We stopped in for breakfast on our way through. Both of us had an omelet made perfect! The ingredients were not mixed into the eggs like so many restaurants being lazy do! The eggs were fluffy and thick not thin like a crepe. And they did not skimp on the ingredients. My husband had the garbage and I had the Mexican omelet. The restaurant looked clean and the waitress was attentive and friendly. We were greeted immediately upon entering the restaurant. A group of us came here for breakfast and sat outside on their nice patio. I got their 2 egg combo duluxe that came with 2 eggs, hash browns or American fries and choice of meat (bacon) and toast. It was the perfect amount of food and the American fries and bacon was cooked perfectly. My boyfriend got their Mexican skillet that had chorizo and Chile sauce on it and it had so much flavor!! Stopped by Leif's for a bite to eat on a Thursday afternoon. I have been in past years for breakfast and have been pleased. We've never had lunch here before so I decided to have their house special chicken and dumplings. I was surprised when it came out as this is not how I imagine chicken and dumplings. It was like one huge biscuit with some gravy and chicken. I liked the chicken and gravy but the dumping was dry and too salty for my taste. Next time I'll stick to breakfast! read more

Since the Cookery in Sugar Camp is a different restaurant now I think that Leif's can reclaim the title for having the best hash browns in the North Woods. I like that you can order them with cheese and onion. Over the years I have continued to enjoy this restaurant and the items I mentioned in my previous review from years ago are good and still on the menu. I want to draw your attention to some new items which have appeared on the menu over the years. I especially like the garlic sirloin steak. The oriental salad can be ordered with grilled or crispy chicken and is topped with almonds featuring a delicious sesame vinaigrette dressing. The adult mac and cheese is sinfully delicious and one of the best I have ever had. I also highly recommend the tacos on Thursday. I am so glad to have rediscovered this Northwoods gem and hope to enjoy it for years to come. read more

An above average breakfast place in the north woods. The downside is they will not seat you unless your entire party is in the restaurant, Aggravating if you're dropped off in front and you lose out on the last two tables in the entire place because they're parking the car. Stopped here on Thursday morning June 24 for breakfast along with my wife and two kids. We were promptly greeted and showed to our table. Experienced prompt, friendly service from our waitress. Food was excellent. I had the 2 eggs scrambled, with bacon, American fries, and toast. All was delicious. Son had biscuits and gravy and wife and daughter both had pancakes and all said the food was great. We come up to the northwoods several times a year and this was our first trip to Leif's Cafe, but most certainly will not be our last. read more

Leif's was busy for Monday morning breakfast and, still, were able to provide a space for us within minutes. We overheard the kitchen was short-staffed and we hadn't even noticed! Service, food, and staff were excellent. It seems like a "place to go" when you're in Eagle River and not just the "only place that's open"(on a late season Monday). Leif's is great. Ate dinner here tonight and had a fabulous experience! Due to the preponderance of 5-star breakfast reviews, most of us ordered from the vast array of breakfast skillets. Out of our party of eight, one ordered the Cuban sandwich and one the chicken and dumplings. All of the food was raved about, but it was the service that made our meal truly 5-star! We arrived at 7:30 pm and the sign on the door said they serve until 8:00 pm. Peri, our waitress, was sweeping the floor and wiping down the counter. I thought, uh oh, she is not going to be thrilled with our large party showing up so late. I was so wrong! Peri waited on us like the professional she clearly is, made us laugh, made us feel at home, and never rushed us. The only thing not available on the menu was the broasted chicken. They had just turned off the broaster before we walked in. I asked her if our paying separately would "blow her mind". She pretended like her head was exploding and laughed saying the computer could split us anyway we wanted. What a great restaurant! Don't hesitate to come here for dinner, or anytime! This was our first meal out once we arrived in town. It was very small town country inside. That just made it even more cozy and relaxing. The atmosphere helps you take a deep breath and slow down. I ordered the grilled pork chops with Jack Daniels sauce. It came with seasonal veggies, whichever a California mix. The veggies were good because they were grilled. The meal came with a potato. I selected mashed potatoes. You could choose from a salad or soup. I would say the salad and mashed potatoes were disappointing. The lettuce clearly came from a bag and the potatoes were instant. Really. If you're a restaurant make the effort to cook your food from scratch or include a disclaimer stating that aren't. read more
