I'm going to keep this brief. We used to come here under previous ownership and it was great Thai cuisine. Under new ownership, they have pulled some Thai staples off the menu such as pra ram and Thai iced coffee. We decided to stay anyway and while the food was good, it wasn't exceptional. For two people we paid $130 after tip and only had one alcoholic beverage (a $7.50 beer). We left with only enough leftovers for a small snack for one person the next day. Look, it's good food. Customer service was friendly and attentive, and the menu options were pretty good and extensive. Now for the food, we ordered the fresh rolls as an appetizer along with the special prawn dish, spicy eggplant with tofu, and basil fried rice. The fresh rolls were tasty and had a good amount of veggies, I especially enjoyed the peanut dipping sauce as it paired well with the appetizer. The special prawn dish was okay, I felt it was a bit bland, and didn't have a good variety of vegetables. It tasted alright with rice but I was hoping for more flavor. The spicy eggplant was quite disappointing and didn't have any spice at all. It was nothing to rave about and I did not enjoy eating it. The basil fried rice was possibly one of the better dishes, but overall our meal was very underwhelming. While customer service was pleasant and satisfactory, I will say portions of each dish was good and we had leftovers. However, the meal was not very good, and I was hoping for more flavor. I was surprised that we were not asked about spice level when ordering our food, as that may have helped a bit with the overall flavor or quality of the food. I generally enjoy eating Thai food and this dining experience was not the best unfortunately. I was hoping the entrees would be more tasty. Sadly, I am not sure if Lemongrass Thai is worth visiting. I am unsure if this restaurant went through a management change but given the new menus, staff and delivery options I am making this assumption. This change happened recently and I have tried three times to give them the benefit of the doubt but I will no longer order from here and will find a new Thai restaurant. The curry doesn't come with rice over delivery. You must pay extra. Absurd. The meat is the worst cuts and inedible. And the flavors of the dishes are blander. The food was fresh and delicious. When you take a bite of the rice, you can instantly tell it's fresh because it doesn't stick to your mouth and was soft. The spring rolls were tightly wrapped and easy to grab and dip with the lightly sweetened peanut butter sauce. Egg plants were also yummy with the veggies and the shrimp dish also. So sad to share, this is just not the same anymore. Lemongrass was somewhere we would eat almost once a week. I got feedback and I'm going to be as detailed as possible so maybe they can fix it. The chicken satay was rubbery, I used to be able to pull it off the stick and apart with my fingers, I had to use a knife. I tried this item twice thinking maybe it was just a bad batch...same result two different times. The fresh rolls have not changed but the peanut sauce, a staple that brings the dish together, is just awful now. It used to be sweet, nutty, smooth...but there is something added that is just not appealing. It is chunky and it tastes like someone added a pack of mccormick taco seasoning to the mix, maybe cumin? I don't know, it's not a good flavor mix. 2 other favorites, the Panang Curry and the Thai BBQ chicken just gone, removed from the menu. These were staples :(. Perhaps this is for the best, at least I can remember them for what they were. I ordered the red curry as a replacement for the Panang and the majority of the contents were sliced bamboo. The sauce was not emulsified well and kinda lumpy in appearance. Coconut milk, curry, oil...all separated. Definitely needed more time and attention in the pan. The taste though was the worst, the bamboo was not well rinsed and added a dirty fish water taste. You know the flavor, the smell hits you before the taste. I see this in Ramen sometimes when they get a bad batch/can of bamboo. Well this dish reeked of it. The Pad Kee Mao was a new try and we ordered it with beef. The rice noodle was over boiled, turning to a creamy paste before getting to the end of the dish. We ordered it with beef and several of the pieces of meat had to be spit out as the ribbons of fat and gristle running through them could not be chewed through. The flavor had something else going on similar to what I can only describe experiencing at sushi restaurants when they use a blow torch to sear the top of a scallop or piece of fish on the roll, it ends up tasting and smelling like propane. No idea why this flavor was present, maybe something to do with their grill? The last dish we had was the Kaprow. The flavor of this dish was good, not much difference than before. We got the chicken, which was ground chicken. The only difference on this item was it did not look like the picture, the green beans were cut up into tiny almost unrecognizable pieces so it did not add any crispness or freshness to the dish. I also had a large piece of a pepper end and stem in my portion. This was not a cheap meal, the prices are high and the portions were smaller. As I mentioned, I am sad to write this review...and even more disappointed that this place is allowed to keep the name of a restaurant that clearly no longer exists. read more

Really sad to be leaving this review because this has been such a great restaurant in our community for so long; however, under the new management, the quality of the food has gone down, the menu offerings have been slashed, and this is no longer the same restaurant we loved. We've been back multiple times since ownership changed, and have been disappointed each time. The portions are not the same for poorer quality, and as someone with food allergies I've been made sick by being told repeatedly my dish was gluten free but being served gluten and we were given a meatless dish with chicken in it. We were also told a gift card would not be honored since it was gifted to us under the previous owners (despite there being no signage, warnings, etc). The service staff is still excellent and I'm sad to see the rest of the restaurant going downhill when the people there make it great, try to fix any problems from the kitchen, and are always so welcoming. read more

