We got there on a Friday night around 8. It's busy. Had 10 people waiting before us. We decided to wait a bit to see. Took only about 15 minutes and we got a stall. So not bad. They do last call for bucket refills an 30 minutes before closing time at 10. They completely close gates of parking lot around 10:30. I've never played the course, so please note this is a review for the food and driving range only. Haven't been to a driving range in a long time, so the prices and the process of getting a spot really surprised me, but it sure wasn't hard to learn. Man, remember when a full bucket of balls was only $3? Those were the days lol The space is open and with the mountains can bring in a nice breeze. I mostly go at night since there's not much shade so that it's nice a cool, although there is also risk of rain, but that's okay because I live in Hawaii! There's just something relaxing about the whole vibe of the driving range. I was sandwiched between a family that definitely took golfing a little more serious than the guys on the other side of us casually drinking soju and enjoying a weekend night with the guys hitting balls. I also appreciate the food here! Makes sense to offer local plates, although I do with the drink selection was bigger (pepsi fountain drinks) since it is a big outdoor environment. Located in Aiea, this is a stand alone driving range, no golf course attached. They have their own parking lot. There is roof over the chairs, but where you hit the ball has no roof and it can be very hot in the afternoon. However, if you go too late in the evening, most likely the range will be full and you will have to wait. There is a restaurant with sitting area, you can eat and drink, pretty good. There is also a small golf shop. The way it works is you go to the office, pay for the balls and you will get a basket and the ticket, go to the machine, input the code and you get you ball, each basket has a number in it, that is the stall you go hit your ball. The good thing about this system is there is no one waiting at you back, you can keep purchasing balls and hit for 5 hours, there is no time limit. , they do have a last call announcement to buy balls at around 9pm or 9:30pm depends on the days. If you're renting clubs, it's cash only as well as the food and drinks. It's open to anyone, although there are big groups that come and will literally sit and wait behind you for your spot. Been going to Newtown driving range for years. It's overpriced at $14 a bucket and I wrote about that before. However, now other places that are worse (like Ala Wai) have buckets at $14 so now we have to reset our expectations here. It's still one of the most expensive - Coral Creek, Kapolei are all $12 and automated - no need to go to a counter. But Newtown has fixed some of their problems: There is covering by the benches. The mats are better. There are spots to aim to. So all in all, still one of the better places to practice. The long lines are indications that this place is needed, despite the higher prices. Had a nice golf practice in the afternoon. It's $16 for a large basket which lasts for a good hour or so. Parking can run out fast, but it was chill at this time. I like the middle stalls, but depending if you slice or hook, you may want to pick the outer stalls. Each stall has a new pergola providing some protection from rain and sun. Their hours are from 9am to 9pm(10pm Fri-sat) with last call an hour before closing, granted there's a waitlist when it gets busy. Very nice range. Open later than most and have bright lights so you can see where your ball is going. Stalls are assigned but when it's not busy you usually can choose. $10 for a basket of balls. You get around 90 balls per full basket to practice your swing. Since I just started getting back into golf, I decided to stop by Newton range to work on my swing. They a have nice layout for hitting balls and prices are relatively the same as other ranges. When you are here and going to get your basket, just let the clerk know which stall you want to hit and order the size of basket you want, full or half. They will get your basket and off you go to your stall to work on that swing. Bonus: if you get hungry or thirsty, there is a plate lunch place right on premise that has some delicious food. read more

