Leita Thompson Park is a pretty park suitable for all age groups. I'm saying this after hiking a moderately difficult trail with a bunch of sweet grandmas and grandpas. We did the red trail loop that was about 2.5 miles long. Although located off a really noisy highway, as you go inside the park it gets surprisingly quiet and nice. It's next to the Roswell Art Center and parking can get difficult to find at times. And, there are no restrooms, only porta potties. First visit here and will definitely be back for more exploring! I recently had the opportunity to check out a small part of this Roswell park to take birthday photos for a close friend, and it was the perfect backdrop (along with this epic pink Thunderbird from 1957)! Beautiful, rolling green hills and lots of trees. Can't wait to see what it looks like once the leaves have begun to change color for Fall. Lots of families were there to visit and enjoy a walk or picnic, and there are walking/hiking trails to explore as well. The entire park consists of about 107 acres, including a dog park which I will definitely have to visit next time with my Husky. read more

What an awesome place for a light hike! They have a few different trails depending on the length you want to walk. We took the "blue" path which is only 2 miles. My children (7 and 4) were able to walk the full path no problem. This is NOT a flat, paved path. We brought our stroller and realized quickly that we should have left the stroller in the car BUT we survived the full 2 miles. There are many people walking these trails with walking sticks and many people actually running. It's a great open space for a walk. There are some benches along the way if you need to rest and plenty of maps along the path to show you where you're located and where the restrooms are, etc. we found port-o-potties next to a catch and release pond and they also had two bench swings. Very beautiful park. It didn't have a large parking space but it has different areas to park in along the main road. read more

Considering how close this park is to heavily populated, shopping areas, this spot is a beautiful reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the nearby area. The trails are perfect for a Saturday morning walk or run, well-kept and well-marked. We had such a perfect walk among the trees and leafs and would highly recommend if you're looking for a a spot to escape into nature without having to drive into the mountains. read more

This is good natural park in busy Roswell. We use it as a hiking workout on the several trails here: Red 2.5 miles, Blue 2.0 miles, Yellow 1.1 miles. There also is a dog park. Our normal route is two loops of the Red trail which gives us nice 5 mile hike. The trails are in great condition and even seen worker blowing leaves off the trail one time. Lots of trees here. Small stream running through the park, and lake on the Red and Blue trails. Neat pavilion at the starting point of the trails. There are several maps posted as you walk the trails, so you know where you are. Also markers indicating how far you are on the trail. See my pics for examples of these. Today we had six energetic hikers that completed the 5 miles. Afterwards four of us ate at the nearby Panera Bread (see separate review) and the two carnivores in the group ate at Five Guys which is in the same parking area. Everybody was happy with the hike and food. Leita Thompson was a wonderful person that donated this land. She also helped a lot of women with apartments on site. I drive pass this place at least 3 times a day have never taken the time to explore it...recently I had a few hours to kill in the area and decided to check the place out. First of all it's a beautiful and serene place in the middle of what is a pretty busy street. The park was donated by Leita Thompson who was one of the first female banking executive in the country. She bought the 108 acres in 1946 and her benefactors donated the land to the city of Roswell in 1978. Last year (July 2016) it was reported that a person was attacked by a rabid coyote in the park. There are signs on the bulletin boards warning people of this. Always have your dog on a leash. According to the CDC only 23 cases of human rabies have ever been reported in the US from (2008-2017) so it's not a common thing...but it's always good to stay on guard... The park itself is beautifully maintained. There are beautiful statues and plaques honoring and celebrating the life of this obviously generous and pioneering woman. It's a wonderful addition to Roswell's impressive growing number of parks....well done guys... read more

Love this little trail. A decent amount of inclines throughout which is great. Lots of twists and turns. This feels much more like an actual trail than some others we have visited recently. This trail is not paved, but pretty well traveled so the terrain is pretty even. Every 0.25 mile is marked and every few markings is an actual map. The trail itself is a little over 2 miles. There is a stream and a lake - adorned with some swinging benches. It is a beautiful trail and we will be sure to return. Pretty well covered with trees, too. There is a parking lot and an overflow lot. We did not have trouble parking on a Saturday morning. Super dog friendly - but some inconsiderate dog owners for sure. We passed not only poop on the floor (which we stepped in), but people just discarded their poop bags as well. There are benches and trash cans throughout so really no reason to not just carry the poop bag and throw it away. The park also provides poop bags so really no reason for this. Otherwise, it was a really beautiful morning in this little gem. Looking forward to returning soon! read more

