This amazing place is located in Abilene my kids and I stopped in today and had their famous chicken for a late lunch. Abilene only has Pizza Hut and those guys open on Sundays I highly recommend them now when you go in there is like two restaurants in this one location it's a bit confusing but the front of house and the host was kinda lacking big time on being alert and attentive and some of the tables were not picked up right away and needed to be cleaned and floor vaccumed. The bathrooms were very clean and well kept but lacked paper towels only small things I picked up on. Now the food is made to order hot fresh and ready do not be in a big hurry they are making it by hand fresh it's worth the 20 min wait I am dropping pictures of the food we had and it was absolutely 10/10 and you get A lot of food. Now price wise by bill was 80 dollars so it is a tad expensive but it's fresh made to order and more than plenty to take back home to have another meal to feed your family again so you do get your bang for your buck read more

The fried chicken was a bit overrated since it could use some more seasoning, the breast was a little bit dry. At least the breading was well-seasoned. The sides especially the fruits were overrated to since the pears had a slight mealy texture to it. On the bright side, the mashed potatoes and creamed corn were delicious along with the rolls. The cole slaw was a little too sweet. The ice cream however was not very creamy since there were some ice chunks in it. The dining room was well-decorated with late 19th-century era furnishings and decorations. What a downfall from the old days. Brookville Hotel use to be a place for special occasions....graduations, family visiting, birthdays, etc.. It was an event to go! Now....it feels like a truck stop. Upon entering, there is a leak in the ceiling and half the lobby is roped off. You order at the cash register instead of them actually seating you first. Know what you want to order because hesitation at the counter is frowned upon, they got to hurry for their smoke break, ya know. And the food? Meh. Not the same as before. I think you would be just as satisfied going to Popeyes. I give this place two more years before it is belly up like the current owners previous restaurant Munson's Prime. My wife and I recently stopped in Abilene on our way back from attending social events in KC and had never been to the Eisenhower Museum, which turned out to be an exceptional experience and wished that we had allotted more than the 2 hours we were there (could easily have spent 4 hours, reading of all the wonderful things that Eisenhower did for our nation, during his storied life). We were spending the night in Abilene before returning to Wichita. My wife is originally from Tulsa and moved to Wichita 10 years ago and thus had never been to the Brookville. Over the past decades I had eaten there in their original location and had really pumped her up for the family dinner experience. And since we were headed for the Eisenhower Museum for the afternoon, we first stopped at the Brookville (now Legacy) and asked the hostess how late we should arrive, to be seated, in order to depart the museum in time. She said to arrive no later than 5:30 for their last seating. We arrived at 5:10 and were turned away since they shut down entry to the dining room at 5:00, which the hostess SHOULD HAVE TOLD US. We even shared this with the owner and he just shrugged his shoulders and unemotionally said "I'm sorry but we don't serve any later than our 5:00 seating." GRRRR. I will never go back since they were more interested in going home than serving end of day patrons (especially with only 10 minutes difference in his end result). Now we had to choose another option, of which there are very few in Abilene, based on our Google review search results. We ended up choosing Fuji since my wife loves sushi. We were absolutely delighted about every aspect of our visit to Fuji (clean, efficient, friendly, attentive service and great FOOD QUALITY). So, I was very happy that Brookville's rudeness and dishonesty at the front desk drove us to Fuji. I also noticed that many reviewers note that with new ownership, Brookville no longer serves the same high quality family dinner that they had over many decades in business. Regarding Fuji, I am a former restaurant owner operator with 30 years in the business (very successfully) so I know what it takes to overachieve and Fuji hit on all cylinders. With a Sushi loving wife, we have been to every one of the numerous Sushi restaurants in Wichita (which seem to excel in that category for some reason). I will put Fuji up against the best in Wichita. My wife ordered 3 different varieties of Sushi on their menu and loved every one of them. As for myself, I am not much of a Sushi fan so I always order other entrees on Japanese or Oriental restaurant menus. At Fuji I ordered the Hibachi KC Strip Steak and Shrimp. Here is where the proof in the pudding is. Having served thousands of KC Strips and Ribeyes in my establishments, the one thing I know is that KC Strips are a challenge because they are not as nearly as tender as Ribeyes, so I specifically requested that my KC Strip pieces/chunks be done tender and medium rare (obviously cooked on a flat top). And that the shrimp is not over cooked and tough. On my first bite, I found that they nailed it. The strip pieces were soft and tender and the shrimp as well. They had nicely seasoned rice to with it, along with a very tasty Teriyaki sauce on the steak and shrimp. The entrée was accompanied by sautéed veggies which were perfectly cooked Al dente' with the Teriyaki sauce on them. We also ordered their seaweed salad which was excellent. And had to order their house salad with ginger dressing. It came out in a chilled bowl and the lettuce was ice cold and super crunchy, and the ginger dressing was bright and refreshing in flavor. Bravo to the extreme from one restaurant operator to another. Fuji is the real deal and should be the most popular and most visited restaurant in Abilene. After having spent the night in Abilene before heading to Salina on our way back to Wichita, we scouted multiple restaurants in Salina for lunch and after eating in Salina, we wished that we had headed back to Fuji for a second visit. So, if you are in Salina or Abilene you will be cutting yourself short by not going to Fuji. read more

