I absolutely love legends. It a younger mix of guys with some Lesbian thrown in here and there but it definately caters to the male clientele. They have good dancing music and a decent dance floor. The only thing I don't like is that they only take cash at the bar. No open tabs! Other than that the drag shows are really good and I really don't like drag shows that much. Came in on a Friday night for my roommate's and a friend's joint birthday celebration. I almost didn't come out because of the $10 cover. Turn out that night the cover was only $7. Still not free, but slightly better. They also let my two friends in for free because it was their birthday month! The establishment is quite spacious with various rooms: lounge, dance floor, outdoor patio, and of course the drag show theater. I believe they have 3 CASH bars inside. The place has potential for a fun night out. However, my experience there was just A-OK. We got there around 11, and the place was pretty empty. I was expecting it to be a bit more crowded. I was relieved when we saw that there were a little crowd on the dance floor (2 groups of 4~5 plus some). It was nice to not have to fight for dance floor space. It was mostly pop music/top 100 remixed. The music was good, but sometimes it could be a bit hard to dance to. Not sure about their drag show schedule, but the day we went, they had 2 shows: 12 AM & 1AM. The two shows were different! This is probably their main attraction. This was my first time at a drag show, so it made my night. For the drag show, I think it was almost worth the $7 cover charge, otherwise, I probably would not want to pay to come again. read more

Legends is the go-to gay bar in Raleigh. It is huge. Centrally located between downtown and the newly cool warehouse district. Multi-faceted, with pool tables and a lounge and a patio and a dance floor and a theater. Reasonably priced with an $8 cover on a saturday night in june 2012. Open until 3:30am which is refreshing in downtown Raleigh. We met some queens from Winston-Salem who were so excited that they spontaneously started walking an imaginary runway. I wish I could say it was a great club. This review is based on one visit, so maybe I just hit them up on the wrong saturday night. All that space works against Legends -- at maybe 40% capacity everybody was spread out and none of the rooms were really jumping. You would think that management might strategically close down some of the rooms when they're empty. Despite all those empty seats, the bar service was consistently slow and curt. One bartender was paying more attention to his phone than his patrons. The drag show... oh, the drag show. How could a drag show ever be boring? Legends found a way. Overblown lip synching interspersed with performers wandering through the crowd to collect tips. The dance floor. Here is where I was most let down. Still empty at 1am. Can't blame the patrons, this was a DJ problem. And when it finally started filling up an hour later, there were a number of amateurs exposing the type of flabby, pasty skin that nobody wants to see. In spite of all this, we had fun. The vibe is laid back and friendly. It's easy to talk to people here. I really wanted Legends to be good. But it doesn't quite get there. If you are coming from a bigger city, you might find one gay dive bar's worth of patrons spread out over 5 big rooms. If you are coming from a smaller town, you'll probably find it to be way better than your options at home. read more

Newly renovated patio proved to be a perfect setting for an event. The DJ kept the tunes hot and the fans kept us cool. My Bartender Brian was knowledgable about the drinks he was making and was ok with making something of his tastes. A great spot to hang out with old friends and make some new ones. read more

This place never disappoints! The staff is friendly, drinks are great, lots of room and amazing energy! I took my daughter for her birthday. James, our concierge set up every detail. As a lesbian I thought this would be a great place to hang out with friends and relax... It ended up not being what I expected. Didn't live up to the hype. Would have liked to see all types of dancers, big, small, male, female, black, whatever. Instead it was just skinny boys wiggling in their (obviously) stuffed bikinis. The patio was nice, could have used some space heaters. The whole place could use some indoor seating, especially in the area where they do the drag show. Maybe it's because this area has a serious dearth of decent gay bars, but I'd consider Legends the crown jewel (or maybe elder statesman is better) of the Triangle gay scene. That's not to say it's a perfect place, and in fact you might as well go ahead and accept the fact that you're going to pay for parking. Just park across the street in the pay lot and save yourself some time and frustration. You're also going to pay a cover (almost always) and you're going to pay a little bit more for drinks, too. It's definitely not a cheap place to visit, but I do think that the layout is fantastic. It's much bigger than it looks from the road, and there are three big areas to explore. The first room is where the DJ and dance floor are, with two large bars and a few tables to sit at when you need a break from dancing. The second room is an outdoor courtyard, with another bar and a cute little fountain. It's nice in the summer, but in the winter it really sucks to have to pass through this outdoor area to get to the back room. And that room (which is non-smoking) is much nicer, with comfy couches, flat-screen TVs, and yet another bar. So that's four bars in one place. You shouldn't have a problem getting a drink. I'm no dance music expert, so I won't comment on the music. I will say that my boyfriend and I have been to Legends more times than I can count, usually with our gay friends but I wouldn't feel at all uncomfortable without them. Boyfriend likes it because he can get a drink quickly and I like it because I can dance without being hassled. Be sure to bring plenty of cash, because that's all the front bars accept. You can get cash from the register at the entrance, but there will be a service fee. I think the back room bar takes cards, but I could definitely be wrong. read more

