If you like a beer to go with your view of Richmond then I'd definitely recommend Legend Brewing. In my opinion, it has the best view of the skyline. Beers on the other hand are just mediocre - not much of a variety. I came here on a weekday for lunch and there were plenty of seats on the patio on a beautiful sunny day. Our server was very attentive and friendly always checking up on us and ensuring none of us had an empty glass. The food was nothing spectacular or memorable. We all ordered a different type of sandwich with fries. I personally ordered the chicken burger which came out luke warm. My fries tasted as though they had been cooked a while ago. Although the food was disappointing, the service and view definitely made it a pleasurable experience. I would definitely come back but I'd probably eat before-hand next time. read more

Consider me a regular! I LOVE Legend and am a happy neighbor. While I'm not typically one who runs after the food menu at a brew pub, there are definitely some SOLID options here. My favorite entree so far is the beer cheese philly with portobello instead of meat and it is so succulent and delicious! Other menu items I've enjoyed are the fried pickles (they use a very thick batter and pickle spears), collard greens (this seems to depend on cook, when I went on a Sunday I had literally the best greens ever), smoked salmon salad, brussel sprouts, the French Dip and the Chicken Gyro. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the warm, inviting atmosphere plus the best view in Richmond on their amazing patio (who doesn't). They seriously have the best bartenders in Richmond- so friendly and personable! Onto the beer...I'm honestly not a fan of some of their signature beers, but I usually stick with either the Golden Ale or Tripel, both of which are solid in my book. I'm now a happy member of the mug club, which gets me $2 off pints on Mondays and my own customized mug. Came here because it was labeled as dog-friendly. Couldn't enjoy the more scenic area because dogs weren't allowed there so we were sent to the front of the restaurant where the 91° heat was oppressive and the patio was in direct path of the sun, only a banner flapping in the wind to provide shade. We waited over 7 minutes without so much as a "how y'all doin" or "be right with you" before we decided to choose another place. read more

I had a friend in town visiting so we came last night for a sunset beer overlooking the city. The view is unbeatable and the beer was great! Didn't love the inside ambiance (very loud and dark) but the outside patio was awesome and the staff were very helpful. It's a great way to show off the city to any guests! read more

Not great service. Walked up to the front, no line and nobody minding the front door and since I had a dog, walked up to the patio side for the dog like i always do since I come here all the time with my pup. Funny thing is... the waitress came to check if I needed a server but was rude to me when she found out that I didn't put my name for a table (I sat myself on one of the many empty tables) so told me that because I didn't put my name down, there's an hour wait to get served. But they literally had called additional staff in and is waiting on other tables and two of them walked in by me telling her that they got called in to work. She asked if I was willing to wait an hour (in a rude way) and I said well yeah, I live next door so it's not a big deal. She was a little nicer when she realized that so agreed to get me a beer while waiting and she continued to work other tables and the inside was completely empty. She didn't even get me a menu. I spoke to another server not 10 minutes later and learned that there isn't an hour wait to get food. And he was happy to serve me. He then chatted with her and all of a sudden, she's all super nice again to me. I'm hoping she doesn't spit in my food. I'm not sure how I haven't reviewed Legend yet! Over the past few months I've been here 3 or 4 times and have enjoyed every visit. I've tried their pretzel (they definitely improved from the first time when they served typical ballpark type ones - they're now more the Cap-Ale House type and much better!), and their burgers. I like their Spring Pale Ale, their Summer ZDam and one of the porters, so those are what I tend to stick with. I have been to Legend twice now. Once for drinks and a second time for dinner. I wanted to go out to dinner this past week because I was not going to make dinner! So my husband and I decided we would go to Legend. It was a beautiful night to sit out on the patio and watch the skyline. It was quiet even though the patio was full of people. It took a little time for a server to come over, but once they did we ordered and everything came relatively quickly. I ordered the brew burger and it was delicious! It had bacon and beer cheese on it. I added tomato and lettuce to make it a little more "burger-ish"! The french fries were piled high on my plate and were gone by the end of the meal! My husband got the blue cheese burger, with bacon, blue cheese, onion and lettuce. He ate every bite! If you are looking for a good place for a nice dinner I would definitely recommend Legend. Great atmosphere. Menu is full of great variety no matter what your pleasure is. The bartenders are friendly and pay attention to you. The view of the city from the outside deck is amazing. Really captures the greatness that is Richmond. And the drinks...well Legend has been here since 1993. That is a lot longer than most of the other breweries in town. Try it out for lunch or