The service was extremely good. Our server, Van, was pleasant, efficient, and understood details. However the food was assembled, not cooked, to order. In fact the food came out faster than the hot sake. I would guess the fried tofu, the panang sauce, and the rice were made days before. Old and dried. I asked for spicy number 4 and it was 2 at best. I'm shocked at all the positive reviews cuz I've been many times and never received good service. Only reason I keep coming back is the decor is beautiful plus good drinks and food. Today my server took her personal calls on speaker on the floor and I could hear all her texts coming in. Didn't ask if I needed anything else and just handed me the bill. I don't usually give bad ratings but my visit today, August 14th, deserves a low rating. My complaint is with the owner and her rudeness. I ordered $95+ for takeout. All dishes were ordered with Tofu because I don't eat meat or seafood. I live 15 minutes away and had to wait 40 minutes for pickup. Still not a problem. I understood it was a large order and had no issue about the wait. The problem came when I got home and we began eating. Halfway through my Indian Curry I discovered I was eating a shrimp dish. I called and explained the problem and asked for a refund and had to drive back to prove the dish was incorrect to get a refund. ( 30 minutes round trip) I went back, right away, and the owner came out and gave me a hard time. When they tried to refund my AMEX card they had to go through a special credit refund system that was giving the restaurant a difficult time, about my refund on my AMEX, and so it was going to take a while. I suggested they just give me a cash refund so I could go home more quickly. That was what was finally done. I feel badly for the waitress because she wrote the order correctly. I wasn't upset that there was a mistake but I am very irritated about how the mistake was corrected. The owner was just plain nasty as if I had done something wrong. I understand about smaller portions and higher prices because of the Pandemic. What is not understandable is how rude the owner is to a longtime and loyal former customer. We eat inside or order takeout at least once a month. Again. the waitress was courteous and it was not her fault and if the owner hadn't so rude towards me I wouldn't be writing this. read more

One star is for the accomodation of our party of 7 on a Saturday night....it wasn't very hard considering there were maybe 3 other tables occupied. They even split the bill for us. One star for my friend's green curry, it was really good. The deep fried shrimp were palettable too. But the drinks?! GROSS, too sugary, just not good at all. I sent mine back after taking one sip. I feel like Lele in Gig Harbor has REALLY taken quite an unfair beating here on Yelp. I'm not sure why exactly, though some reviewers seemed predisposed to dislike it simply because it's a sequel, so to speak, and they've gone there armed in advance with an assumption that it will be inferior to the original Tacoma location. (A condition that could perhaps be called "eating while snarky".) Some of the issues people complain about are things I myself have never once encountered in multiple, multiple visits. Small portion sizes are a particularly good example of this. The truth is that the sizes are plenty hefty, and you should plan on leaving feeling pleasantly--possibly even regrettably--full. Sometimes my husband and I just order a couple appetizers and one entree between us, and waddle out the door feeling stuffed. In fact, for a really reasonable $12.99, the sampler appetizer is crammed with enough food for two people to be well on their way to spoiling their appetites before the entrees even hit the table. The quality of the food is excellent! We haven't ever, ever been disappointed when we've gone there. Everything is supremely tasty. Their tom yum soup is super-flavorful, their pad thai is always great, as is the basil delight. And the mango sticky rice is freaking awesome! (FYI, they haven't printed up new menus yet with this dish on them, but you can get it if you ask for it--and you should ask for it, because if you don't, you're missing out on some serious happy yayness.) The ambiance is also great, particularly at night when they have their piano player in. He's really good, playful and fun, and has a great voice. My husband and I are disappointed when we go for dinner and he's not there, because his presence adds a nice element to the place. If you haven't been to Lele in a while, you should definitely try it again. The inside was a bit rough around the edges when they first opened, but now it's polished and well-decorated, and they've expanded the building, adding an attractive lounge area (which is where the piano player does his thang). As far as prices go, they're plenty reasonable when you factor in quality, quantity, and the appearance of the restaurant itself. It's intended to be