I decided to stop by today and try this brewery. It's located in a industrial center so there's ample parking. Trey, the owner, was really nice and took the time to tell me about his beer and offered samples. I first started off with a beer flight and my two favorites were Rolander the Goat Dopplebock Lager and Blood Moon Bliss Blood Orange IPA. I also liked the New Beginning Kolsch Style beer. Always like to go when RVA Wood Fired Pizza truck is there! Great, fresh unique pizza. I got the Carol Ann and asked for sauce on the side. I was disappointed that the sauce was cold? Odd. My pizza wasn't very hot either but delicious. Hubs got a buffalo chicken which was spot on. As for the venue, people come early to "claim" the large tables by putting down a jacket in the room with the music. Tables taken up by families with tons of kids too. There was no room left in that room so we sat in the bar room (no kids) but could not hear the music we came to hear! I did go stand for a few songs and Out of Uniform was very good! Would have enjoyed hearing more with our party of 4. Maybe the venue could pipe the music into the bar room for everyone to enjoy? Maybe bring your own chairs. My wife and I had a great time here last night. We went to listen to Turner's Body Shop band. The beer was good... several good options from Rockville Red to Mexican lager to Kolsch. They also had a food truck. The band was also excellent. They played for 3 straight hours! Great songs, great beer and great atmosphere. Judging strictly on the quality of the beer, this is the best independent brewery in the USA. I am not exaggerating. Putting aside ambiance (yes it is at the end of a road in an industrial park, next to some kind of carpet cleaning business or whatever), these beers are all spectacular. The Rockville Red is my go-to mellow malty ale whether at the brewery or buying it in a store, the Not My Job is a solid nutty brown (like Newcastle but deeper), the IPAs they have are awesome (according to my sources who like IPAs) - with a special shout-out to the Blood Moon IPA which is one that I can even drink. Finally, the Las Dos Mexican lager is something absolutely special - like if somehow Negra Modelo could make a boutique version. If you go to one brewery in Central Virginia it needs to be Midnight. They frequently have bands, singers, and food trucks, so check the schedule. Also be prepared for it to be packed with solid middle-America folks. read more

We really enjoyed our recent visit to Midnight Brewing, a family-run OG brewery in the Richmond area. Had great conversations with the owner/founder Trae and his bartending daughter Alexis. We visited on a Friday and they had both a food truck (Wrapper's DLite) and a local band (The Signature Move... Loved the Little Feat!). Their wide range of beers weren't typically IPA-centric, but more traditional styles (Kolsch, Oatmeal Stout & Mexican-style Lagers), all well-made (including the IPAs). They also can many of their beers, so I'm looking forward to sharing them around the campfire this long, holiday weekend. read more

We went out to midnight brewery on a sunday afternoon with just our newborn, while the toddlers were still with their grandparents, to enjoy some adult time and alcohol before getting kids back the next day. We enjoyed the beers we tried: I had their New Beginning (kolsch) and the Goochland Chiller (light ale), both easy to drink and refreshing. Husband got the Not My Job (brown ale) and Molly Malone (english porter) and those were tasty too. There was a food truck there until closing, 6pm on sunday. The crowd there seemed to be a lot of local regulars, who had mugs to reuse when they visit, and many seemed to know each other which provided a light, homey atmosphere. The man and woman behind the bar were really friendly. Overall, we're glad we finally visited after seeing the sign on 64 and wondering about it for so long. I docked a star for personal preference, because its not a very kid friendly brewery (indoor area and small concrete gated outdoor space, no changing table in bathroom), which is totally fine, but as i have kids, i prefer a space with more room for kids to roam etc. Luckily we were there without kids this time so could enjoy! We had a great Saturday doing tasters. I love a brewery that will do a tasting flight. Each beer is around 5% (so you don't need to worry about driving) but excellent tasting. We even had a "Curry" food truck, in which I was educated on Curry. Loved everything!! This establishment, not far from Short Pump is a must do! This is a nice brewery that is definitely worthy of a dedicated following. They often have music and sometimes have food vendors. On the evening we were there, there was a pizza truck and a fella playing some classic tunes. I love that they have games you can play. We picked Smartass to play with my daughter and her friend. This was the second brewery we stopped at on our brewery trail. Pretty large space, plenty of seating indoor and outdoor. There isn't much of a scenery which was a bummer but I still appreciated that there was room for me to sit, unlike a lot of the breweries downtown. They had a wide variety of beer and a food truck offering BBQ which was great!! The pulled pork sandwich was very flavorful. The homemade chips were FREAKING AWESOME!!!! It was a little expensive but pretty good! There was a live band and a super cool "photobooth" area with face masks and signs to hold in your picture. Stumbled upon this brewery on our way to throw some axes. Great brewery. Staff was very knowledgeable about the beers. Each beer was explained in detail as I was given a sample of everything they had on tap. They even told me about the RVA brewery trail. I had no idea there were so many breweries in the area. Visited this brewery on a Friday night to try something new in the area. The band and beer were ok but nothing extraordinary. I ordered a round and left my card at the bar to keep the tab open - had a discussion around leaving it there and leaving it open with the bartender - then when I went up for another round 30 minutes later the card was "lost." After 20 minutes of searching the two people at the registers shrugged and said "you can call your bank to close the card." I said I understood but that was an inconvenience and asked if they could retrace their steps first seeing as it was within 30 minutes and the bar area is very small. They refused and I was told "it's not a big deal just cancel it." Essentially they are not running a very professional business and don't care about the customer - neither the beer or the music justify having to put up with sub-par customer service and inconvenience/security risk of them losing your card. read more

