We had the misfortune of drawing one of the worst administrative law judges in the entire country for our SSI hearing, who was notorious for denying deserving applicants. She made multiple errors in her denial, but our original representative, as is the case with many disability attorneys, had the policy of never appealing beyond the administrative law level. I conducted an exhaustive search for an attorney who would take over the case and appeal it in Federal district court, but was turned down again and again. Most of them said they couldn't win the case. I suspect they lacked the experience, expertise, and patience to pursue a case at the Federal court level; most disability lawyers just want to churn out easy cases and collect a quick payment. I had almost given up when I found Leland Law, who agreed that the judgment was flawed, and agreed to take the case. They not only won the case on appeal in Federal court, but won it outright, as opposed to having the case remanded to administrative court, which is typically the best you can hope for. I called them to discuss my SSDI appeal case and they asked me to send them disability documents which I did the next day and I heard nothing from them for a month. When I called, they said they are still "reviewing my case". I called 2 more times and got the same response. I finally gave up and contacted another lawyer. They did not even have the decency to tell me that they could not take my case and wasted valuable time waiting for them. I needed a disability lawyer to help me with getting approved, spoke with michael keating once, hard to believe this company is given 5 stars, received a call from an associate telling me they could not take my case. I was never given a reason why, just told me they couldn't take the case. They won me 5 years retroactive pay, and retroactive Medicare benefits because my medical records warranted disability into 2014, SSDI would only go back 5 years. I filed for SSDI in Jul 2012. It was denied, I appealed, and denied again. I have numerous mental and physical health issues specifically failed cervical and lumbar spinal fusions. Please be advised that my wife and I had a very negative experience with the first attorney we engaged to handle my wife's case. My wife has a fairly simple diagnosis of traumatic brain injury which made her eligible for SSDI. The first attorney was slow to return phone calls. She only met with us once, took our deposit check, and then asked me to collect questionnaires from two of my wife's doctors. The forms she gave me were copies of copies, which made for a sloppy presentation. I was embarrassed to hand such low quality forms to our doctors. This first attorney's relatively minor effort to help us with our first appeal ended in failure. We fired her after not hearing back from her after repeated calls to her office. One of our friends who is a prominent O.C. attorney recommended the law offices of Judith S. Leland to us. In dramatic contrast, Michael T. I initially reached out to this firm back in 2017 when my doctor and myself started discussing my disability. I don't remember who I talked to when I first reached out but this firm was very helpful in the steps I would need to take to going on permanent disability. Fast forward to 2019, I reached out to this firm again after I was denied SSDI. I called in to set up a consultation and the receptionist remember that I called in inquiring back in 2017 and set up an appointment with Carla. From the start, Carla was very helpful with going over everything with appealing my denial. She was very attentive and understood why I could no longer work due to my medical condition. From the first meeting, I provided any/all documents needed to assist with my case. I understand people can get frustrated and impatient with waiting for a case, but this firm explained to me that it can take up to 2 years to get a case and to be patient. I would check in from time to time and see what the status of my case was and I was provided with updates and no matter who I talked to I was assured all was well. I would also provide updates to my attorney to let them know of changes and provide all updated medical records to help out my case. I received calls from Mrs. Moselle Leland who was more than helpful with providing updates on my case. I get times are hard with COVID and the courts being delaying cases but again be patient as the attorneys and staff are on top of things. Before my hearing I got a call from Enrique informing me he would be handing my case moving forward. Enrique is very understanding and answered all my questions and calls. I was nervous as my case was coming up 9-21-2020 and he walked me through everything that I was worried about. He was very up front and told me that I have a solid case and that I have a strong chance with my case due to my medical condition. The day of my hearing, the judge asked me a few questions as well as the medical expert. My attorney called me right after the hearing and told me it looks like the judge would go with a fully favorable decision. I got my decision a week later and it was fully favorable. A waste of time. We have an autistic son who was recently denied SSI benefits by Social Security. Medically, there was no dispute. His denial was financially based. Specifically, they incorrectly counted his being a beneficiary on a 529 college fund as a resource. I explained all of this on the intake forms. My consultation was supposed to be with Alexis, but she was not available. Met with Jennifer instead. She had probably not reviewed the intake forms since I had to explain all of this again. She said that she would talk it over with her boss. A week later, I get the call that they do not handle financial cases and provided me with a "referral" that was even more useless. If you do not handle financial denials, put that on your website so you don't waste everyone's time. Or better yet, consider helping a special needs kid with a fairly straightforward case. Don't rule it out just because it is financial. read more

My father researched this office and heard good things. I'm giving 3 stars because they did put some effort in approving my case and winning the case last year. The problem is their secretary is so rude. They do not want too deal with you after they win the case for you. I asked if they inputted my direct deposit information and they kept saying yes, yes. I won't be receiving a check once I won my disability case, my back pay should come direct deposit form. I had signed up for Post office photo delivery of what comes too my mailbox. Come too find out SSdi did send a physical check in the mail and it got lost! (October 2020) I kept calling this office too let them know but their response was, they didn't believe me... Wait, wait, wait... I told them SSdi sent a check too me instead of direct deposit Their response. "There are other people who waited longer" This February 2021 was when they believed my check was lost sort of... they do not want too admit error but yet gaslight me a person with a rare disease and cause more stress upon my life. Yea I still have not received my back pay and I refuse too speak too your office again. Thanks for winning my case though, since you did that guess it was okay too dehumanize and for all your staff too talk down too me and Not believe me. It's been over 2 years. I was sent to a medical office from SSDI and I thought I was in tijuana. 2 x-rays on a 1970 circa machine and 1 ekg that took an hour to do, due to it being just as old. Suction cups duct tape. ...I kid you not. Off of these 2 tests I was determined Healthy and did not get recommended for disability. Even though I am going blind, I have congestive heart failure, diabetes with neuropathy of the legs, and I've had several heart attacks. I also have extensive damage to my lower and upper spine. I am on morphine and Norco and always in pain. But here's the nitty gritty after refiling from these lawyers an appeal, they said it would take over a year before I get an appointment with the judge. Everytime I call and ask my status I am just told to be patient. Nothing to reassure me that something is getting done. It's been over a year and probably for months since my appeal and I'm tired of calling just to get an excuse and left feeling stressed that I have no means of taking care of myself and have to rely on my parents and I'm only 46 years old. I would never recommend this lawyer to do the job that I was hoping for. read more