a higher-end eating experience than you're going to have at, say, Wok II by Albertson's. Ugh. The boyfriend and I were headed to the movie theater next to this place and decided to grab dinner beforehand. For once I went off convenience and didn't check yelp before eating somewhere and man do I regret that decision. The thai iced tea and coffee were good. I think that may have been the only good thing about the meal. We started off with the LeLe Special Appetizer. It came with spring rolls, fried squid, chicken sate, and fried prawns. I started off grabbing a fried prawn. The boyfriend swears that they were coconut, but I never tasted any coconut. I took a bit out of the prawn and got the strongest and stinkiest "seafood stench" I've ever gotten from a shrimp/prawn. It smelled so awful I couldn't even finish eating it. He said the squid was a tad overdone and chewy, but after the prawn I didn't even attempt it. The spring roll was good, but those are pretty hard to screw up. The sate was plain and boring. The peanut sauce on the appetizer was good but their "hot chili sauce" was more like sweet and sour warmed up. Overall for a $12 or so appetizer it was pretty awful. The main dishes came out shortly after the appetizer, which is always frustrating. Luckily, my main dish was hot so it didn't matter that I wasn't quite ready for it yet. I ordered the Peanut Sauce rice dish with chicken. I requested 3 stars. I'm pretty sure they only put 1 star on one corner of the food. The sauce on the dish didn't taste at all like peanut sauce and I ended up stealing some off the appetizer dish and mixing it into my meal. The portion was ok, but for the price of the dish I would have expected something much more delicious. The boyfriend got bulgogi. I was surprised when I stole a bit of his meat that it was merely room temperature and seemed like it had been sitting for a while. The veggies on his plate were hot, but the meat wasn't at all. The meat was super salty and smokey tasting. The smoke tasted like it was faked and overall it was just a disappointing dish. The service was mediocre at best and the only thing this place had going for it was the decor. However, the booths were divided by "windows" that were open. So the two booths felt like they were pretty much joined and you may as well have been sitting at their table too. The food is good. But let me tell you about the service. We stopped in on a Monday night 90 mins before our movie started at the theater next door. We saw our wait person three times. When we were seated. When he took our drink/dinner order and again 45 mins later to apologize for the wait. He told us that they only had two cooks on tonight. He did not apologize for never stopping by in that 45 mins to tell us there would be a delay, or ask us if we wanted another drink. I have been dining at Lele's in Gig Harbor for the last 8 years and rate it as one of my favorites in the South Sound and certainly in Gig Harbor. The staff is always friendly and the food is delicious! They have a great menu selection and the portions are quite generous. The restaurant has a very welcoming lobby with comfortable seating area when waiting for a table or for pick up. I always find the restaurant very clean with an upscale look. I haven't felt sticker shock like that EVER. It is one thing to go to a fine dining restaurant and expect $20 plates but a Thai place in a Gig Harbor shopping mall??? The boyfriend and I enjoyed a $40 tab having soup and one noodle dish. Nothing to drink, no appetizers....nothing. Any vegans, veg heads or those with allergies should also be weary....my server was unable to fully explain to me what animal products were in my dish (if any). As a previous restaurant owner.... I implore the owner to read these reviews and make some changes. Listen to your customers. A) The TVs playing sports is tacky...get rid of them B) Your prices are so incredibly inflated that there is absolutely no reason your costs should be so high. If your rent is to high and you're compensating, by all means find a more reasonable location that allows you to be competitive. Perhaps you don't have a grip on your kitchen and you don't understand food costs?? Then FIX that. I can tell you it is not the costs of your food! C) Know your cuisine and know it well. Are you a Thai restaurant or a Vietnamese restaurant? If you are fusion then state that and broaden your menu. Your business model is shaky at best. Fine dining prices, sports TV, with a nice bar????? So many Opportunities missed! If I had checked Yelp before hand....I would have gone elsewhere but I failed. Now I know better. We had been wanting to try Lele for a while and really wanted to like it. For context, understand that we know and love Viet Namese food. My partner is Viet Namese American and his sister and husband were with us. The food was OK. Not spectacular, but OK. $15 for a bowl of Pho is not OK. That's about $10 above the price for