and walked away. We had the cash so that wasn't a problem what the problem was is this kid DANIEL had a horrible attitude should not have been sent over to solve a customer problem he should not be in a job where customer service is involved. I hope the owner reads this and sees what is happening in his business when he is not present and hires someone responsible to run the place. We all agreed we will not be returning anytime soon. read more

Was sat at a table in the dining room. There is a fan above this table. The way the fan was installed between lights makes the light strobe really bad. If someone was an epileptic, they could possibly have a seizure. I don't have epilepsy, but it was really bad and had to be moved to a different table. The sink in the men's bathroom had a faucet that was almost falling off of the wall. I ordered chicken Parmesan. The chicken had a weird texture in some spots. The portion size was good although when they give you two pieces of chicken, you expect them both to be covered with cheese and sauce since it's Parmesan. The second cutlet was under the first so it had no cheese or sauce. Pretty disappointing. Hopefully they will plate it properly next time. On a good note: Their drunken clams are awesome and so is the bread. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. read more

Stopped in around 830PM a few weeks ago & was greeted by an older gentleman bartender that was standing at the bar eating a steak with about 5 people sitting next to him at the bar and he said "can I help ya?" I asked if they were still serving and he said No although nobody looked like they were leaving. Very unfriendly atmosphere so I went to the Pour House which was much friendlier and happy to serve me. Obviously I do not recommend Lefty's. Maybe if they were more welcoming they could afford to renovate the 1980's decor. read more

Second time here. First time was a solid 4. This time, not so much. Bread was day old, second serving was so fresh and good. My issue was I ordered linguine with white clam sauce and what I got was angel hair pasta, when I mentioned this to the waitress, her only comment was I noticed that. What? Why was it served? We came here yesterday, around 4 p.m. The food was delicious and the servers did an EXCELLENT job. We had a big table and our server was amazing, she got everything right, no mistakes, and was super polite. We all loved everything we ordered. It came out on time, it was hot, and no problems with the food or drinks at all. The only problem we had was there was no air conditioning on, and it was 91 degrees outside. We had a table with 3 senior citizens, one pregnant woman, and a special needs teen. It was EXTREMELY hot inside. We asked 3 different servers if the air conditioning was on, and all 3 had the same answer: "um, I don't know about that, but we have fans on". Fans? There were maybe 4 small fans on, not the big ones, and at one point, we had the server face the fan right at the older family members, it was that hot. I will definitely come here again, but never at the summer time. It was very uncomfortable. If the air conditioner isn't working, please please please let the people know, fix it, or don't open.