Great place for a leisurely hike. Mostly pretty flat. The trails were maintained well and weren't too crowded on a Monday in July 2021. Well-shaded due to the trees. Even when it rained, we didn't get too wet. Dog-friendly. Lots of parking. Follow the overflow parking sign through the trees for even more parking. read more

There is a huge cell tower being erected in the center of Leita Thompson Memorial Park. When Thompson donated the land to the city of Roswell, it was to remain a park. They've been using that spot on the park as a dumping ground for years and now they're putting up the cell tower. read more

Would love it if they added some mountain biking trails to the huge amount of land they have and I'm sure RAMBO (Roswell Alpharetta Mountain Biking Association) will be willing to create them. Woodstock has two sets of trails and Roswell has one and lots of parks. The off leash park entrance needs better maintenance as does the parking lot there. Filing in some of those holes and the washout that happens at the entrances would make it a lot safer. It is nice to have such an extensive walking trail area & art building, but there are many others who would use the park if you added the riding trails. read more

I come here with my father when I'm home from college. I love it, and every fall we bring the dogs for a little walk/run. It's a nice place to take your mind off things. The paths are very beginner if you hike but it's nice for just a family walk. read more

Great place to walk off your winter weight with their shaded hiking trails. Wouldn't recommend letting your dog swim in the lake, as the water is pretty stagnant and the catch and release fishing policy leads to wounded organisms and greater bacteria buildup in the water. Yummy. Very family-friendly. A great place to take your child or kid birthday party for a nature scavenger hunt. Watch out for snakes by the lake lodge and in the tree hollows. If you come here late in the day, you will often see deer. read more

This park is absolutely beautiful. I took my dog there for a little adventure and had so much fun. They have fenced in dog park areas for off leash exercise as well as trails. Big enough to where it doesn't get stale and you end up walking or running the same path over and over. You feel like you are in the mountains. This is absolutely one of my go-to parks now. read more

A wonderful park. A great place to hike and observe nature. Those place is very picturesque with a small stream, little bridges, a pond, and big trees.I met several people along the way and everyone was pleasant. Very little trash so that is awesome. I would describe the hike as one of the more challenging ones in the area. They also have a large dog park which can be very busy. It has two sides. One for big dogs and one for under 25 pounds. If I lived closer I'd be here all the time. Highly recommended. read more

I love that the trail is natural and we can go for a good walk without being run over by bicyclists, roller bladers or other "wheeled" nuisances. I love to fly kites and the website says you can do that but with the power lines on 92, I wouldn't dare. read more

Right off the roaring mini highway that is Woodstock Road is this gem of a city park. You might be lured in by the pretty gazebo, rose gardens, and fountain you can see from the road, but this tract is actually over one hundred acres of park land, complete with lake, horse barn, dog park, forest land, and even a Visual Arts Center complete with classroom space and gift shop. Once you head off on one of the longer trails, you soon can't hear the cars at all, and once you get into the trees you really feel like you're somewhere in the North Georgia Mountains rather than North Fulton County. The trails offer varied terrain, but are all very well marked and well maintained. What makes this whole complex even more special is that the whole thing was a donation from the park's namesake. What better memorial could there be than such an incredibly beautiful property preserved for generations to come? read more

This place is a little gem located off Highway 92, not far from the intersection with Hardscrabble Road. It's not a national park or anything, but it provides several miles of pleasant walking trails throughout some beautiful Georgia scenery, and there's plenty of parking. Today, we started our stroll past a large oak tree filled with kids hanging from its branches, hiked about a mile to a small lake to sit for a bit with some families trying to catch (and release) some fish, and then hiked out past the dog park, where little and big dogs alike were enjoying the beautiful weekend. If you need a place close by to escape from life for awhile and get some fresh air, this is the place. read more

I would like to find out more about Leita Thompson to thank her and her family for leaving such a magnificent property to the citizens of Roswell! Another Yelper complained that she couldn't push her baby's stroller through the wooded trails. Boo Hoo to you! Roswell Park is two miles away and has two playgrounds for kids and a 1 1/2 mile paved trail, restrooms and parking. People...this is nature. It isn't screwed up by us yet! It has over 2 miles of heavily wooded trails and is a moderate walk through nature's beauty. I just discovered this park recently and I have taken my dogs there the past two days(they are asleep from happy exertion!) When you walk these trails you can forget all the other crap that we have to deal with each day. This is a free trip back to mother nature. Enjoy it and thank Leita Thompson and her family for not selling the property to Wal-Mart! (I have not used the dog park. The yelper who states that there is no shade is correct. I have used this park many times over the last few years. I do some trail running here where it is about a 2.25 mile loop. There are some hills so it makes for an enjoyable run. I have taken my now 5 year old daughter here many times just to hike the trail and she loves it. Even though the park trail is closed at dark we have dipped on to the path a few yards in to catch lightening bugs. On the weekends it is quite common to see weddings or photo shoots at the west entrance near the pavilion. Only reason I can't give this park 5 stars is the dog park. We used to use it religiously but every single time I brought my big lab she came home with fleas. Most pet owners are responsible about picking up when their dog takes a dump. Overall an excellent park. Perhaps they could treat the grounds in or around the pet area to prevent fleas? read more

