A $99 service call fee was disclosed in advance. Despite being a relatively simple job, the total cost exceeded $1,900. After researching the cost of the faucet from their local supplier, I discovered that the faucet retailed for $280, yet I was charged $1,142 for the faucet and installation. Replacing three shut-off valves was billed at $673. In total, an estimated $450 in parts resulted in $1,350 in labor for what was less than a 3-hour job. I reached out to management to better understand the significant upcharge and was told the pricing reflects a two-year company warranty. That explanation raised more questions, given the faucet manufacturer already provides a lifetime warranty on parts and finishes for residential users, covering defects in material and workmanship for as long as the original purchaser owns their home. I was also told the shut-off valves were not expected to fail within their two-year warranty. The remaining justification was that G&C hires experienced plumbers who provide a professional and courteous customer experience. Is this not what a consumer should expect?! Then I was informed that G&C provides a complete benefit package for their employees and that plumbers are just expensive. Overall, while the work was completed, the pricing felt significantly out of line with actual cost of parts, scope, and duration of the job.

The workers who did the installation were very nice and professional, and I paid $175 for the installation. About a month or so later, the plastic sprayer part began sticking and would stay on. The hose itself was fine. One day I noticed a Cullen Plumbing van at my condo complex and saw that they were already doing work in my building. I left a message explaining the problem and said that if they happened to have time to look at it while they were already there, that would be great, but that it was not an emergency and they could come whenever it was convenient. Marc stopped by my unit that same day and agreed that the plastic sprayer part was not working properly. He asked whether Cullen had purchased the faucet or whether I had. I honestly could not remember at the time because I had been hospitalized with sepsis in December, which had significantly affected my memory, among other things. Marc replaced only the plastic sprayer part. There was no hose replacement, and the part took just a few minutes to swap out. I did not receive a bill at the time. A few months later, while preparing to sell my condo, I was going through my Home Depot account and discovered that I had, in fact, purchased the faucet myself. I wanted to do the right thing, so I contacted Marc and let him know that I had purchased it and told him he should send me a bill for replacing the sprayer part. Imagine my surprise when I received an invoice for $190 -- more than I had originally paid for the entire faucet installation -- for replacing a simple plastic sprayer part that took only minutes, especially since Cullen was already working in my building that day. I had no problem paying a fair and reasonable amount for the part and Marc's time. In fact, I was the one who reached out months later to make sure I paid for it. But $190 for this particular repair feels excessive and, unfortunately, like a quick money grab after I tried to do the honest thing. I'm disappointed because my original experience with the workers was positive. Cullen Plumbing also does a lot of work at the new community I've moved to, but fortunately I've since received a referral to another plumber whom I'll be using in the future.

I called Boston Drain Co asking them to unclog my shower drain as well as inspect my sewer line, which I had been advised to look at in my initial home inspection. The person who came was very nice but definitely took advantage of my lack of understanding of plumbing. He could not fix my shower drain due to it having an older drum trap that needed to be replaced, which this company does not do, and I completely understood that. When I asked him to look at the sewer line he explained that the video camera only works if there is no sewer trap present. I, knowing nothing about plumbing as a new home owner, asked if there's any way to check for a trap before doing the video. He said no there is not and he implored me that this test was extremely important and it's worth the risk to have the information about if my sewer line has any issues. So I agreed. When the camera was about 3 feet into my sewer line, what do you know, there's a trap. He stands up and says "look in your sump pump hole, you can see the trap coming up out of the ground right there." And that was the extent of what I learned from the sewer line inspection. So he saw the trap poking up out of the ground but since of course I didn't know what it was he still performed a pointless sewer drain scope and charged me $475. When I called the company to request a refund they just said when the camera comes out you pay $475, end of story. So at the end of the day, my shower is still clogged and I have no idea if my sewer line is damaged. But they got their $475! I hope they enjoyed my money because it's the last penny they will see from my household.