I like it because it is a fun place. It has multiple rooms so you can dance to different music. I like that the place is big so you don't get stuck at the same place with exactly the same people dancing next to you. I really liked their outdoor space. And it was fun to see the Drag Queen Show. What I really liked was that they don't close at 2:00 am so you can stay here longer. I think more places in Raleigh need to stay open longer. It is kind of sad that bars think that they only have to stay open until they are able to serve. The only thing that I did not like at all is that they take the information of your ID to make you are member and also your phone number. I think that is kind of inviting my privacy. I bet other places that scan your ID also keep the information what I also don't like at all cause that information could be used against you but I thought this was kind of strange. Discovered this place with my first Yelp Triangle event. It's quite spacious with tables and couches near the bar at the door and then an open patio space with a nice fountain in the back with another bar counter. They have a large billiards room and a back room for the drag shows. I was actually pretty impressed by the drag show, I guess the Triangle is proving to me that not all is lost with the move from the bay area, SF. It keeps pleasantly surprising me with the diversity. The bathrooms had enough stalls and seemed fairly clean. The bartender at the counter by the door, wasn't all too happy about his job- maybe he doesn't realize that he makes the first impression. read more

I used to go here alot, and would drive an hour to enjoy this place but over the years, the place has become too cliquey and if you dont belong to a clique, they dont care. Definitely a great place to go if you are looking for an exciting evening in the triangle area. There are a couple of different dance floors, which is great! The music is fun, the drinks are good, and it has a large patio right in the heart of the club. I don't really like the membership going on the back of my ID... but that's not a reason to shy away. So i think that this club needs a major revamp. No offence to any of the Dragg queens, but you need to be singing and dancing to new aged music.not old music. Als9 the Dragg show should be bigger like at Play Nigh Club in nashivllie,tn. Don't let them out do you. The game room is a waste unless you making enough revenue for it not to matter. Mare tables and chairs does help also. Newer younger Dragg queens also helps if the originals do not want to pick more up to date music. There are so many ways to make this happen. It was my first time in the state capital. My friend in Greensboro said it would be a nice club so I went there on Saturday night and Sunday night. It was definitely a younger crowd. I tend to like more mixed (all ages) crowd. The decor was nice. I loved the bathroom bubbles the most. I won $40 bucks my first night at Bingo, so that says some lucky lady of a night I had. I did not care for the music though. I barely danced , which sucks because I love dancing! If I move to Raleigh I do not think I would go out here though every Saturday. I wish CC's and FLEX were more dancing places and more happening, and Legends wasn't the only choice on Saturday night for dancing. read more

I LOVE this place. It's hard to find a club that's 18 and older, so I was really happy when I was allowed to come in here. I'm at the annoying age of 20, so I can't drink, but you don't need to. This place is still fun if your stone cold sober. I have always had a thing for drag shows, and decided to come down to Raleigh for a weekend. Was very excited about this one and it was great. The queens are very funny, and really good people. They also interact with the crowd a lot more than any drag show I've ever been to. I'll definitely be coming back next time I'm in Raleigh. At first when I visited this club I was very impressed by how big it was. After attending on weekends and this past week during pride I'm far from impressed anymore. The cover charges are always extremely expensive. I moved here from New York City and I couldn't believe the high cover of this mediocre bar. Most rooftop bars in New York with an amazing view of the city doesn't even charge a cover like this. Typically the covers at legends are around $8-10. This past weekend on Saturday (day of pride) they decide to monopolize on the gay people that would be out and had the nerve to charge a $25 cover. I have never in my life heard of such a thing. Not only was it $25 but there was parts of the club you couldn't even enter because they were VIP. I feel like they are taking advantage of the gay and lesbian community. They clearly do not care for the club to be a place of refuge for the LGBTQ community they only care about the money. Most of the bar tenders do not make the drinks very strong at all either. This is a very clicky bar so do not go to make friends. I'm so angry that they think this is okay. Someone needs to open another LGBTQ bar because their clientele could easily be taken from them. When I moved here I was so sad that I was leaving behind stonewall and cubbyhole in New York City, but I was so excited when I found legends. It's been a huge let down ever since my first visit. I went back probably four more times thinking I would start to like it, but this past weekend really made it clear that they are just money hungry. Overpriced for the whole" experience" and not worth a second look. For two covers and one double drink apiece it was about $60. The atmosphere is a straight up disgusting dive dump. I like good dive bars (see my Berkley cafe review) but legends is just sad, trashy, and dumpy. The decor... oh wait there is no decor, just a series of empty black rooms. Don't use the bathroom at this place. Seems to be more of a townie\local crowd. If you are gay and looking for LGBT places go to fifteen or the borough. Miles ahead in terms of class. This place would have been a good option 15 years ago. Clearly the owners are not interested in creating a nice establishment but just a place to suck money out of you. Legends is easily one of my favorite clubs in the Triangle. The dance floor is far enough from the bar that you can talk to your friends without shouting and then go dance when your favorite song(s) come on. There's also a patio for cooling off, and a second bar that's nicer, great for relaxing and plays excellent videos (I even caught the History channel in there once!) read more
