I've visited Port Townsend several times, but this was my first visit to this uber cool indie shop. They've been in business since 1974, clearly I've been under a rock! This is your vinyl destination for mint albums and rare, nostalgic finds. Terrific support for local labels and bands. Wow, what a selection! The Homie was in heaven having found two albums he couldn't find at other indies in Seattle. Add in sale Tshirts and buttons, he was a happy camper on this road trip. The shop is worth a leisurely inspection. There are turntables, Tshirts, posters, books, buttons, and oh did I mention vinyl from various genre?! The two gentlemen at the shop were really pleasant. One manned the turnable in the back, the other covered the front register who also greeted folks stopping in. Both took the time for a quick convo. Trust me, this was a welcomed contrast to what we experienced earlier at another breakfast spot. Cue up the lyric, 'you are as cold as ice...' I digress. Yes, Quimper Sound Records is a worthy indie shop along Water to stop in, locate potential cool finds, and drop considerable green. Celebrated small victories on this particular spontaneous road trip! The Homie and I will wear their Tshirts proudly (8/24/19)

Eclectic selection of vinyl and CDs! When I last visited in April, in vinyl, they had a Pre-Steve Perry Journey record, The Forty-Fives "High Life High Volume", Beach Boys "Pet Sounds", Radiohead's new album, and much much more. The CD collection was good as well. They had a $10 off of $100 offer, must use cash.

I was hoping to find any reggae or roots artists, but they have a limited selection of these genres. However, they have a wide selection of country, folk, rock, classical, and of the like genres. The staff were friendly and offering to help me search for any genre or artist I was looking for. I quickly thumbed through the Caribbean selection and bought two vinyls. Each was $5, so I thought that was a score. They also have a box of free vinyls outside you can rummage through.

What's nice is Vortex would be considered a small business, I mean what other major retailer these days buys and sells physical media like this presently? furthermore, I'm all for the preservation of physical media with so much of everything going digital now. If I'm looking for something in particular and need it for my DVD or CD player, I'll probably try here and perhaps you should too.

Seattle record shops are often picked over, so come over here to find treasures and better pricing. They also have the new records here too, and vinyls seem to be priced according to quality as you can find the same vinyls priced differently. Selection is great without being impossible to browse through. The owner is pretty friendly. There's also nice ambient music playing in the background (on a record player, of course). I bought some records where the album cover was very worn, so I wasn't expecting much but miraculously they played without any noise. Amazing!

It's a tiny little place that's packed with a diverse selection--from '80s new wave to jazz, from metal to country classics, from Bowie to Branigan and back again, and pretty much everything in between. I was particularly tickled to find a bunch of Polish pop and garage rock from the '60s and '70s there in the bins, a lot of neat stuff I'd never seen before. The selection is great, the prices fair, and the guys working the shop are friendly and fun to chat with about music. If you're in Victoria and you're into vinyl, it's definitely worth venturing a few blocks north of the downtown core to check this little place out.

Vinyl selection is organized, and most of them are graded and priced accordingly. Just a note that I only picked up NM (Near Mint) records for older records, but grading seems a little too generous here as one of the records had many visible scratches when you hold it under the light and you can hear them when playing (for comparison, I don't see NM grading as common in other record shops). I picked up a handful of records here. The staff is knowledgable and friendly, and atmosphere is nice with light pop songs playing in the background. They purchase and sell lego sets, including older sets that are very hard to source. The oldest I've seen was from 1980, to give you an idea. Most are contemporary or from the 2010s, of course. The prices are very fair. An out of print set might go for a few bucks more than its original retail price if it isn't super rare. The owner isn't trying to gouge you and she's very open about her pricing policy. The owner is a font of knowledge about all things lego. She's extremely dedicated: she verifies every used set for integrity (and replaces missing bricks), she guarantees completeness for any set you buy, she'll source lego sets for you, she'll hold sets for you at the cash, and answer every which question you have. She's also very personable. The store attracts teens, families and adult collectors.

The owner, Russell, is thoroughly familiar with the various styles of music and the artists/groups (both well known AND obscure) and is able to make recommendations to customers who may be new to this type of ear candy.. You'll be pleasantly surprised by the very reasonable prices of both the albums and record players, I've seen much more expensive ones at lesser quality in other secondhand stores -and online- so believe me, you'll come back again and again! Russ and team are great people who love getting to know their clientele's eclectic taste in music. It is a great feeling to walk in and have the staff mention an artist you like and that they have something new or similar in stock. The reason for my updated review is the new store layout. The entire store has been revamped and is more welcoming to browse. There is even a new listening station setup! This is great for checking if a record plays well or if some wacky album art catches the eye. The variety of records coming in from the community is getting better and better with the offered genres beginning to expand. Prices are unbeatable for the quality provided. This is largely due to the focus being on people who actually listen to their records. New services such as turntable repair/setup is great to see. They even have some models for sale! Consignment is still going strong for some of the more pristine records available. Even so, they aren't priced unreasonably. (Again, focused on getting these records into rotation asap with a new set of ears.) My personal favorite is seeing local bands/musicians having brought in music to be sold. They even have a couple patches, buttons, and denim jackets for sale!
