What a cute little bar! Super intimate and the bartenders were all super nice and friendly. To the bartender that helped me pick a replacement liquor for my drink you were 10/10 and unfortunately I didn't catch your name. The substitution for the Gin was perfect.

    Ground Control! Love it.

I was in Houston last month on business and had the opportunity to hit Lei Low on my way to the airport and I'm very glad I did. I'm a Tiki Geek so any chance I have to hit a new (for me) tiki bar and down a delicious tropical cocktail, I jump on it. The bar is located in a very unassuming location within a tiny little strip of businesses in the suburbs of northern Houston. Signage outside isn't obvious but once you step inside, you're transported to a little slice of paradise. Service was fantastic...the bartender (Jonathan) was very helpful guiding me towards what to try and gave me some Lei Low swag, too. The fellow seated at the bar next to me turned out to be the owner, Russell Thoede, who was very nice and we engaged in a nice chat about California tiki bars many of which he has visited. The drinks I had were fantastic; Donn's Original Zombie ($18) and Ground Control ($17) and stack right up there with the best we have here in California. Love the different tiki mugs for the different drinks. Thank you, Russell and Jonathan, for such a great experience! HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Lei Low will have you lying low the next day. Small bar here in the heights with potent, delicious cocktails. I only had three drinks and don't remember walking (I live in the neighborhood, so I walk here). I did have 2 expresso martinis to be honest, I guess the third cocktail took me out. Great friendly staff and great place to bring friends. My motto for when I come here is: one is great, two is okay, three is too many. Love this place.

We got the cheeseburger ($15), chili aoili fries ($11), and mussels ($21) I walked in expecting to be let down as the fries and drinks were pretty expensive and we were just getting food at a tiki bar but I was pleasantly surprised. Everything was really good and the price seemed a bit high but totally justified! I enjoyed how they put in the effort to do a bit of a refined twist on normal dishes. The inside looks like a slightly tiki-themed restaurant and I was a little let down by the lack of the typical tiki themed booths, decorations and bamboo/wood trim. The outside however had great ambiance, and the server was very accommodating with us moving to the sandy beach chairs. The service was great, the food came out fast and overall it was a great experience!

I'm going to admit that a few years ago I was going to check out this place, and I drove by thought it looked like a sketchy area and pivoted plans... recently I gave it a real try, and I'm so happy I did. I'm a sucker for tiki bars, but they can be hit or miss. This one was a hit The exterior doesn't look like much, but the interior is surprisingly spacious and inviting. It's intimately lit, but you can still see all the wonderful tropical decor. The vibe was a mix between tropical pirate bar, dive bar, but with artisanal cocktails and incredible bartenders The menu offers such a variety of tiki/tropical beverages with clever names and fun drink-ware. I was impressed that the drink menu isn't only rum based, but instead there's plenty twists on classic cocktails and they're own specialty drinks The bartenders were a delight. Everyone was professional, attentive, and amazing. Each bartender was obviously skilled in handcrafting exceptional drinks, but they weren't rude, stuffy, pretentious, or unapproachable. We actually enjoyed conversation with a few different bartenders. One even made the wrong drink for someone and swung by our section, dropped it off and said "free drink" before walking away. Another was making my drink in a shark shaped glass, asked if it was mine, then handed me a squeeze bottle of grenadine to shoot ("blood") into the sharks mouth from a distance. This was such a fun experience The drinks were delicious (and strong), the bar was lively, the staff were outstanding, and for the experience... it was all affordable Some tips: There is overflow parking in a gravel lot across the street, but I recommend calling a ride-share as these drinks are STRONG Cheers!!

Incredibly friendly bartenders who were super knowledgeable and engaging! Loved the vibe of the place, especially the wallpaper in the bathrooms. The drinks were delicious and I have no complaints! Would be back in a heartbeat!!

Do not judge a book by its cover! We showed up and almost left like many new visitors. But there was a line to get in before it opened at 4 so stayed and sooo glade we did! Every drink is art! Bartenders are amazing! It fills up fast so get in before 5.

If Rainforest Cafe had a grown-up, cooler cousin who served expertly crafted tiki drinks and played surf rock under dim lights--it'd be Lei Low. This hidden gem in Houston feels like you've stepped into a tropical dream. From the moment you walk in, the vibe is laid-back, the music is on point, and the drinks? Absolutely next level. Shoutout to Emily behind the bar--she was not only incredibly sweet and helpful but made sure we found the perfect cocktail for our tastes. Her recommendations were spot-on and made the whole experience even more memorable. If you're looking for a fun, immersive spot that's equal parts island getaway and adult playground, Lei Low is where it's at. Can't wait to go back!

Had drinks at Lei Low before a 7pm dinner reservation in the Heights. Location is tucked away and super unassuming. The bar itself felt a little depressing during daylight hours but the decor was cute and they have a wide array of tiki cocktail options. I enjoy that we have a tiki option in Houston but I probably won't be a repeat customer.

What a cool little bar tucked away in the middle of Houston. From the outside, you wouldn't expect much but once you step inside, the vibe is pure fun. Completely decked out in a tiki bar theme. The menu is loaded with original concoctions all with an island theme. Rum is the alcohol of choice, but fear not their bar is fully stacked if room is not your thing. Order the Ooga Ooga for your table and watch the entire bar chant for you when the drink is being delivered right before they set the top of it on fire. The blue Maui was delicious and the oyster diver comes in its own oyster shell with a pearl on the end of it. Don't miss out on this really unique and fun bar if you're looking for someplace cool to hang out at

This hole in the wall was busy and had strong drinks. The decorations were cute!! We shared a huge Halloween special drink and a mai tai.