dinner. This has a nice spot in an industrial area. The view is ok, there's construction going on at the moment. Their outdoor seating is pretty expansive! Our waitress was nice & quick to get our drinks. She suggested I try the zdam summer seasonal. It was crisp & refreshing. We both ordered medium well burgers. Both burgers were pretty charcoaled on the outside & dry on the inside; to the point it was a crunchy bite each time I bit into it. Tater tots were ok, some were crispy & some not so much. Beautiful location in an old warehouse district across the river from downtown Richmond, but on Memorial Day as the only brewery open in Richmond, we visited with our little wiener dogs on a mild afternoon. No one in Richmonds has any wait staff post-COVID (thanks over ambitious stimulus), and Legend had a 1 hour wait for seats even though we counted 8 tables unseated outside and mostly uncleared. The host stand of 3 hostesses were chill in their indirect AC, and the most they did was kick us and our dogs off of the view patio where we were seated in vacant chairs. They kicked another couple with a dog off later too. Why is Legend hostile to dog owners? Seems like a last resort brewery in a town known for craft beer. Their beer was the least innovative we have seen in years too. Mmmm, lager. My recommendation? When you come to Richmond, go to Veil, Ardent, Hardywood, Vasen, 3Notch'd, or the Answer. Went to Legend Brewing this evening to have Fish and Chips as they were highly recommended from a friend. Not only was the fish salty, it also tasted freezer burnt. My friend exchanged hers and got the fish tacos. I should have as well. Daughter had the bourbon street pasta dish which she enjoyed. Service was indifferent. I ordered a side salad, it came with the meal instead of before. I ordered an unsweetened iced tea, barely any ice, I had to go and get another server to give me ice. Beautiful view of Richmond skyline. I went there with a couple coworkers for drinks and apps. We got the nachos, roasted Brussel sprouts and the pretzel to share. Personally, would have loved to order an entree but no one else did so I didn't either. Food was better than I expected but also nothing to write home about. The nachos had plenty of toppings and was a good portion. The Brussel sprouts were perfectly crispy and tender at the same time. It came with a balsamic glaze as a dip. I didn't love the glaze but if you love balsamic, this is for you. The pretzel was a little too salty for my taste but that's to be expected... it's a salted soft pretzel. Came with cheese dip and mustard. The drinks were good, I just stuck with a Bold Rock cider, but one of my friends got a version of a vodka cranberry (it was called the Richmonder) but it was very good and super refreshing. We sat outside and it's nicely shaded. It was pretty warm that day and I didn't feel overheated sitting outside. I wouldn't come out of the way to come here since it's a 30 minute drive for me, but if some friends were to come, I would definitely not be opposed to it Food and drink wise, I would recommend. Still want to try an actual meal here... Service was VERY spotty but everyone was extremely nice. Our server had a huge party so others helped her out. Would have been nice to see her more than twice within the three hours we were there for. Word of advice, when sitting outside, water is in a big cooler for everyone to use and we had a hard time flagging someone down to get us some more water since the cooler was empty halfway through our time there. I would just bring your own water to make life a little easier. Overall, very decent place that exceeded my expectations. Granted, I had low expectations before going. We sat out on the padio on Friday night about 10pm and it was easy to get a seat for 5. The view is just beautiful of the city skyline. We got several beers which were great but the sevice wasn't super great. She never came back to qet drinks for friends that came after the first round and we would have drunk more and stayed longer but when she finally came back it was too late to order more so we just left. 4 stars for atmosphere and beer. 3 stars for food. Legend has locally brewed beer and an awesome patio. It's big, on the river, has nice umbrellas and you can almost always get a table out there. They have live music on Friday and Saturday nights and they have bluegrass on Sundays. The beer is served in pitchers or pints. I usually go for the Brown Ale or Golden Ale. There are rotating seasonal brews along with some standards. They also do a sampler so you can get a little of each, which is fun. My main complaint about Legend is that their food is only okay. If they could get it up a notch, this place would be packed all the time. I like that they have a wide selection of seafood, but the local oysters I got were slimy and unappetizing. We couldn't finish them and I normally love me some oysters. The steamed shrimp are usually just fine, as are the burgers. The soft pretzel is fine, but it's not homemade. It's pretty much the same frozen SuperPretzel you can get at the supermarket. I think I like mall pretzels better because at least they're freshly made. The spicy mustard that comes with them is pretty good, though. The best thing I've had on the menu thus far was the hummus plate. It comes with tortilla chips (odd) and a bunch of fresh carrots, broccoli and celery for dipping. The hummus itself is full of fresh flavor. But then again, how do you mess up a hummus plate? Service can be slow if the patio isn't busy and as a result I'd go here if I was in the