Came here for a birthday and was seriously blown away with the food and the service. For a somewhat busy Wednesday, we had a great time with our party of 9. We sat in the back room and got our bread right away. The server was such a sweetie!! She knew it was a birthday and kept the bread and drinks coming. Came here on a Friday night with a big group and had a nice time! The star of the show were definitely the appetizers - the spanokopita and the warm feta dip. As a vegetarian, I did appreciate having a lot of options. I had a wrap and it was pretty good, I can't say it tasted especially fresh or special, but it was solid. I recently got takeout from this Omaha favorite. Overall, it was a very satisfying meal. The souvlaki was absolutely amazing--tender, flavorful chicken with garden veggies and tzatziki sauce. My only suggestion would be to include a second piece of pita bread, as one isn't quite enough to balance the amount of chicken and veggies. My husband and I got takeout from Greek Islands Saturday night and it reminded me why I looooove this place so much and why I need to go back more often! I usually love getting the saganaki, but I feel like that's an app that you really need to dine in to be able to experience fully when they light it on fire. Instead we tried the feta sticks with both the tomato and raspberry sauces. I additionally got the vegetarian moussaka - one of my personal favorites! The feta sticks were SO good! There were four to an order and they were super thick and cheesy! The batter was very crispy and satisfying and the salty feta went AMAZING with the sweet raspberry sauce. It was good with the tomato sauce as well, but the raspberry was definitely my choice - I would highly recommend this combination! One of the reasons I absolutely love Greek Islands is because they offer traditional Greek foods as veggie versions, like moussaka and pastichio - something that has been very hard to find at other places. I prefer the moussaka because I love eggplant over mushrooms, but both are delicious and the layer of bechamel really makes both! The flavors are warm and cozy and the serving size is big and very filling. The side salad that comes with most meals is just as good as the meal. You need to add the cheese and olives and order the house dressing!! They have the best portions sizes for meals, salads, and appetizers. They have fresh falafel and an amazing veggie platter. You can peek inside the kitchen and watch the meat cook. I did "takeout" here because I was eating single. I have eaten here with a Greek buddy of mine for many years. The place was very busy at 5:00 PM. I ordered an Athenian Gyro Salad withe extra feta, extra Kalamata olives and extra Gyros slices. What a feast. They included extra Tzatziki dressing. The lettuce base was fresh and an abundance of tomatoes and cucumbers were included. Red onion was also included. I ate until I was stuffed. There are several Greek Gyro outlets in Omaha but none of them can touch the Greek Islands. 5 months ago, I left a review stating this was one of my favorite restaurants...and I raved about the Greek potatoes. Today..."gross" was the only word for the potatoes. We ordered two servings (one with each meal). One order came out and looked gross (one potato was so overcooked that it was black). We had to tell the waitress that she forgot one order. It came out and looked like baby food. It was borderline mashed potatoes. We got there at 6 pm and they close at 7. We obviously were served the bottom of the pan. They should have told us they were out so we could have ordered a different side. Also, I do not recommend the stuffed flounder...extremely small portion. If you go...make sure it is hours before closing. I will not be returning. read more

I always enjoy Greek Islands! It's my favorite Greek restaurant next to Jim and Jenny's. I usually get the same two things but decided to try something new this time. I got the mini chicken gyros. They were the perfect size and packed full of goodness way easier to eat than the big ones. Next time around I would just order a chicken gyro because it is cheaper than the minis but they were still great. My boyfriend got the mad Greek! That will definitely MJ new go-to. So many flavors and - good mix between the meat, lettuce and pita bread. It came with Jalapenos, onions, melted feta and spicy tzatziki sauce. I only want the spicy tzatziki sauce from now on. my other go-tos are the Athenian salad add chicken. I always get the small, which is huge! And the chicken supreme! This little corner of Omaha is absolutely poppin!! This was my first time visiting Greek Islands, and I was pleasantly surprised on so many levels. From the outside