They handled everything and had people for plumbing, tiling, painting, electrical. Everything was handled for us with minimal involvement other than picking out materials. It was one of the easiest experiences where we picked out what we wanted in their showroom and had their project manager coming to the house to review progress on a consistent basis. With how smoothly the kitchen went, we had KDC fix our guest bathroom where things went just as smooth, and then do a whole renovation of the master bathroom. Similarly, we picked out all of the materials in their showroom and the results were amazing. The quality and craftsmanship is very detailed, with new cabinets, tiling, moving different fixtures to new locations, and installation of everything flawlessly. They even alerted us to a cheaper countertop option that still met our needs. All in all, it seems like KDC worked on half the house and did some in a timely and expert way. Eric came out for the initial consultation and took the vision in my head and turned it into a floor plan that actually worked. A dedicated home theater with media closet, a Pilates studio, a home office, a game area, and a full wet bar with seating and a wall bar, all laid out exactly the way we wanted to live in the space. Shanae then took that plan and brought the vision to life on the interior design side, and the finished space looks better than what I'd pictured. One detail I have to call out: the Pilates studio is accessed through an invisible door. It reads as a finished wall until you open it. It's the kind of build touch that a lot of companies would either talk you out of or execute halfway, and they nailed it, and it gets quite the reaction when showing people the basement because the wall is slated. Gheorghe ran the project and was the definition of a professional. We made a handful of changes along the way, and he handled every one of them with patience and zero pushback. My wife had a number of aesthetic requests throughout the build, and each one was accommodated without hesitation or attitude, that alone is worth five stars. On the theater specifically, they didn't cut corners. Full soundproofing package, a dedicated insulated HVAC run for the room, a hardwired ethernet run to the media closet during rough-in, elevated riser seating with riser lighting, and acoustic panels throughout. The room performs exactly like a purpose-built theater should. Joel, our A/V guy, was outstanding, extremely knowledgeable and thorough getting the 7.2.4 Atmos system dialed in and the room fully tuned. He didn't leave until it was right. I cannot put into words how this movie system sounds and the soundproofing is a must! For context, I've been able to watch movies and give demos at reference level volume without disturbing the rest of the house. I've yet to get a "turn it down" text, and I have a newborn at home. Communication was excellent the entire way through, and the professionalism extended all the way down to the crews on site every day. They sealed off the finished portion of the basement properly so dust wasn't tracking through the rest of the house, and they cleaned up at the end of every single day. I don't have one complaint in the world. Not one. They checked every box for me and -- more importantly -- every box for my wife. I did not have a good experience at all with this company. First, they changed project managers on…read moreme just before they came out to do that work without explanation. When the work started, they moved at a glacier pace with erratic attendance. There were days they did not show up at all, other days they would show up unexpectedly at 7am, and leave at 10am. This was never communicated with me. Next, mistakes started happening. They painted the walls the wrong color. They put up the shower door on the wrong side. They also put up the window blind backwards so I couldn't reach or use the rod to open and close it. After the shower door went up backwards, the project manager fired the workers, but the had no one to finish the work. When they finally came back to fix the shower tiles wrecked when the door went up on the wrong side, they didn't align the replacement tile patterns with each other so the pattern is disjointed and doesn't line up at all. The project manager told me it's not supposed to line up!? After complaining about it 3 times, they finally offered to replace the tiles. But they stalled on ordering them and now it's out of stock. There are also other problems - the shower faucets are not properly secured to the shower walls, the vanity light is separating from the wall and the light switch fixture is also separating from the wall. The floor tile is irregular with grout lines sometimes thick in places, other times nonexistent. Currently, they are not returning my calls or texts. I've even reached out to the owner who came out and promised to fix everything, but commented that I was overly concerned with "small" details. Now he has not returned my calls or texts about when he will come to fix things. Maybe I am concerned with details but I'd think that is common when paying 20k to have a bathroom redone according to an approved plan. At the very least, I expected that shower tile patterns would match up and that things would be well grouted or secured in shower and on walls. This was my first renovation in my first home and I'm so disappointed in how it turned out and how I was treated by the team. Also, this 2 week project took 5 and 1/2 weeks to get to where it is now. Overall the project was done carelessly with no attention to detail and with no acceptance of their mistakes and no attempt to repair the problems identified. I see they have had good reviews in the past, but my project did not go well at all. I would definitely recommend choosing another company. When I first complained they asked me not to write a bad review and I said that along as everything was fixed we had a deal. Nothing has been fixed and they are not communicating with me. I know have to either pay another company more money to fix their mistakes or take legal action to resolve the simple issues that could be easily fixed. If detail and having a project done to your liking is important I would not recommend H&C at all.

We hired CKB to paint the first floor of our "new" house we just bought - a 1970s townhome with…read moreplenty of crown molding and chair rail! But once we scheduled the appointment with CKB, lots of other projects popped up with our old, new house: knocking pipes when the hot water is on, an old fireplace mantle with water damage behind it, a wall-mounted tv that the previous owners stuck right into flammable insulation. But it didn't matter! Quinn, Cherie, and Carlos completed our whole list within ONE WEEK and within our budget. The team painted everything from ceilings to baseboards and covered up the previous yellow and navy blue paint! So, when we had a water…read moreleak resulting in moderate water damage to 1/4 of the basement and some insurance proceeds, we decided to contact CK&B to revisit the basement layout and modernize things a bit. Primary emphasis was a layout that could evolve over time and recapturing some floorspace. Start to finish was 3-4 weeks. This included tearing out popcorn ceiling, wiring in ~11 new recessed lights, new flooring, new kitchenette, small updates to a guest bathroom, painting all the things (including a chalkboard 1/3 wall) and a redesigned fascia for our fireplace. It also included a "secret room" for the kiddo that Quinn took on as a personal project, as we've been juggling complex medical issues for a few years. Needless to say that resulted in a lot of smiles and it has been getting a ton of use. The plywood in the secret room is 3/4" and we plan to add some rock climbing grips to it in the future. Pearl and Monica were easy to communicate with and any issues (ex: some painting needed to be revisited) were handled promptly. They were very flexible with pricing and really went out of their way to make this work for us.