mood to relax for a while, not so much to eat and run. Came from DC to visit Richmond and enjoy Legends on Feb 2 after loving my trip to the Legends in Portsmouth Va. First of all the beer is all good. Come and enjoy a quaff anytime. We had an issue with all our food. Beer cheese used with both the cheese steak and the pretzels was a runny mess. Couldn't pick up the cheese steak it was so wet. The sauce didn't stick to the pretzels either. Cheese sauce should be a little thick. Also had the wings. Wanted them again after loving them in Portsmouth. They were burnt. Not charred, which I expected. They were black and dried out. So of course we asked our waiter and he said that comes from the smoking. What????? Stopped into Legend for the first time around Thanksgiving with my Mom and Aunt. I started with the Imperial Harvest Ale. I enjoyed it but probably would have preferred something a bit less hoppy. We started with the loaded tots. They were layered with cheese, bacon, and jalapenos. How can you go wrong? These were darn good. I got the pimento bacon burger. It left much to be desired. Burger was over cooked. Stingy on the bacon and the pimento cheese had no flavor. I was disappointed. The green beans on the side were greasy and under-seasoned. My Mom got the kraut as her side and found it inedible. Our server was friendly and definitely took good care of us. I really like the interior of the pub and, of course, the views from the deck can't be beat. Maybe I just struck out food wise but I'm hesitant to return to Legend for a meal. Beers? OK I am a huge fan of this place solely because they have soft pretzels on their menu (that you should get with cheese on the side, for dipping of course) and I think that is the perfect thing to drink with a nice cold beer. That view! I went for the view. I love to take photos of Richmond and it was recommended to me that I visit numerous times to photograph the skyline. My rating is driven by the top notch beer quality. Get a flight! We tried nearly a dozen beers. Also got some sausages and chicken and waffles. Food was good but the beers won the night. I have been to many breweries that give out flights with descriptions and often wondered how I was missing out on all the wonderful stuff being described (note the sarcasm). Just across the river from my hotel this was the coolest place to hang out. A huge deck that made day drinking a pleasure. Whether by myself or with some new local friends I made. The view alone give them a star. Full sky line and the green trees shows me a lot of the beauty RVA provides. RVA from what I've experienced doesn't have high IBU's or ABV's per style, aside from Hardeywood and this was more of that usual stuff. This is really more of a restaurant than a pure brewery. I'm used to seeing maybe pretzels or food truck of just a BBQ grill, but never a whole restaurant. Unlike Karl Strauss Brewery Restaurants and Stone Garden's back home they showcase the restaurant, here it's really not about either. It's cool, but not groundbreaking and doing nothing new. Tip: Mosquito's are pretty ridic in the summertime, granted I'm not from around here I saw a mosquito the size of an oyster. Having had so much good seafood I thought it safe to try the beer mussels. Normally i use wine if i use alcohol in my seafood or mussels, but never beer. Bland despite it sounding amazing. Good value for a pound of mussels though you get what you pay for. Fried pickles were decent, but i did like the jalapeno ranch and to me it went well with the onion rings. Fried well, but could use some spice in the batter. So they said the mushroom swiss goes well with the brown ale, but when the burger is overcooked and dry even the avo ranch can't bring it back you get the fact that it's still a brewery. Lets get to the beer. Hopfest is as it's name states full of aroma and flavor, but i hate to say that pine kills it for me. Stout was better, but the sour fruit and raisin taste again turned me off. I loved the lager, clean finish and light, allowed me to put these away like the fizzy beer we all hate. Brown ale was my favorite, probably because of all the barrels of Newcastle I've had over the years, but a little fruity sweetness to finish. Ok so the food was mediocre. The beer was better than average, amazing view, but the service was poor all around. the decor i fully expected a little more thought to be put into it. It really doesn't do the skyline view justice. It's still super fun and i can see why it's a must see. Don't worry with good enough friends most of this can be overlooked. read more

I will preface: I am not a beer drinker. But I do love a good happy hour, a good patio, and a good view. I came here Wednesday night with a professional group that I am involved with. Legend's served our group of 30+ with efficiency and ease. Since the organization was picking up the appetizers, I stuck with those. I sampled some of the nachos, chicken wings, onion rings, fried pickles, mussels, and potato skins. I would say all were tasty, especially for a place whose focus is beer not food. I did not care for the bleu cheese on the potato skins, but the chicken wings were honestly the best wings that I have ever had. With each of these appetizers, the accompanying sauces were zesty and unique and took the item to the next level. What really makes Legend a FIVE STAR for me is the view of the sky line and the open air patio. I don't know that either can be beat in the Richmond area. Legend's is a phenomenal location to spend the afternoon catching up with old friends and enjoying the weather.
