Been to Lefty's twice. Once for lunch and once for dinner. Place is always busy. Have not been able to secure a seat at the bar, but we always get a hi top adjacent to the bar. Cocktails are on the mark. Service is very attentive. Portions are large, food is typical tavern menu. Ive enjoyed the calamari, the burgers and especially the pork chops. Atmosphere is typical neighborhood vibe. Great place to watch a game. Decent beer and wine selection. Bar room is lively. If you want a more quiet experience, I would recommend the dining room. If going with a party of four or more I would definitely suggest a reservation. read more

Visited Lefty's Tavern and had a pretty good experience overall. The standout appetizer was definitely the fried calamari. It was perfectly crunchy, well seasoned, and had just the right amount of salt. Great appetizer! For my entree, I ordered the Salmon BLT, which was a Lefty's recommendation. Unfortunately, it fell a bit flat for me. Maybe the lefty recommendation symbol gave it too much hype and because of that I thought it would've impressed me more. Also my mother noticed that the salmon wasn't fully cooked in the center. I also tried the Thanksgiving dinner. The turkey was white meat, my dad really wanted dark meat and he said this could've been better but it was still good and enjoyable. What really elevated the experience was the service. Attended a friend's baby shower here, and they had such a lovely private party room. We have a set menu to choose from with a salad, a few entree choices, and dessert. My huge portion of pasta primavera was delicious. Our server seemed a bit overextended balancing the party room and her other tables, so service wasn't as attentive as it could've been - but she was doing her best! Came here to celebrate my father in law's birthday. We had reservations and were promptly seated in the bar area. Our waiter was very attentive and friendly. The bread they serve is amazing. My mil and I split the stuffed avocado. I was skeptical about combining avocado, crab, mozzarella, and balsamic reduction but it was very fresh and tasty. I had the chicken cutlet sandwich with sweet potato fries. The cutlet was a little dark but it wasn't burnt. My husband had grouper francese over penne which was good also. Lefty's was so nice. The decor is clean and modern. The waiter was really nice and accomodating. My companion had a chocolate martini that she loves to get whenever she goes to Leftys. We shared the pretzel app which came with a tasty honey mustard and queso. Both good. I had shnitzel, which was sort of a fun thing you dont see on menus. It was buttery. Very nice. A bit flat today. I haven't had the penned alarm vodka with the grilled chicken in quite some time. I was excited to stop by. The parking lot was full and so was the bar. A good vibe. My meal came and the flavor was a bit different than i remembered but it was still tasty. Unfortunately my meal was served with a small bay leaf that I almost swallowed, but the finale was a piece of grill brush attached to my chicken. I immediately alerted the manager Jen. I received a replacement with less chicken. The experience did interfere with my overall appetite. So I packed it to go. I ordered a dessert to go, the chocolate lava cake to go ala mode. Hopeful that i will get it home before the ice cream melts as I waited for the waitress to return as she dropped the bill with the dessert. Yikes almost 10 minutes has gone by and still waiting...I went to the front to pay just to leave, and was told I couldn't settle without the with server who wasnt anywhere in sight. Without a doubt, they serve the best, most flavorful Manhattan style clam chowder in all of southern NJ. Prove me wrong... Lefty's has a full menu and specialty seafood items that will tickle and sate even the most discerning palate. We had a group of eight, restaurant was packed, but service was still outstanding and like we were the only one's in the place. All of the food was hot, fresh, and delicious. Their chicken cutlets are so good, don't know how they get them so crispy and delicious. The stuffed avocado, sweet and sour calamari, and clams casino were great. French onion soup was delicious. I've been several times to this restaurant and it's nice to see rotating specials that always seem to hit the mark, both food and adult beverages. Their chowder (award winning!) was also so tasty the first time I tried it that I ordered several more to take home with me. Food - we got 3 soups and share everything. The lobster bisque was meh. Id rather canned. The french onion soup and manhattan clam chowder were yum. My Dad seemed to like his cioppino, and Mom her prime rib...besides green string beans, 1 yellow wax bean, and one cailiflour floret. Not bad, just odd. My stuffed chicken was delicious, and the proportions were huge, but the penne surrounding it was straight out of the strainer/colander. No sauce. Im reheating it now and had to fancy it up with my own EVOO, basil and tomato and salt. Service - the bus boys didnt bus. I thought our waitress was lovely and saw she had 2 big tables, including us 3. We ordered a $7 coffee we did not get,so I went up and had the host remove it. No big deal. Very Disappointing Meal Tonite! We ate here for the first time right after Christmas and had a terrific meal. Everything was delicious and well made. We brought guests tonite expecting much of the same and were sorely disappointed. I spilt a Caesar Salad with my husband. It had so much thick dressing on it, neither of us could finish it. I had the Spicy Seafood Scampi Special. There was no taste of lemon, it contained tomatoes and there was no spice. The meals were delayed as the waitress told us they were backed up. We didn't mind. However, my dish must have been sitting under a heat lamp as the shrimp and lobster were tough and dried out, and the noodles were overcooked. My husband had the shrimp and scallop dish, which I'd had previously and thought it delicious. He wasn't please with it and said it was just OK. The only positive comments my gracious friends made were that the sweet potato fries were good. We have no plans to go back anytime soon. read more

We come here often, both to dine in and for takeout. One of the featured items tonight was "build your own" cheeseburger. Not my usual order, but it sounded really good. I ordered a medium-well burger and was looking forward to my first bite only to taste a completely burned piece of meat. It was like biting into a piece of charcoal. They thought they could disguise the burned meat with melted cheese, but it was obvious and inedible. Whoever cooked this burger knew it was ruined and overdone, yet instead of cooking another one, they boxed it up for us to take home. It was early in the dinner hour on a Saturday and not nearly as busy as a typical week night at happy hour time. Congrats on ruining a regular customer's dinner and being too lazy to cook another burger. read more

So my Dad and big sister celebrate the same birthday.My oldest sister not the one in the picture and I treated our Mom and Dad and our other sister showed up for a glass of vino and birthday creme brulee!!We started with the drunken clams amazing and clams oregano.All of us ordered the same dish my sister and I upped ours for a side salad that was a nice size but very simple spring mix with some croutons and a few onions I love a salad! The meal of choice was the shrimp and scallop medley we ordered with extra spinach and no sundried tomatoe's very good and generous amount of seafood and artichoke's.My mom enjoyed her rice pudding and everyone left with very full belly's and to go box's. Saturday night walked in welcomed and accommodated super fast to a great high top in the bar area. Sweet Natalie was our amazing server for the night she was quick, smart very cute and made for an all around great night along with her side kick Riley who helped for any requests that we needed. Tonight I went to Lefty's Tavern. I realized it was crowded. The hostess & manager asked if we wouldn't mind sitting at a high top. That wasn't an issue. The issue was that we waited at least 15 minutes for the server to come to our table and acknowledge that we were there. But the server went to another table that came in after us and took their order. That's when we decided to leave. I told the manager that I was not happy with the service. Instead of apologizing he was very rude and said that they were busy and trying their best. All I asked for was a sincere apology and I didn't get it. Very disappointed. read more