They let people smoke inside here. Gross. Drinks are cheaply made but over priced for what it is. Mid overall.

Ask the Community - Lei Low

    Is Lei Low Wheelchair accessible?

Directly in front of the entrance door there is a curb with no ramp. Lei Low is next door to a convenience store that shares the same sidewalk out front-I'm not sure if there is accessibility at either end of the walkway out front. I would call Lei…

    Is there adequate parking?

Yes. Just behind the bar and a coffee shop is a proper parking lot for both establishments.

    Is it only 21+?

    Yes

What is your Wednesday happy hour like?

Wednesday is Happy Hour all night! 6 different drinks for 6 bucks each.

What kind of music do that usually play here?

I've only Heard Island tunes and bob Marley. It's kinda too loud with conversations flowing to enjoy the music on the weekends.

    Is there food?

They have updated to add a few items since Covid including Spam Masubi and a cheese plate from a local cheese shop.

Hi! What are y'all's happy hour menu like on Thursdays?

They have 6 happy hour drinks from 4-7 PM that are each $6. You can see a photo of their new drink menu in the recent photos here here on yelp, and the six drinks that are offered that price for happy hour are marked with an icon next to them.

They also have nice indoor and outdoor seating options. Fun place!

Anyone who knows me understands I tend to avoid the corporate or heavy investor funded bars. I will…read morereluctantly go to them with friends, but I prefer local joints that I can support. The types of places that combine the atmosphere I'm looking for: 1) has a good selection of beer, preferably local brewers; 2) some wine or craft cocktails for different preferences; 3) has a food menu, permits outside food, or brings in food trucks/pop-ups; 4) a laid back vibe that welcomes families and doesn't have the air of pretentiousness; and lastly; 5) a patio for the small windows of nice weather we have in Houston, or just anytime we want to bring along our four legged friends. I've rarely ran across an outdoor patio that doesn't permit pets and if they do restrict them, it's not worth my business. To that end, this spot ticks a lot of boxes. For those who aren't into the Houston F&B scene as much, Robin Berwick is the creative mind behind this spot. If you've ever visited a caffeine themed coffee and bar in the midtown area, you've been to another long standing establishment of hers. When Berwick's opened roughly over a year ago, I knew this would be a spot I'd enjoy. This spot tows the line well, it's not a dive bar, it's not pretentious, and it has the neighborhood bar feel that welcomes those looking for a great cocktail, a simple beer, or just some good vibes with family, friends, or kids. It feels like if a laid back tiki bar combined with a rustic feel. Living nearby, I think it fits the area. Food & Drink - 4.5* They have burgers, wings, friends, salads. All the food is good and I definitely recommend grabbing a bite during your visit. I particularly like their burgers and always grab a cocktail to go along with it. Service - 4* I've had mixed results, sometimes the attention to detail and service times are really good. Others they can be a little long or the sense their focus is elsewhere. Cost - 4* They used to have solid specials but they have dropped off over time. As an example, there used to be BOGO burgers on Wednesdays from 4-9 pm. Then it was 50% off. That's now only 25% off on Wednesday and only from 4-7 pm. They also had half price margaritas and frozen las brujas. This is now 25% off. Tuesday's was half price French 75s and Sazeracs. That's now 25% off. Thursday's used to be BOGO wings, $3 pacificos, and half price daiquiris. That is also now just 25% off wings, daiquiris, and cabana crushes. Fridays is industry night. They offered 25% off the entire food menu from 10 pm-12 am, now it's only 11 pm-12 am and only for the sandwich. Look, I worked in the industry, I know it's tough. I get that it's really tough for bars in Houston to make the margins work when the burdens seem to continue to rise. Landlords particularly are brutal /rant. It's even tougher when a bar is just getting their feet under them. This neighborhood has seen a lot of great additions in the last couple of years and the specials had us visiting more often, particularly when they ran til 9 pm. We now can't make it as often with the cutoff at 7 pm. Ultimately we were spending more time and money during the past visits, but I'm sure the overall margins were thinner for them. Possibly even some loss leaders to get traffic and business in the door. Now that the specials and times have tightened we elected to diversify to other bars nearby. Ultimately, they're all local and have the vibes I look for. Overall - 4.25* I highly encourage everyone to give this spot a visit if you're nearby. It's a great spot with good drinks and friendly neighborhood vibes. I do wish they would make some further adjustments to certain things that I thought differentiated them from others, the 4-9 pm specials was particularly strong as it allowed for the chance to visit more often when many folks can't make it by 7 pm. At least it isn't as bad as some bars, that I won't name that have basically limited their offering to a 1-1.5 hour happy hour (though it is half price) that runs so early that it's shocking how anyone could visit during that small window.

We enjoyed perusing their holiday themed menu and settled on our orders. I decided on the Carol Singer and J opted for the Coconut hot chocolate. I was happy to try these warmer drinks on a nippy day and they were both delicious! I loved the spiced warm cider taste of rage Carol Singer, though the standout of the night was the Coconut hot chocolate. The whipped cream was perfect for giving the hot chocolate Christmas feel while still getting a kick from the rum and amaretto mix. Our servers were attentive and very accommodating. They did inform us of another party coming in to the same table 2 hours after our reservation which was very reasonable and we appreciated the heads up. I've also had the chance to stop by outside the Christmas season and was blown away by the tasty drinks and reasonable prices.
