Greens were just punched, but they were fluffy which means they aren't rolled very often. Fairways were great, tee boxes were outstanding (not sloped very flat). Course is very long. They should put in tees at around 5800 yds. It's either super short at 5300 or really long at 6470. Nothing in between. That's the reason for only 3 stars not 4. Otherwise, sand traps are fabulous and course is set up really well. Having a par 3 on the second hole is a bad design, but nothing they can do about it now. Will def play again if i return to Oahu. read more

Really enjoyed playing here the other day. Great condition and fair for the price. Plenty comfort stations (nothing fancy). The carts were old and struggled to lock but no big deal. Not a bad course! Fair prices, nice greens and each hole was fun to play. There was a lot of random construction going on that we had to play through (lawn mowers, employees fixing water pipes or something smack dab in the middle of the fairway) and the pace of play at the beginning was a little slow. (Our group of two was sandwiched between two groups of five). But by the back nine we were able to get spread out a little bit better. The carts are creaky and old, lots of cobwebs on the top but they do have a screen that shows the hole and yardage and you can keep score there too, so that was kind of nifty! The carts themselves do a pretty annoying and loud constant beeping noise when you get into "restricted area" which I would understand... if I was actually driving in a restricted area. But I was driving our cart directly on the path and it would go off constantly on the front nine. One time I parked at the tee blocks when the beeping went off and wouldn't stop until I began driving to the next hole. Another time it locked up on us and we had to just put it in neutral and push it down the cart path until it connected better to GPS and automatically unlocked for us. They could definitely use a little sprucing up and recalibration, we will most likely be using our push carts in the future unless we see a change. The pro shop is nice, the bathrooms are very clean and nice which I always appreciate, even the ones along the course! And there is a restaurant there if you need to grab a little something following your round. Great areas to practice your chipping, nice practice green by hole 10, and a driving range. TIPS & TRICKS: * Don't forget your water bottle and fill up at the coolers on almost every hole! * Sometimes the pro shop offers awesome discounts (right now November - December of 2024 is a candy drawing, where you can get between 10-50% off of all your items). read more

Like any course the conditions are different each time we've played. The first time the fairways and greens were impeccable and we were like wow. This time they're in rough shape. Overall we like this course for our level of play for the wide fairways and not an excessive amount of obstacles. Other nice part is they allow 5...not good when you're 2 following, but nice when it's our family of 3 plus 2 friends. Didn't play Leilehua for years. Now have played it 4 times in a month! Still one of the best venues on the islands. The course is in good shape. Hope it makes it through, what looks to be a hot summer, unscathed. The fairways are generous and in pretty good shape. The rough is patchy in some spots, but still very playable. It can be thick right around the greens, but fair. Sand traps are in good shape and have a good quantity of sand (vs local muni cement bottomed hazards). The greens are good. Very subtle breaks vs the 80's Leilehua when everything "broke to the pine fields". I guess when the pine fields left, so did the rule. Also gone, if you haven't played for a while, are many trees that used to define some holes. #3 looks totally different with the giant tree sticking out that really made it a dogleg is long gone. Plus all of the Ironwoods that separated 3 from #6 are just a memory. Looks totally different. The huge tree that hung over #4's right side is gone or cut back a bunch. Lastly, according to my fading memory, the giant tree that jutted into the right side of #14 is gone. Used to give a duck hook players fits. The food at Leilehua was always good. A very cutdown menu leaves some decent choices for post round grinding. Hit 'em straight! read more

A nice course with longer holes than my usual courses so I needed to get my Irons out more often and keep my woods in my bag. The greens are nice and fast and even if the rest is dry the grass is nicer than the grass at Pali golf course or the now closed Koolau. People seem more relaxed and have good etiquette. Nobody riding up and past you if they think you or everyone else ahead are too slow. There was a food truck serving as the concession and a tented seating area. I was about to write a novel about Mr Rude at the club house, but i think there's enough reviews about it. The guy has been here for a long time. And Apparently he's in his 80's. If you feel the same way, file a complaint with MWR. (We did) He needs to retire. Someone wrote a review about them catering to the old timers that golf in the morning and treat the veterans and patrons like crap, and I feel the same way. Older gentleman that works the clubhouse is rude, in no hurry to help, and completely unpleasant to work with. If you're thinking about visiting, don't waste your money. The only people that have a good time are the old guys group that plays every morning. Driving ranger is "mats only today" everyday, no food/dining area, can not start on back nine if you're only playing nine, and practice area is mediocre. I encourage everyone to go to a place that cares about you because it'll be a better time. read more