a great bowl of Pho. We had friend squid as an appetizer and it was fine. I had the "Swimming Angel". I liked the peanut sauce. Very peanutty with a hint of coconut, but not too much. My partner had Mongolian noodles. Good, but not spectacular. The dividers between the booths are just not enough. The flavors of this restaurant are good. The prices, however, are too high. I ordered the pad see ew and it was defintiely different. It was like a lighter soy version of the dish, with emphasis on the chili oil. Not to say it was spicy, because it wasn't even at 4 stars, but they just focused on chili seasoning instead of soy. I'm used to this dish being a brownish color, it was more reddish. The dish itself was good, just not the pad see ew you may be used to. The plating was good, and the portions were large. My viking friend left full and I easily ate half my plate with the other half for the dinner I just ate. Some lady behind me ordered this gorgeous dish served in a noodle nest. It was very cool looking and I had mild plate envy :) Other than the pricing being about 5 dollars too high per plate, the experience here was nice. Good food, pretty ambience. If you don't mind dining in other peoples filth, than look no further. Yep, I stand by my first review of them years ago. I was have a Pho craving and caved in and went there with my boyfriend. It's Sunday after the lunch rush, and the place is a pig sty. They have one dude taking care of the entire front of house and he can't clean off ANY of the tables, he was clearly insanely busy. Meanwhile, the cook comes out and takes a break to eat something near us, not helping the guy out of anything. Jesus. If it's that dirty where you make people eat, how dirty is it back where nobody sees dude. I shake my head... I wandered into the place because of the signs in the parking lot... a great marketing trick. And that was my impression of the place- a trick. It has a beautiful interior and I found the wait staff to be very polite. HOWEVER... I ordered the panang curry with chicken. When it arrived at the table, it was a green sludgey bowl with potatoes and other vegetables in it. I was, at that point, ready to admit defeat as if I had read the description in the menu incorrectly. I grabbed a menu and looked at the entry- red curry paste with blah blah blah. I got the attention of the employee and now had to have an uneasy discussion about my entree. I mentioned that I thought I had ordered panang chicken and had been served massaman instead. She said that their panang was a little different than most places. Yeah... nothing like telling a person from her own country that the entree is screwed up. She went back in the kitchen and said yes that was the red curry paste panang chicken and that the chef had tossed in some potatoes today. Keep in mind the dish was GREEN... like spinach green, There is no amount of basil in the world that would do that to the color red. Came here really only to try the banh xeo, ended up getting bulgogi papaya salad, more bulgogi on a rice dish, and cashew chicken. All dishes were so delicious! The banh Xeo was stuffed with yumminess! And it's the only place around here that you can even order it. And it's worth coming back for more! I've never had papaya salad topped with bulgogi and I enjoyed it so much. And it's served with a side of sticky rice! Yum! The rice dishes were also delish! Service was awesome. Our server, Scott was very attentive and made our experience the most delightful experience I've had in a restaurant in a very long while. He brought us out a finger bowl with warm lemon water and napkins to wash our banh xeo covered hands! He boxed all of our left overs for us and was a pleasant guy to converse with. I always want to try and give this place another chance, but when I do, I still end up disappointed. They're the only place in the harbor that serve Pho and it's nothing to write home about. The broth needs more flavor! For Pho being $11.99, I would expect it to knock my socks off. Unfortunately, it just makes me sad inside and at that price, it's worth driving over the bridge to get something better since you can get better pho for half that price. So at half the price, plus the toll, for better pho? Totally worth it. Also, I usually call the order in and they say it'll be about 15-20 minutes. From slow service to unethical billing practices, we are NEVER going back. Not to mention they are overpriced. This past weekend we had a party of 9 (+ 3 kids). The good: We have a friendly male server, the atmosphere was nice and there was plenty of room for our group. Most of the food was also "good"... The Not so good: Many of us ordered spring rolls. Theses rice-paper wrapped lettuce rolls should come out within 5 mins or so at any typically restaurant. Spanning OVER an hour, these were brought out to one person at a time with an average 15-20 between each one. No one received their food at the same time, or even