I guess that changed the name of this place. I remember it as Brookville Hotel. Almost every time I go to Kansas my mother and I will come and have a meal here. Not what it used to be. Overpriced and not worth the trip unfortunately. Food was average at best. Portions are too small now and yet it's priced like it's all you can eat. For the price, it should be all you can eat! Hostess was rude. Asked us if we had a reservation and acted like she was swamped and yet only three other tables of people were there when arrived. Didn't mention the Legacy menu to us, acted as though we had to do the $25 per person family style. Was put off when I brought it up about half of our party ordering off menu. Waitress forgot to take drink order until food arrived. Also forgot to bring us our biscuits. The creamed corn and mashed potatoes and gravy were the highlight. They have cut back on the amount of cream and sugar they use for the cole slaw. Ours was almost dry. Biscuits tasted like they came out of a can. Meat tasted like it was fried in burnt or old oil/grease. For the price, you only get three pieces of chicken or one medium sized chicken fried steak. Ice cream was grainy. Went to tour the upstairs where you see what the hotel used to look like and smelt horrible from cigarette smoke. Someone is living in half of the upstairs now and the smoke smell has overtaken the rest of the upstairs. The bathrooms were clean and nice. Sad to see how far this once treasured establishment has fallen. read more

We have been taking out of town guests here for the chicken dinner, for four years, and it has always been very good, but, our visit on April 17th was quite disappointing. While the service was good, the chicken did not taste fresh, as if it had been sitting for a while, and it seemed to be fried in oil that needed to be changed. The creamed corn was not up to par, and the homemade ice cream had chunks of ice in it. We were rather embarrassed, and apologized to our friends, telling them that the food is usually much better. We arrived shortly after they opened for dinner, so the food should have been fresh. If our out of town guests want to go back the next time they are in town, I hope it's a better experience. read more

Vergie, Kenneth, Frank, and I, took a little road trip, West, for Valentine's Day. Vergie thought we were going someplace in Salina, but we surprised her when we took the Abilene exit, and then she knew we were going to the Famous Brookville Hotel! We had their incredible fried chicken, mashed potatoes and cream gravy, cream coleslaw, cream corn, biscuits and strawberry jam (Kenneth put gravy on his biscuits), and Vergie had cottage cheese and peaches. Desert: Kenneth had cherry Cheesecake, Vergie and I had chocolate peanut butter cake, Frank had chocolate cream pie, and we all had their home made ice cream! Everything was absolutely, incredibly, delicious! Our server, Veronica was fantastic, the cook, Jolina was great, and Daniel was right on top of removing our dirty plates as we were done with them. I thought our dinner was quite good. Delicious chicken dinner with generous portions. They start out quickly bringing very good cream Cole Slaw, cottage cheese, peaches, cinnamon apples, and pickles family style. Shortly followed by the main meal of fried chicken, chicken gravy and their creamy corn. We used to go to Brookville Hotel and I think it was just as good. My only negative is the weird hours and Reservation system. They are only open for a couple hours around lunch and then again 4-6³. You have to choose a "seating time" and they are only open Weds-Sun. Not sure how any place would make it with such restrictions but I'm glad they're back. Maybe things will change with time and increased staffing? Oh, and ALL the servers were GREAT! read more