I'm not sure what it is about Leilehua, but playing here is always a fun time. The course is challenging, the layout is fun, and for me it always feels like I'm transported to another place. It almost doesn't feel like Hawaii. We always say the big trees make it seem like it's somewhere in the mainland. At the course it's normally raining, or wet, which means the course which is already pretty long plays even longer than it normally does. The fairways can get muddy but they are in decent shape. The green complexes are always pretty unique and I would say the greens are better than most municipal places. Because it's so wet they really only do 90 degree rule, or cart path only. This course does get a ton of walking play and can get busy in the afternoons. The earlier you book the tee time the better. If you don't have a full foursome they will pair you up. Sometimes that means 3 guys in a cart and one walker. Usually that's not too bad but sometimes can slow you down. The pro shop staff are always pretty ok with me, but that's mostly because I know what they need from me, name, tee time , payment and ID. I try to make their job easier. I can see how some people would have a hard time with them, or would say they can be rough around the edges but they are usually pretty nice. Trying to book a tee time over the phone is impossible though, thankfully the new online system works really well. The course has a pretty good practice area complete with a covered driving range, a chipping area with a bunker, and a practice green. Great for a pre-round warm up. The restaurant at Leilehua is also really good, just make sure to call in your order if you are going to have some food at the turn. If not you should just wait until after because sometimes the food does take a while to come out. Overall, great spot, will continue to patronize. read more

Why are there so many low ratings for this course? Leileihua Golf Course is a Military golf course that has long enjoyed being considered one of the U.S. Army's premier (Championship) golf courses on O'ahu. Located in between Wheeler Army Airfield and Mililani Tech Park, this 18-hole course features gorgeous views of the Wai'anae Mountain Range. It measures 7,019 yards from tip to tip or roughly 4 miles, "as the crow flies". Of course, I think we probably walk farther as we don't always hit down a straight line, if you know what I mean! This golf course's layout and surrounding foliage reminds me more of a course that you'd see up in the Pacific Northwest than in Hawai'i. There are gentle rolling fairways, fairly large undulating greens and LOTS of trees. Most of the original trees are very mature as this course opened in 1945. I was told that in 2010, this course had been refurbished to prune back the canopies of trees and installation of new cart paths. It shows it as this course is a pleasure to play while still challenging to all skill levels. Through our many years of golfing, we have come here to "work out" kinks in our games at their open driving range where they often allow golfers to hit from the grass rather than from mats (ugh). The range is open with ball dispensing machines that require tokens (which you can purchase from the pro shop) to operate. Green fees depend upon your military status or DoD Civilian status. They offer reciprocal rates with other Services. On the premises there is a fairly well-stocked pro-shop and restaurant. Heck, there have been mornings that we have come here for breakfast, specifically their creamed beef on toast aka SOS then headed out onto the dewy course. That dish really sticks to your ribs and seems to have "powered" us through the course without needing a mid-round snack. This course used to be our "home course" during my working career but we somehow ended up playing the municipal courses with our friends during the past 3 years. Well, looking at the green fees at the municipal courses ($22/18-holes) v. Leileihua DoD Civilian $26/18-holes), I'm going to demand that our foursome return playing here! But man it was fun to be out there and spending time with friends. I do know that this was my first time playing at Leilehua. The course has some challenging holes for the good golfer and a lot of challenging holes for me! LOL Fairway and greens are well maintained and prices are pretty reasonable. Leilehua golf course also has a driving range ($3 bucket of balls) putting green and an area to work on chipping. So if you are in central Oahu and looking to golf, this is a great course to set up a tee time and have fun. read more

This is more 3.5 even 3.75 stars. Above average course that the US Army MWR tries hard to maintain with a more than functional practice area (covered matted driving range, chipping and putting). What keeps this from being 4 star or greater is how difficult it is to get a tee time. An honest and constructive criticism here. They really have to do something about the gentleman who works at the counter: Phil. Much respect to him for still going strong at the age of 81 (as he proudly tells people), but depending on the day of the week, he can be pleasant or downright rude and abrasive. "That's just the way he is" argument can only go so far. It's easier for the locals to tolerate his demeanor because they're culturally aware of the Kupuna concept. But for the vast majority of the first time visitors, just interacting with him can make the golf experience that much less enjoyable. read more