relatively close. One person ordered an egg crepe and was served a heaping plate of lettuce wraps for it more than a half hour before the egg dish. (So just picture us all talking with hardly any food and this one lady staring at a plate of large lettuce leaves for a half hour). Why wouldn't that be brought WITH the dish? Close to 1.5-2 hours after sitting down initially, most everyone had their main dishes. While everyone else was almost finished eating, one person was still without her main dish and had to request that when they finally brought it out, it just come already packaged in a to-go dish! The food concoctions were also not what you would traditionally find in Vietnamese dishes; maybe because they've mixed a flare of Thai into the Vietnamese? There were celery sticks inside the spring rolls, and mushrooms in everything! Not bad per se, just different. Now for the billing: You guessed it! It took forever to get our bills. Then to add insult to injury, that "automated gratuity" for a party of 8 or more was ROUNDED UP!!! What? My associates stated that the menu states an 18% gratuity. So why did everyone end up with a 20% gratuity on their bill? And with the ridiculously molasses slow service we received, that 20% (or even 18% was NOT earned). But wait...there's more! Lele's also sneaks in a nice little 'card usage fee' if you pay by card rather than cash. But, if you pay with cash like one of my associates, you may find your server making change out of his own pocket rather than the till. Yes folks, you heard that right. Not only that, but when the server didn't have the full amount of change to give back (albeit it was a 4 cent difference) he presumptuously and resentfully remarked to her that *IF* she wanted, he could go get the 4 cents from a register. This the register that he had stepped around the counter from (still in the same 5 step vicinity) to provide change from his pocket. In conclusion, NONE of us will ever be back to Lele's in Gig Harbor. Make your own decision folks, but you've been advised~ Thanks for reading. read more

Pretty gross & just not impressive at all. We ordered takeout-- a Vietnamese Rice Noodle salad with pork, Pad Thai with chicken, & their Summer rolls. They charged us for the Summer rolls, but the rolls were not in our bag. When I called to ask about them, they said, "oh, well, can you come back?" I said no, because we were home by then, and they said, "okay". The two entrees we got were pretty bad. The chicken pad Thai was unlike any I've ever had... I don't really know exactly how to describe it... Just oily, bland & yucky. The salad was fine at best. Very boring. Meat was icky. Overall, it was just not very good food & certainly poor service as well. With a bill at almost $40, I will never go back there and I do not recommend this place to anyone else. read more

Don't waste your time!! We were passing through town and needed to eat. I was hungry for Thai food and the place looked nice from the outside, so we went in and found a seat. The waitress came over in a relatively short period of time and took our order - and then the waiting began. We waited and waited for our food. The restaurant wasn't very busy because it was after 8:00 pm, but the food never came. By that, I mean it never, ever arrived. After waiting for nearly 30 minutes, the waitress came back and said "I just checked, they are starting on your food now. It shouldn't be long." After 30 minutes, they were just starting?!! If only that had been true. We waited another 15 minutes and finally just got up and left. The waitress hadn't even been back to check on us after she told us our food "was on its way." Waiting 45 minutes is just unacceptable, especially since there were 5 different servers working. We crossed the parking lot and had ice cream for dinner. It was quicker, we were starving and we had to get back on the road. As bad as the service was, we probably dodged the bullet on the food. As we sat waiting, we looked around and noticed that the restaurant was super dirty. The tables that didn't have people sitting at them had food spilled on them (like food scraps sitting on the surface of the table), and most of the empty tables had dirty dishes sitting on them for over 20 minutes. We also noticed that no one had finished their food. And there was stuff piled up everywhere. There was an empty table next to us that they were using as a bussing station and it had empty take out boxes, napkins, containers with silverware and lots of other stuff piled on it. The counter next to the cash register had notebooks and other stuff piled on it. The restaurant looked like hoarders lived there. I don't even want to know what the kitchen looked like. The food has always been over priced, however, they were local owners and so we supported. Now, they have increased their prices and their service is dreadful! The dishes are dirty the last three times we have been; lipstick marks on the