Came here with hubby to get the Thai food and was pleasantly surprised given it looks like a coffee place primarily. They had a lunch special for 10.99 which included an entree and spring roll. We ordered the pad see iew and green curry with a spice level of mild and medium since the server thankfully told us the medium was already quite hot. Hubby can handle his heat so he enjoyed the medium but it was too spicy for me. Would come back to try some of the other entrees! read more

Nice, cozy independent coffee shop located in the Kerrisdale region. They have a good selection of coffee and teas available. Additionally, they also offer all day breakfast as well as a variety of Thai dishes. I am just here for coffee and a place to work for a few hours today but I will definitely try the food next time I'm back. I found the environment to be a lot more relaxed than the typical starbucks/tim hortons experience. read more

It's quiet (there's not even background music). It's not obnoxious (homely interiors that somehow just put one at ease). Reasonable prices, decent selection of fresh real food and high-quality drinks. In other words, it's the anti-Starbucks. Not sure if there's Wi-Fi, but I got on Shaw Open there for free. Ordered: -mango smoothie (made with real mango and served in a tall glass with a long milkshake spoon) -cream cheese coffee cake (came with two slices of watermelon) -Mighty Leaf peach tea (came in a mini tea pot with a proper tea cup and saucer) $12 total One pet peeve of mine is when servers don't know even the basics about tea, for example not knowing what is and is not herbal tea. This happens all the time at the majority of coffee and even tea shops, I realise, but it's annoying nonetheless. Legato could stand to further train its staff in this regard, for the sake of all those sensitive to caffeine like me. Overall, this is a hidden gem in Kerrisdale and an ideal spot to get work done -- will definitely be back! read more

Legato is my favourite cafe in Kerrisdale by far. They have everything and more that you're general chain offers; though I prefer their atmosphere with an Excellent tea selection, the staff is great and they always offer fresh food. read more

Oh Legato, what delicious espresso you have! We are talking legit Italian Lavazzo espresso. And so, tucked away in Kerrisdale, in the midst of Bean Brothers, multiple Starbucks, Café Artigiano...this is my go to spot for a legit espresso or Americano. SO GOOD. As for food - always delicious. They make this mushroom soup that makes me weak in the knees. You know, the kind where you're tempted to lick your bowl clean but know that goes against all social propriety...but it's just so damn hard to resist doing it anyway. They also make these incredible homemade granola bars that my boss suckered me in with - I haven't seen them in a while, but gosh they're delicious. I'd definitely say this is the perfect spot to just tuck yourself in with a book and a coffee and spend a few hours people watching. It's cozy, it's quaint, and there's something very welcoming about it. Oh, and don't forget to order an Americano. For real. read more

After many years in a tiny store across the street from Royal Bank, Legato has moved into a larger space just a few doors down from their old location. The new premises offer more visibility (literally) with floor-to-ceiling windows and sidewalk patio seating. Regular drip coffee is serve-yourself style and comes in light, medium, or bold roasts. I'm not a fan of this style of service, since it reminds me of gas station convenience stores whose bad coffee gets badder as it sits there in its own badness. At Legato, however, it's at least drinkable, if not particularly memorable. Quite pleasant to sit here and chat or work on a sunny day, but the new location lacks the coziness and warmth of the old space, or of some of the competitors up the street, for that matter. It may be the high ceilings, the weird multi-level layout, or the colour scheme. I didn't analyze it too much, since I opted to sit outside. Friendly service. I saw this reviewed on the August 3, 2015 front page of Yelp and decided to book mark this for future reference as part of my 100 coffee shops in 52 weeks challenge (I am way over 100 at this point but still counting them as I go). The reason why it took me a while to get here is 'cause they don't publish their hours of operation so I had to take a chance when I had time to gamble.It's also a really far distance to get here, therefore, it was all about just selecting a right time to get here. I was informed that on most days their open until 8 pm. I also made a friendly suggestion to them that it would be helpful to publish these times on their page. The customer service was a bit cold. She seemed as though she was interested in doing anything but assist me. This was a bit of a shame. There was also a slight language barrier. The place is small and homely. Some eats and gluten free treats. I had a London Fog with almond milk and sugar free syrup. The drink was made well. They do have wifi, therefore, worked on my writing a bit. read more

Food is good and price is fair. The only place in town which you can still order a full breakfast of 3 fried eggs, ham with 4 pieces of toast plus coffee with refill for less than $10.00. Albeit, service might be a bite slow but quality of the cooking is hand made and the coffee is good. Highly recommend if you can spare an hour for a relaxing breakfast on a Sunday morning. We came in for the Thai food! What a surprise this was! We thought Legato was just a cafe, but as we were walking by in the evening we saw a sign saying "now serving Thai food", it turns out they've recently hired a Thai food chef and opened Khao Thai Restaurant within Legato cafe. Everything is made fresh to order and tasted delicious, best of all, they accommodate allergies :) at least the chef was able to accommodate mine, which is garlic. The food wasn't too greasy, the chicken tasted like quality, and the salad was delicious. The menu is very nice and so are the staff - it's a ma and pa kind of a place. It's nice to have a Thai Restaurant again in Kerrisdale, we will certainly be back. The only reason I gave it a 4 star and not a 5 is because of the atmosphere, it's a cafe and brightly lit, I'd say it just needs some ambience for people to know that Khao Thai Restaurant is running in there too. I haven't tried Legato for their cafe items and breakfasts yet, but I will certainly be back for the Thai food. It was delicious. read more

This is a great place. Newly discovered by my wife and I. We spend two nights a week in Kerrisdale and this has become our favourite place to go. Such a pleasant change from the corporate café world. Warm and cozy atmosphere and the Matcha Latte is just perfect! It's like having coffee in your own living room. The owner is very friendly and the baked goods are delicious. Made right on the premises. They also do breakfasts and lunches. A real gem! read more