I ordered the lunch green curry with white rice from Lemongrass in Livermore, and this was hands down one of the worst meals I've ever had. The curry was unbelievably salty--so salty it was almost inedible. But the absolute worst part was the rice. The "white rice" they gave me was clearly old, dry, and chewy, like it had been sitting out for days. I literally couldn't even eat it. When I called the restaurant to let them know, instead of apologizing or trying to make it right, they blamed the chef for using yesterday's rice--as if that made it any better. The lack of professionalism was shocking. If your staff admits they're serving old food, that's a huge problem. I will NEVER eat here again. Lemongrass is definitely our favorite Thai restaurant in Livermore, or any place outside Danville. Given the number of options, that's saying something. I like the quiet atmosphere that lets you look out the big front window to First Street. I had to ask them to turn down the bass-heavy music, however. The Wife ordered her standard pad see ew, with Thai tea, and was very pleased. She noted that there was plenty of egg in the dish, which she likes. I ordered an emerald curry that used the green curry sauce, from the specials menu. It contained prawns, scallops, chunks of salmon, with pumpkin and tomato. It was excellent, paired with a Concannon Pinot Grigio (nice pour!). This will be the place we go to the most in town. read more

Lemongrass Thai is our go-to spot for Thai food, even though we have to drive from Pleasanton. We usually get it to go so round trip it takes over 45 minutes just for the drive but it's worth it. We order a bit extra so we can eat for a few days and the food is always delicious and fresh every bite. The staff is very polite and accommodating even though they are always very busy. My husband, mother-in-law, and I came here on Memorial Day as the place we were planning to go was closed. I love Thai food and have a few favs in town, but we were downtown so we decided to give this a go. I had been before in the past and it was alright, but I figured I'd give it another try. We ordered the green curry with roti as an appetizer. The green curry sauce was good, but the roti was incredibly greasy which I didn't really love. For a meal, I ordered yellow curry chicken with brown rice. Mine was good, but a little too sweet for me. I felt it could use a little more spice and less sugar. My husband ordered the masaman curry, and he didn't really like it. We had masaman curry all over Thailand and absolutely loved it, but their version was absolutely nothing like any of the variations we'd ever tried before. I tried a bite and actually felt like it had a very rancid, bad taste. I would not have been able to eat even a full bite of it, and my husband left most of it on the plate when we left. My mother-in-law ordered the tofu pad Thai, and she enjoyed that. Looked really good. All this to say we probably won't be back with other exceptional options in town. read more

Tom Kha soup 5/5 - the soup was really good. The coconut milk and lemongrass flavor and the warm soup was comforting. I asked to add steamed tofu and it was good. Ka Grapow chicken 3/5 - the dish was good at first it tasted bland but we asked for spicy sauce and it helped with the flavor. Panang Curry 3/5 - I think the dish did not have a lot of flavor. I had to add my soup to my rice to help with the flavor. Plus the portion looked enough but it literally has like a couple bites of chicken in it. Overall, soup and appetizer was good. But, the main dishes were bland and lacking in flavor. It was ok. I had better Thai food in Livermore but they are located right at the downtown area. It's worth a try. read more

So here's the thing, I haven't really tried curry before. So I'm not sure the difference between Thai vs Indian curry. However, the red chicken curry here was delectable. Yet another food my boyfriend has yet to try in his life and now loves lol. We ordered the cashew chicken also and we both thought it was super good! The review is about a to-go order. Today was raining. I was nearby and wanted to give another try for this restaurant. Their food is not the best but is fine. It was the last order before they closed for the night. I ordered Emerald curry, Tom Kha chicken soup, vegetable deluxe and brown rice. When I got home, the paper bag was broken and everything fell out on the garage floor. The curry was leaking, luckily it was inside a plastic bag but it was a mess. And the worst was the brown rice was missing. It's really another very bad experience. I love Thai food and really want to enjoy it when I'n traveling around. I hope the restaurant will consider to hold heavy food with double paper bags or a plastic bag; and reminds the staff to double check the food order. Everything was served hot and fresh, but the taste was simply mediocre. The noodles were flavorful and not too sweet. I love the fried tofu because it absorbed the sweetness for me and did not feel overpowering. Unfortunately, the chicken was a let down. It was a bit bland and had no flavor. I felt like it did nothing for the dish. That Ice Tea: Not sure if it was my driver or something, but it tasted really bland. I didn't get any Thai tea flavor at all. I know it was raining cats and dogs on Sunday, but it tasted like I was drinking rain water. Oh well, maybe a dine in experience might be better.