What a wonderful oasis of serenity. We come here at least 3x a week for the walk and dog run. Wish the large dog section had more strategic seating and shade. Maybe a picnic bench type of seating towards the back section. Dog section needs more gathering spots for people. read more

I 2nd Ken K.'s review! This is a super great park. My youngest loves to run and the trails are wide and open for us to run side by side. The area is safe enough to let him run ahead. The shade is excellent and the hills and views can't be beat. There are benches along the trail and a creek and lake to enjoy. There are also distance markers and three options for shorter or longer walks/runs. Oh, water fountain in the parking lot. There are also some great well hidden Geocaches within the park. read more

Love this place for walking the trails. Came here with my friend and my two kids. It was very flat and easy for my 3 year old. I also like that they have a covered area with benches. My kids loved sitting there and watching the cars go by when we were waiting on my friend. No giant waterfalls, but a good flat path. read more

THANK YOU MS. THOMPSON! Yes, this park is a great little secret. It is tucked away on Highway 92 between Sandy Plains Rd and Hardscrabble Rd. It located on the north side of the road. Although I have passed this park many times, I have never stopped to visit. Yesterday my daughter and I decided to check it out. The park is named for Leita Thompson who was a business woman and philanthropist who created the Leitalift foundation to support women. The memorial pavilion is beautifully maintained and speaks of Ms. Thompson's life and contributions. This a very quiet and contemplative park with nice natural trails. It is the perfect place to come if you just need to get away from it all and are seeking a little solitude as you walk. We were only able to go a short distance on the trail because it was getting late. But, "don't get it twisted", because you will get a challenging work out. The other reviewers are quite accurate in their assessment of the type of people you will meet on your walk, hike or jog, (warm and friendly). A great park to enjoy anytime but especially during the heat of the day. I only wish that I lived closer. read more

Great place for walking/hiking. The dog park is a good size and divided by the size of the dog (under 25 lbs on one side, over 25 lbs on the other). The trails can be a bit steep and may leave you a bit winded. Everyone I've ever met along the trails has been as friendly as can be. You will see walkers, runners, and dog walkers mainly, but occasionally there are also kids with their parents. All in all, a hidden gem that I can't recommend enough. read more

Just moved to Georgia and we were looking for a place to take our dogs for a nice long walk . Found this place and it's a nice 2 mile walk for most of the trails. One of the trails leads to a beautiful small lake . Also there are informational plaques on what kind of tree a certain tree is and also how to identify tree leaves . Great for a morning workout, take dogs for a nice walk , and/or take the whole family for a nice walk . Definitely recommend this place . read more

very nice park and right off HWY 92/Holcomb Bridge. Convenient for people in Marietta, Woodstock and Alpharetta. It even has a nice lake where you can fish. It is catch and release. The longest loop is 2.5 miles of up and down hills. They even have a porto potty near the middle of the hike by the lake if you need one. Nice place to chill and stroll. read more

I've done a few photo shoots here but never walked the trails. Well, we finally had a glimpse of spring so I laced up the shoes and went for a walk! The trails are amazing! They are easily marked and with perfectly shaded trees to keep the sun out while you're getting your sweat on! I will be coming back like every afternoon when it's not raining to hit the trails. Such an awesome little spot in a populated area to be out in nature. Makes you almost forget that 92 is right there with traffic! read more

This review is for the dog park. It's wide open and on a hill. There isn't any shade and there are very few places to sit. They do offer water for the dogs and the parking lot is just outside the gate. Probably won't frequent this park that often however given the right circumstances I'll be back. read more

I love this park. I don't like the dog park area. They need to do a lot of work with it. The walking trail, though, is amazing. The trees and bridges are well maintained. The fishing pond has improved greatly with a new fishing deck. Security is good. It could be better, at times, but when the sun is setting, the rangers are active in the park. read more