I wanted to hit some balls so I headed to Ala Wai Driving Range, but it's temporarily closed. This was where we headed to instead. I think it was my first time as I only remember seeing this place from the freeway. Pretty cool place! You put your name on a list and wait. While you wait, you can get food and eat it on the benches. Once your name is called, you go to the window and you pay for your basket of balls. There's a cool machine behind the building where you fill your basket. $10 for a full basket. That's pretty expensive as I remember when I first started playing golf, a full basket was like $6? Newtown Golf Driving Range is a great place to practice your golf swing. It is a nice range with clearly marked stalls with enough room for each golfer. There's also a lot of space for others that just want to hang out. This last time that we went, there were about 5 stalls or so to the left that were not open, as they're doing maintenance on the range. (Just a heads up, because they do get busy sometimes in the evenings.) They do have some rules, such as no alcohol, which they are pretty strict on. But otherwise, they're pretty cool if you just do what you're there to do, practice your golf swing. We like to come here because it's close to home and less rowdy than the other one that we used to frequent, which has no supervision. There is a food place here. (Which will be another review). But it is useful since they have drinks, and it does get hot out. One thing I don't like though, although it can't really be helped is that when it's hot out, there are ALOT of termites!! $9 for a bucket of fun! What a deal! I suck at golf but do go and hit some balls occasionally for fun or even for stress relief. This driving range is perfect for the Aiea/Pearl City people. On a recent visit, the attendant asked what lane I wanted to take and I said 9. I think he could tell I was novice status and recommended I go farther away from the street and suggested lane 20. Area is clean but the asphalt area under the green and benches could be updated. I feel like if my kid fell there he'd have mean scrapes. read more

I've been going here for years and years. Sometimes it's a good session and sometimes not so good. I have nothing bad to say about this place but it's like another home to me. I've been going to this range for over two decades and have seen the range change hands several times. The current owner has made nice improvements to the hitting area but no longer has a putting green which was a nice thing to have when waiting for a stall. The owner has gone full tilt in upcharging $16 for a bucket of balls during peak hours (i.e., 2pm to closing) so its best to get there earlier than later. I think its time to start looking into buying a golf simulator! LOL read more

Prayed that my driving on the range would be substantially superior to my driving on the road.. but they're about equally bad hehe. It's been a couple of years since I last visited Newtown driving range and finally returned. While the view can't compare to that of other driving ranges, the hours are perhaps its greatest appeal. Newtown range closes at a later time, so those who end work late or just feel like hitting balls in the evening/night may do so. The fact that there's a fair amount of parking is an added bonus. We came in the evening and the conditions were perfect; it was cool and not very crowded. Also, no sun :) It's very casual and there's a nice mix of young, learning golfers and seasoned golfers. The place is obviously old but still in decent shape, and the partitions allow for a good amount of space between the golfers. Didn't realize it before, but really miss the range. Love the sound of solid contact between the club and ball, and enjoy watching the balls fly across the range. Definitely hope to visit more often :) read more

Who knew that a driving range would have some pretty good eats? Well, I decided to follow fellow Yelpers' reviews once again, and since we wanted to check out somewhere new, we pulled up to this spot in Aiea. Korean ladies run this place, and K-Grub is some of my favorite foods to attack, so I ordered their burger and fries. Yeah, it looks like an ordinary burger and fries, but its the hamburger patty where they add their little Korean twist to, and it was pretty good! They have other Korean specialties available if you want more than just a burger. Its outdoors, and there's not much of a view unless you enjoy watching people whack some golf balls. Okay this was my first time ever going to a golf range and there's some definite tips I can offer as a newbie. There are 30 stalls but it's not under a roof or shade so bring a hat and apply sunscreen if going during the day. We went on a Sunday at 2 p.m. and there were only about five stalls in use. Heeding other yelpers advice we brought cash as we didn't know how much golfing we'd do. We got the full bucket of balls for $6 and brought our own driver + putter. You pay for the balls in the Pro Shop and they give you tokens and a basket. You go down to the Stalls and there are two machines which dispenses balls for tokens. Here's the biggest tip: you should buy a fat rubber golf tee from the pro shop cashier and not the wooden pointed tees sold in bags. This is because the mats you golf from have wide holes to put the rubber tees in to prop the ball up. They rent these rubber tees $1.25 for the same price as buying them so you may as well buy one. If you don't use a tee you can't really launch the ball up very high, but it's doable. I had the char siu fried rice from the snack bar and it was really good. The staff was very friendly. Right now they don't have their liquor license and they said you can BYOB. They have a water fountain with cool water. The pro shop has the keys to the restrooms. The women's restroom is in the same building as the pro shop. The men's bathroom is behind the snack shop. The putting green had 6 holes about 10 feet apart from each other and was in decent shape. There's a lot of benches everywhere to sit down and the snack bar has a nice area under the shade.