glasses, dried food, etc. The server put food she was delivering to a table on a DIRTY table with old food and dirty dishes! It took over 20 minutes to have our two drinks brought to our table. We will not be supporting this business and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Overpriced. Weird curry. Nice interior. Nice waitstaff. Had the green curry and it was good for something myself or a friend might have made at home pretending to make a green curry. I mean, it was food and tasty but it didn't taste like green curry. The vegetables were cut very large and they selected an odd bunch of veggies...my guess is these veggies were cheap for them: sliced carrots, broccoli, huge chunks of celery and onion. We went here for lunch today. I ordered some things that I usually order at other Thai restaurants. It was not very good and extremely salty. I ate several bites of it, trying to make myself like it, and could not. I don't think I even ate an eighth of it if that much. I told the waitress I did not care for it at all and that I didn't want it and I would split my daughter's food with her. She said OK and took it away. At the end of the meal she still charged me for it, although she did take 30% off, and I asked her about it I said, how can you charge me for something I didn't eat because it didn't taste good? She told me that if she didn't charge me for it, they would take it out of her pay. Not a very good customer service place. The food is not good and that doesn't seem like a very good way to do business. I started a Yelp account just to write this review. I have been trying to like this place ever since it opened because I love the Tacoma location so much, but it is not to be. I have visited the Gig Harbor restaurant no less than two dozen time and have not had even one good experience. You probably wonder why I kept going back...... I work nearby and I loooove the peanut curry sauce that comes with the phad thai. Here are just a few of the reasons I will never go back.... I mean it this time! 1. My mother and daughter went in during the switch between lunch and dinner. They were seated at the only remaining table without a table cloth. When my mom asked for a table that was set, the waiter informed her that he "didn't want to waste a table cloth". So she left. 2. I asked for extra peanut sauce fand was told "I don't want to waste a dish so when you're done with what you have you can ask and I will refill that dish". I'm all for conservation, but that was just plain wierd. He also never returned so I could get my refill. 3. The waiter sprayed chemicals on the table next to me and the spray came over to our table and food. When I asked if she could do that later, she responded "Uhh ok" and finished cleaning the table (with spray) even though the place was empty and there were many other available tables. 4. I have received the wrong food (mainly meat when I ordered tofu) in my take out orders on multiple occasions and have never received an apology of any sort. In fact I have been treated as though I didn't actually order what I wanted. 5. The food is subpar, not even close to real Thai food. 6. The place is always understaffed and those who are in the dining room treat you as though you are bothering them. They are often covered in stray hairs or cologne and are all around unappetizing to eat around. This may sound harsh but I have never tried so hard to like a restaurant and received such consistently terrible food and terrible service. Wanted to grab dinner after a movie date with my boyfriend and decided to try some Thai food so we came here and in my honest opinion, it was amazing. From the warm decor, to the traditional Vietnamese music, professional service, and delicious food We were feeling a bit adventurous so we ordered completely off of recommendations by our server. For appetizers we shared- le-le special appetizer (a sampler dish) For entrees- my Bae had the golden cashew and I had crispy noodle (looked like a birds nest) For desert: banana flip (one of my favorite things in the world now) Overall the food was like nothing we've ever seen before. I love everything about Le Le. Best food and professional service. The price os might be a concern for some people, but I think it is value for money since the portion was huge. I had fried rice and my boss had Spicy Beef Noodle. We can't finish even half of the portion and the taste was so authentic. I'm Vietnamese and the food just gave me a feeling of "coming home". The good: modern decor, nice ambiance, clean restrooms, live jazz on the weekends. The bad: wait staff was only "ok", pricing was only "ok, and the food was only "ok" (my Thai lemongrass lacked serious flavor and my friend's four-star curry was more like one and a half stars). The ugly: my bubble tea was much, much too sweet, and barely had any boba. Our water glasses weren't filled often and it took forever for them to clear empty plates from the table.