looking in, I was a little bit hesitant as to if this would be good or not, but as they say never judge a book by its cover! As soon as we walked in the door I was surprised by how many people were here at 12 PM on a Monday! This place was packed, and I knew I was in for some really good food, it was clear that this is a fan favorite and has been for decades! FOOD : I got the chicken kebabs with rice, salad, and broccoli. My chicken kebabs were delicious! The perfect amount of seasoning, cooking, and not rubbery or fatty at all! That's a big deal for me. I honestly could've had a whole other skewer, they were so delicious! The rice was really good as well, not just basic white rice it had a hint of flavoring that was refreshing and the broccoli was cooked to perfection. The side salad, keep in mind, is nothing more than lettuce in a bowl... So just know that in advance! For all the food I got, $12 was so reasonable and cheap for such a good meal! We also got hummus which was delicious and tasted like they made it in-house which is always good. My sister's got the gyros and my mom got the chicken salad -- everyone was talking about how good their meal was! No one seemed dissatisfied, and everyone was absolutely stuffed! They give you a heaping portion, which I personally love. No one had anything bad to say! SERVICE / ATMOSPHERE : our waitress was wonderful, she was on top of the ball and really helpful. We did feel a little bit rushed but it makes sense because they were very busy! Make sure you get here before the lunch hour rush or you will be waiting for a table! The only reason I gave this place four stars was because it did feel and look kind of dirty. When I went to the bathrooms I just decided not to look at the floors or up at the ceiling and not to peek in the kitchen because I didn't want it to ruin my experience lol... Definitely wish it was a bit more clean but it's an old building, it is what it is I guess. I will definitely be returning to the spot, this is a great place to take anyone - your family, your kids, your spouse or partner, your friends, or even just go by yourself! Today I just decided to pop in here for takeaway dessert. My favorite is baklava so I had to get a piece of that. Last time I ordered delivery from here, I tried something new to me-- KOURABIEDES - A powdered sugar cookie which is eaten as a Christmas treat as well as for other celebrations throughout the year. So melt- in-the-mouth good! Naturally I had to get one of those. Then I also decided to get a biscotta because it looked so different from the crunchy Italian biscotti that I've had from coffee shops. This will go great with my morning coffee, even though it isn't Greek. Service was quick and I was on my way in minutes. Dessert is ready. Took my son and daughter to the Greek Islqnds after my sons graduation. It has been one of my favorite restaurants for a long time living in the Omaha area. While the food was good the service not so much. It wasn't busy at 7:00 on a Thursday just steady. The waitress did not check on us as she should have and she forgot to include a side order so we had to ask for the check to be adjusted. Food is still good and I will come back just a disappointing visit. Overall this visit I would only rate it 3 out of 5 stars in my opinion. I have rated it much higher in past visits. Greek Islands my old friend. Tonight I was in the mood for a gyro so I went to this Omaha staple to scratch that itch. I just have to say meh. Underwhelming, felt the food was a little bland. The French fries need a little more time in the fryer. The seasoning was really lacking. So bland, it was a bit sad really. Service was great everyone was super nice. San Antonio happens to also have a wonderful Greek restaurant with the best gyros. I visit my daughter often, she lives in Papillion on the outskirts of Omaha. In my search for good restaurants I saw a review by a fellow Yelp Elite member. Greek Islands was voted 96 nation-wide as a place to eat, so I went out of my way to try it out. And WOW, it didn't disappoint! I ordered the gyro platter with a side salad and french fries. It was so delicious! I didn't think it would be as good as the place I go to in Texas, but it was. The tzatziki sauce was wonderful, lemony and garlicky. The gyro meat was spiced just right. The portions are huge and the prices are reasonable. One would think that a Greek restaurant would have tasty feta, but one would be wrong. Maybe the owners think they can dupe the dopes in Omaha. The most flavorful feta is Bulgarian or French and it doesn't cost more. Little fruit flies kept circling my plate. Not good. The waitress tried to charge me for two beers. I only had one.