Awesome brewery not too far from the Short Pump/West End. They say Goochland but it's really Rockville. Tasting flights are $8 and you can pick any four beers you want. I tried their Irish Red Ale, Batch 3 (seasonal), Batch 4 (seasonal), and Christmas At Midnight (seasonal). Out of the batch I liked the CAM the best and got a growler of it to go. ($8 for the growler and $10 to fill a 32 oz). They have bands and local food trucks as well. Not sure if that is just on Saturdays. Board games a plenty as well! I am LOVING this brewery! Showed up right after opening on a Saturday. A friend and I split a flight while the boys just ordered what sounded good. All of their beers were more than drinkable (which for 4 people to all agree, says a lot!) but their Rockville Red was my absolute favorite! We picked a table outside and grabbed some food from the foodtruck, which was Poor Boys Burgers (Oh my god, so yummy!) and grabbed some trivia to play- they've also got a bunch of other board games. They got a little bit busier while we were there, but not overly crowded. Their bathrooms were clean, and so was inside even though we weren't in there long. Loved the thin blue line/thin red line flag they've got on the wall - it's always a plus when a local business supports law enforcement and EMS/fire. Their prices were more than fair and we will definitely be back. Keep up the great work guys! read more

The brewery is a little off the beaten path, but well worth the trip. The taproom is small and has an industrial feel to it. The staff was inviting and knowledgeable about the beer. The taproom doesn't have food on-site but usually has a food truck to help with the munchies. The Midnight Smoke, Head First, and Purdy Mechanic were some of my favorites from the flight. Midnight Brewery is a gem. I have never had a bad beer here. I am a big fan of the Not My Job Brown Ale and the Christmas At Midnight. Trae Cairns is the owner and brewmaster here and he and his crew always make me feel welcomed. I enjoy this spot for growler fills but you can also grab a cold one and drink it there. They have events and food trucks on the weekend and drop some cool beer knowledge every so often on their facebook page. Although Rockville sounds far, it's really not. It's right past Short Pump and definitely worth the drive. read more

First time here on the second Saturday of the month. My friend and I were on our way home from hiking and got invited to come here over the weekend to listen to a band, try the beer at the brewery, and get some pizza. We had already eaten on the road, so we came here to try out a beer and listen to some music. The band that played last night was really fun to listen to, and brought it way back for us. I definitely want to come here and try out this place for a full night when I'm not dirty from mountain dirt. haha. Also, the beer that I ended up trying was the chocolate cherry stout and it was REALLY good. It was not to heavy nor did it feel overwhelming drinking the beer, I really liked that beer. The place is clean and pretty opened. I highly recommend coming out here and enjoying the environment again. read more

Wow. What an unsuspected surprise. My folks and I dropped in here to try out after being told at a store in Short Pump that a new brewery had popped up in the area. As a person that lives near and frequents the Nelson 151 breweries and a few others, I was impressed with the selection and taste of the brews at Midnight. The staffer stressed that they strive to not go too wild on flavors, but will make a spiced up special every now and then. I have to say I loved that fact. I find that I'll typically like 1 or 2 beers out of a flight of 6 at most places, but I have a hard time saying I disliked any of these and pin them against each other. The only downfall is their lack of signage to find the place (which isn't entirely their fault. Partly the business park they're in) and the lack of environment if you're going for a fancy hang out joint. However, I am told they are moving to the much larger building next door and I think that will be exciting to see. Friendly staff and I can't wait until they move to the bigger building. I will be back and bringing more people and the Christmas beer is a must try for me. So unique and I've got to get a growler full around December. Many thanks and kudos Midnight! read more

Great brewery outside of Richmond. Friendly staff and easy to get to as it's right off Interstate 64. I remember our very first stop at the first location. Richmond is a beer town. Midnight brewery is one of, if not the best. Located in Rockville, off rt64, its defenetly worth a vist. I have been here many times and it gets better every time. Try the Rockville Red and their seasonal selections. On this visit I had Russian Imperial stout. Amazing beer, life changing if not life comfirming. The staff is always friendly in a non hipster way. And if your 53 like i am its refreshing. Some places make me feel like I am not cool enough to be drinking their beer. If you look at the crowd, they are having fun. What a hidden gem. We were in the area at a driving range and stumbled upon this place... THANKS YELP! You drive into an office complex and you're not entirely sure what to expect and then you see the brewery! We walked in and were immediately greeted by the bartenders who were friendly and helpful. I got the blood orange IPA and wow. Just wow. It also appears like they have food trucks here on a regular basis. The food truck that was there when we were had cheese steaks. Saw the sign for this brewery while driving from Richmond to Charlottesville, and made a mental note to come on the return trip. And i did! AND IT WAS SO WORTH IT! On a random weekday night, it was refreshing to see several small groups of people/locals flit in and out of the brewery, that to me suggests that the locals like it, and that the beer is at least decent... Well, I went ahead and got a flight, and the beer was definitely WAY better than decent, it was delicious! I will say the red/amber beer was the standout, but everything I tried was quite tasty! The bartender was friendly and very helpful, telling me about the brewery and the brews. Overall, they have quite a few brews, I think in addition to their regular ones they were trying out about 6 new ones, I had one of those called batch #3 which I enjoyed. Decided to stop by and check out the new digs for Midnight. I have to say that I am very impressed with the interior. Midnight has always had a great selection of beer. My only gripe is that there is not really an outdoor area. Yes there are are few plastic benches in the back, but its not exactly the greatest area to enjoy a lovely fall afternoon. read more
