My favorite bar in Houston, hands down. We are so fortunate to have an authentic tiki bar in the H, especially one as dedicated to their craft as Lei Low. The space is small, but it is charming. The drinks are pricey, but they are artfully crafted, delicious, and worth every penny. You've got to try this place and have an exquisite rum-laden experience. But, drinker beware - it is easy to get carried away when the drinks are this delicious! There is maybe 1 or 2 parking spots in their lot; the rest is street parking on some nearby narrow neighborhood streets. The bartenders recognize us every time we go as we're frequent costumers and we know each other very well now! They change their menu according to the season, but they are willing to make anything from any of their menus, and if it's not on their menus, they can still make it! Don't let the outside fool you. Walking into this tiki bar threw away all of my previous doubts. Parking is super limited as it is located in a very small plaza with a few other businesses. Bar opened at 4pm on a Saturday and we were the first ones there. Still relatively empty at the time, we grab a good seat at the corner booth. There is a back patio that lights up during night time. Too humid during fall season in Houston to sit outside. The interiors were decked out with Hawaiian vibe and low lighting from head to toe. A nice chair at the entrance to make you feel like you're in Hawaii. Staff were super friendly by the bar. We ordered the rum barrel that came in a wooden barrel. Good for 3 to 4 people. Dessert scorpion was in a tiki bowl that's good for 2 to 3 people. Ocean of funk was served in a crystal skull for about 4 or more people. The server brought the drinks over and each one was in flames. The dessert scorpion had a small snack on the side, crickets. At first, we were a bit skeptical by it. However, the taste wasn't so bad. It was crunchy with a bit of sourness to it. Judging by the way my friends were diving into both rounds of all the drinks, it must have been good. The pina colada I had was refreshing and served in a small coconut. We stayed for a couple of hours into the night and that's when the bar got really crowded. You have to return all the special cups before you can close your tab. I love the vibe here and it's a cozy place to hang with friends. read more

The parking can be difficult to navigate. The bartenders and staff are all veteran bartenders with a great attitude and eager to serve their delicious cocktails. They serve a drink that they light up and it always makes for a great time with friends. They serve authentic cocktails and craft beer. Decided to check this place out last night after getting steak night at Dan Electros with some friends. I suggested it because it was down the street and wanted to support a local neighborhood bar. My one star review goes to the blonde hair hostess outside in the Santa dress. I came with 4 friends and mentioned to her that 4 more would be joining us and she rudely tells us we have to go outside. We go to the bartender and ask her if we can sit at the two round tables in the back since there were 8 seats and she tells us yes. The hostess comes to us and tells us we can't sit there and that we need to go outside. We tell her the bartender said it's fine, but then she tells us no one can stand inside the bar (which is odd because the group next to us had half their party standing by the table). After telling her we had enough chairs for our group, she tells us we can't fit 13 people at the table. Never did we say we had 13, we said multiple times we had 4 others joining. Ended up leaving without ordering anything because the hostess either just has a terrible attitude problem or was racist as we were the only Asians in the bar. It's sad because my husband and I live down the street from the bar and wanted to celebrate my friend becoming a nurse. Way to be extremely rude and ruin our night. read more

It can be overwhelming trying to skim through all the ingredients for all the cocktails, but you can't go wrong with just trying or asking the bartender for references. I had the blended drink missionary's downfall, which was light pineapple flavor, but not overly sweet. Parking: Very limited parking. I think there's 4 spots available plus another 4 spots from the gas station next to it that is only available when the gas station is closed. There's plenty of street parking though. I would prefer just ubering or lyfting to this place. Ambiance: This is super casual spot, but it is a small bar with limited space. I don't recommend coming with a large crowd during busy nights. Came here on a weekday afternoon for the tropical itch. It's for 2, but honestly I think it can be good for 3. A strong drink, it's very tasty and presented in a shell, which a flame. The bowls are all presented with fire. Weds are happy hour all night, and they have a fraction of the drinks on the menu which qualify for the deal. Service was friendly. Believe the hype. This place is a tiki bar in almost every sense of the word from the nondescript exterior, interior decorations, and serious drinks they are slinging. We stopped by on a Friday night and ended up getting 2 rounds of drinks. The painkiller was probably my favorite and comes in a ceramic coconut (most of the drinks come in some kind of fun glasses). I was also impressed by the bar tenders as the drink menu was pretty beefy and they were able to work through these complicated to make drinks pretty efficiently. This is one of those bars that you see on yelp and you're excited to visit until you show up. I came here to meet some friends after work and saw a crowd of people hanging outside so I proceeded to walk to the door. I was stopped by a guy who was taking a picture of a group of people. He said he was the door guy and there was a line. Turns out the crowd of people were waiting to get in. I called my friends who we're already inside to tell them I had to wait in line to which there response was "It's not even crowded inside." I've been in Houston for ten years and only now have I stumbled upon this gem. I went here on a date night with my boyfriend. The bar shares a lot with a peculiar looking gas station. There wasn't any available parking in the immediate lot. At that point, I wanted to just go elsewhere because from the exterior it looks like a run down biker's bar or something. If you continue on to the street right along side the bar, there will be a few more spots for parking. I'm so glad we didn't end up leaving. Once you walk through the doors, it's an instant mood. From the music, to the decor, to the waitstaff's outfits, to the cocktail combinations... oh, don't even get me started on the drinks. They are simply perfection! Missing the islands? This is a hole in the wall place in a little strip next to a convenience store and smoke Shop. What a cute place! It's pretty small. We almost couldn't even find it. (It's in a corner.) Once inside, the vibe is amazing. Everyone seems welcoming. But, it fills up FAST. Not a lot of tables, and a small bar. Once that is full, you have to go outside. There isn't a lot of room outside, either. But, the drink menu is phenomenal! Keep in mind this is not only a tiki bar, it is a "rum bar." So, they use a lot of different rums. I told the bartender what I usually drink and asked for her suggestion. Upon her suggestion, I had the Shark Infested Waters (Jamaica white rum, poppy liqueur, Orgeat, lime and ginger beer). It was delish! The bartender was spot on. I'm not usually a fan of "fruity" drinks. But, this was actually fruity and refreshing. For my friend, the bartender suggested Fire in the Fuselage. I don't recall what was in that drink, and I can't find a current photo of the menu on Yelp. But, it was good. It has a tidbit of "spice" to it. The only thing that disappointed me was the snacks. I am not removing a star for this, because it's.....a BAR. They do offer snack mix, chips and beef jerky for around $3 each. I was simply looking for something more substantial.
