Some of the best hot chocolates I've ever had are from chocolate shops (makes sense) so I had high hopes. The price was quite reasonable I think for a premium hot chocolate, $4.99 for a dark hot chocolate with Mayan spice (cinnamon, cayenne, etc.) added. There was an option to add whipped cream and marshmallows but I opted out. The cocoa was excellent - delightfully chocolatey and definitely spicy - it definitely had a kick. I would order again in a heartbeat - maybe it's a good thing for my body that I don't live that close to Plymouth. They also have a nice array of chocolates, very similar to classic chocolate shops. I bought a couple of dark chocolate covered cherries and dark chocolate honeycomb chips for my mother and she loved them and she can normally be very picky about these type of chocolates. She said they were very fresh and the cherry flavor of the chocolate covered cherries was excellent. These were probably her favorite chocolates she's had in the last ten years or so. Alpine Chocolate Haus was definitely a winner and we'll be back whenever we're in Plymouth.

The woman working today was very helpful. Although I declined, she was willing to pack their dog-friendly white chocolate bone in bubble wrap to take on the flight home. They had run out of their prepackaged dark chocolate truffles, so she suggested that I pick and choose from the display as it was the same price. Not to say it isn't inedible ( that would be a 1 star review) but with how strong the flavors are it isn't preferable. This applies to all the flavors and other items as well. The other items such at the truffles are hard, not due to anything like nuts but because the chocolate isn't made to be soft yet stable. Getting something like Lindt truffles from a grocery store far beat out the truffles here unfortunately. This trend is continued with the other items available as well, nothing hits the spot and is either too strong or too weak in flavor and texture.

Tons of dried beans are imported to Michigan, which is then roasted, shells removed, grind, mixed and tempered to shape as a bar, bonbon and other holiday shapes. Each bar individual bar is priced a bit higher than the commercial chocolate late because DWAAR chocolate has a higher percentage of cocoa and much darker in color. The chocolate maker / owner of DWAAR chocolate is very passionate about her product. Be assured the she creates the highest quality of dark chocolate you can find only Michigan. The owner received an award and was featured in magazines, online and tv. I wish in the near future she will be able to mass produce and supply chocolate discs that can be melted and used as coating in fruits, chips, apples and pretzels.