People get the wrong idea of Mr. Park the starter. He comes across gruff but he is the backbone of this course. He has a dry sense of humor with hilarious one liners delivered with a straight face. Precious I tell you. We love Mr. Park what a personality. Today we did the back 9 of 18 first and they are longer holes. No gnats at all today. Also ate and drank at snack shop. Nice lounge to watch the PGA championships too. We like the cooler elevation for the summer. read more

I've been coming here to golf with friends who don't want to drive into town. Leilehua golf course is located in Wahiawa with great views of the Waianae mountain range. I like coming here to play since it is up in the hills where it is normally cooler. The greens are well manicured. In my opinion this is not a hard course as there are no water hazards and ravines. There are no beverage carts, but you can grab snacks from the snack bar after the ninth hole. The driving range is open till 9pm daily. They have 33 driving range stalls, two putting greens, and a chipping green area. Tokens can be purchased at the pro shop for $3 for approximate 35 balls. Green fees for non military are: 9 holes for $19 + 8 (cart) 18 holes for $36 +13 (cart) You can walk if you want burn more calories. read more

Every last Friday a band plays here and we love to come here and enjoy a couple drinks. The first time we came Hoaikane was playing back in September. Second time we came, I brought my 6 year old to hang out with us. If you come early, you're able to get a good seat indoors, the later you come, good luck finding a spot. People brought their own tents and chairs, so I thought that that was a smart idea and a relief that they allowed that option. I don't recall who played last week Friday but it's always a good time here, aside from the food stand. We were given a number and when it buzzed, then our food was ready. Maybe 20-30mins flew by and my little one was anxiously hungry. We went in and they had given it to someone else, WTH! This pregnant mama was livid. What was the point of the device!? Next time, we will literally have to watch them like a hawk while enjoying the music from the other side of the wall lol. Chicken wings and fries are tasty! read more

IMO: Still a great course. Challenging during those off days. Expect slow play being that a lot of brass golf here with the occasional PVT hacker. Holes 2 and 3, have your Mosquito repellent at the low and ready. The greens have improved and they repaved the entrance road since my last visit. The Green Fee is what brings me back. read more

Nice and challenging course since the renovations, especially playing from the back tees. Paid $35.00 to walk as a civilian...not a bad deal considering the rising rate for City and County munis. This is definitely a better value than the 20 dollar muni rate! Greens are tough but fun...Bunkers definitely penal with fluffy WHITE sand. Grass in the rough was left on the longer side, but still very fair. Just make sure you don't even come close to the 1st tee box before the lady calls your name, or she will scold you on the PA intercom nice and loud so everyone can hear. Where is that older guy that used to work here two years ago?? He was so much friendlier. This lady LOVES to scold you....I DARE you to cross her! Someone tell her that it would be helpful to call out not only who is on the 1st tee, but also who is on deck...that way we would know if we can hit a few more putts or practice a few wedges.... In any case, great course, and I'd love to come back. read more

Guy working the shop was attitude from the phone call to the moment we left. Kept telling us "there are so many problems with you guys." Had a comment about my light gray shirt saying it was out of dress code when the sign specifically stated I was in dress code. Then was rude because I had a baby in my arms even though there was another baby already on the green. Ended up getting our money back because his approach towards everything was plain rude. Super unfortunate experience because the course seems fun and came recommended, but the initial experience will definitely kill the mood of the whole game. read more

Review on 18 holes played on 10/23/2013 Leilehua's greens are going through a tough time.... there are many holes that the greens are in such terrible shape that sections are roped off and there are "drop" locations on the green! I have never seen such a thing being done at a course before! Lots of sand and patches of grass trying to be grown on the greens. Impossible to putt on, but hopefully it will be grown out by next year. Other than that, its a good course to play. Not too difficult, no water features or ravines. I didn't loose a single ball, so it shows that its an easy course ;) breezy, yet hotttt so make sure you wear sunscreen. Nice views of the Wai'anae mountain range. The food is just regular cafeteria type food - had the "ultimate burger" which was a regular hamburger with a slice of ham and bacon and BBQ sauce. My stomach wasn't too happy with that... read more

Immediate 4 stars for answering my call when I answered. I called so many courses asking about golf lessons and almost all took my message to call me back at a later time. For an island with so many tourists on vacation, I would expect more immediate response. For a very reasonable price, their golf pro Lou provides a quality lesson without skimping on time. We were there almost 90 minutes for our first lesson, much longer than I expected. Their grill is still undergoing renovations, but they still had food available at a catering stand. I could not provide that 5th star because they did not have ladies left handed clubs for rental. I know I'm a minority, but cmon I just want to hit stuff! read more