I 've never been so disappointed in a home town business as I was on this day. Went with friends from out of town after having made reservations, we were on time and seated on time. At the time of reservations we were asked what we would be eating?..I am not a mind reader and could not answer that question for other people, so they put us down as a "?". When we arrived, we were seated and asked what we wanted to eat? None of us have eaten there in years and we were not offered any list or menu, the person waiting on us was also the hostess and her name was Shirley..She rattled off some of the things that were offered as we pulled off our coats and I had to ask again. She was frustrated with us and informed us she had other people she had to take care of ...(REALLY) treat customers like that? She then disappeared and we were already upset with the treatment and I was so embarrassed to have an Abilene business treat others like that. Another waitress overheard us and quickly asked us if we needed anything to drink, again no list or menu...we just ordered softdrinks. This place is so unorganized that waitresses didn't know what food went where, dropping dishes and fumbling them all night. The chicken was horrible according to my friends, greasy tasting, we had two steaks that were actually cooked correctly, but were so tough you could hardly cut thru them. Overall just a terrible dining evening with friends and "Shirley" needs to find another job. The word is out and is spreading quickly about this establishment and the way they treat customers. I truly wish for them to be the best place in the area, but I don't see this happening. People travel from all over to go to this once famous place, and probably leaving very disappointed. read more

I have missed Brookville chicken!! Went Thursday and it was just like always...PERFECT! Wonderful, at home atmosphere. REAL mashed potatoes!! And the chicken I just can't say enough about! Exactly how grandma made it. Creamed corn! Homemade biscuits. And then.....Homemade ice cream!! Remember the ice cream you had from the old ice cream maker? We made a 6pm reservation on line only to find out they didn't check the electronic submissions. In fact, while the website appears to take reservations until 7 on Sundays, we found out they actually closed at 6:30. They took us at 6 but what would have happened if we had made a 6:30 reservation? Then, at shortly after 7 they asked us to finish up and leave because the staff had been there all day. They said we could sit outside on the benches if we wanted to continue to visit. The food was ok. It was with great anticipation that my husband and I returned to the Brookeville Hotel, in Abilene, and I'm saddened to report that our dinner far from met our expectations. The lobby, that used to have a nice gift shop area and welcoming atmosphere, looked like it had just experienced a garage sale and the staff looked like those teenagers made to clean up for the tired adults that had recently left. Furthermore, the lap siding on the ceiling and walls was falling down. The ambiance of days gone by was definitely not there anymore. The walls were missing artwork or any sort of decor except for that of the original wallpaper and tin look ceiling. the The gift shop shelves were bare except for a few shirts and old postcards that resembled stock from the previous owners. We were seated at a nice table with a black tablecloth but the candles in the center (apparently the "centerpiece ") weren't lit. When the food was served "family style" the portions were minimal and our family of six politely shared the portions in order to leave enough for each individual. The main course of chicken was plentiful but the sides were limited in quantity and the hot items were luke warm at best. The chicken was very similar in taste to the Brookeville of days gone by but the creamed corn tasted old, stale and chewy. The biscuits were the size of golfballs and didnt live up to expectations. The homemade ice cream however was excellent! Our young waiter was pleasant and appeared to have been "trained in the script" of how to interact with guests, however an apparent manager was not visible or they might have received my review in person. Overall, the $23 per person was over priced and I believe the new owners are trying to fund the repairs necessary to prepare for vacation traffic next summer. The meat however is not unlimited but the sides are, so you should never leave this place hungry! The staff is always nice, always answers any of my questions with a smile on their face. The meat was hot and the servings were plentiful. The sides were tasty, but not hot enough for me. I like mashed potatoes, gravy and corn HOT. Ours were luke warm and even the second servings were barely warm. The ice cream machine was not working properly and we were served icy liquid. This was our first time at Legacy KS, but we had been to the Brookville several times prior to Covid. It is unlikely we will be back. read more
