If you dont see what you want or if the item isnt the grade you want...just ask. They'll have it somewhere or know who has it. The grades of records go from playable but rough covers to collector grade, so they hit all price points. When they are well stocked, its not uncommon to find multplie copies of an album with prices from a few bucks to $20...and he's probably got a primo copy somewhere, some ungraded ones waiting to be logged in, and a trashed version for free out in the boxes out front. I even check the free box outside for covers in better condition than one in my collection or for missing liner notes, etc. They guys are a wealth of knowledge. Just ask. They'll straight up tell you if the albumn is a first pressing, a re-issue, a bootleg, etc. They love music....and cats.

I was hoping to find any reggae or roots artists, but they have a limited selection of these genres. However, they have a wide selection of country, folk, rock, classical, and of the like genres. The staff were friendly and offering to help me search for any genre or artist I was looking for. I quickly thumbed through the Caribbean selection and bought two vinyls. Each was $5, so I thought that was a score. They also have a box of free vinyls outside you can rummage through.

They seemed to have a great selection of music that most people have never heard of. Good niche but it should be in addition to what is considered mainstream music. The young lady that was working there was a smart aleck which I did not appreciate either. That was my first visit and will be my last!

I have mostly interacted with the young woman there who is incredibly knowledgeable about some local and underground music. It is important to note that The Business is not a dusty-crate style record store. Almost all of their vinyl is new or in tremendously good shape. Prices reflect this, but are not unreasonable. Also, this isn't a shop to go hunting for classic rock or bargain bin grails. Their selection is mainly newer artists but with a wide range of genres to be found. Seriously, their bins are bulging with new artists waiting to be heard. They also buy and trade. However, I wouldn't advise bringing in moldy Christmas/Polka/Slim Whitman LPs expecting to leave a penny richer...

So, it appears to be time for another update…read more I spent about 90 minutes in the shop rummaging through 100s of LPs sitting on the floor. It looked like what was left from a lot of titles which probably cost the store owner very little. As I continued searching (for anything of value) I did manage to locate 3 records of interest; a John Lennon, a Leonard Cohen, and another one whose name escapes me, now a couple of months after the fact. The records were interspersed between 100s of titles which were essentially worthless. The 3 items of interest were dirty and in need of a good cleaning. When I showed these items to the owner he said, "I didn't even know I had these". "How much for these please?" I replied. To my surprise Nick priced each record according to the median on Discogs. After 90 minutes of searching, for 3 dirty items he didn't even know he had?! Needless to say, I really expected to get some sort of deal. I left empty handed and unhappy. I seams that this store is more interested in making money than they are in keeping loyal customers. There are other, better places to purchase records in the Vancouver area. The owner was not only knowledgeable, personable, and real; it was clear his passion was the music and the vinyl medium. It was a fantastic visit we had to cut short but it will be another place that we will be coming back to time and time again.

Great to see a store like this open in The Heights!…read more Mostly factory sealed vinyl in the genres of: Punk, Hardcore, Indie/College, Metal, Rock, Hip Hop. Has a small but growing section of used records as well. Store also carries Stereo Equipment and a wicked supply of mounted Show Posters. The guy running the place is super helpful, I've been in twice and both times a superior experience. I enjoyed the music related conversations we've had, was helpful when I need to return a damaged record and remembered who I was, so that's a bonus. Also, they have a loyalty/reward card as well.
