When I tell you that I was on the hunt for authentic Chinese food in Livermore when I moved here, I was on the HUNT! And then i found Sai's T. I know they market themselves as a Vietnamese restaurant and they have really yummy Pho, but their Chinese food selection is huge. As a Chinese American I know real Chinese food vs. Americanized Chinese food when I taste it and this is the real thing. I have never had anything bad from Sai's and the owners are the most kind people ever. The wife, who does all the service, will remember you and how you want your food exactly! Many times, you don't even need to order because she knows what you want. Once, I was craving a very specific type of vegetable but she told me it was out of season. A YEAR later, when the vegetable was back in season, she remember I asked for it once and shared that they have it available and made it to my exact liking. Sai's was my go-to place for lunch when I worked in Livermore. Luckily, I survived my years of servitude and retired in January of 2020. Every now and then, my wife and I still make the pilgrimage to Sai's to see our friends and enjoy a meal. This night we ordered: Asparagus Prawns - 5 - When the ingredients are fresh and you know what you're doing, the resulting dishes will be delicious. My wife is particular about her asparagus, too skinny is not acceptable. It has to be medium to fat, and of course, not woody. I'm more particular about my prawns. I can't stand overcooked seafood! Bitter Melon Chicken - 5 - Bitter Melon can be soaked in water to remove some of the bitterness before cooking. Then you want to cook it so it's no longer crunchy but not so much that it's mushy. Sai's always does a great job with it when it's in season. Oyster Pancakes - 4 - A slight downgrade because of the size of the oysters. Maybe I'm simply greedy but I want more! On the other hand, the egg was well seasoned, tasty and not overcooked. Sesame Balls - 5 - These were fried a little darker than usual but that just makes the sesame flavor pop! So happy we were in town so we could visit our favorite Vietnamese restaurant in the Tri Valley. The owner, Fong, and her husband are quite the duo! Food is consistently delicious, fresh, and served piping hot. Our all-time favorite dish is the basil chicken over rice. I have not found this dish tasting like this elsewhere and I often crave it. We decided to of course order this dish along with a vermicelli bowl with pork and imperial rolls. The vermicelli bowl (aka bun) is a lovely combination of umami-rich flavors from the protein, rice noodles, lettuce and other veggies. There is a light sauce that you can pour over the dish, as much or as little as you prefer. The egg rolls and grilled pork round out this dish nicely. The basil chicken, as anticipated, was incredibly delicious with a nice subtle heat. What a wonderful meal. Fong is friendly, courteous and so hard working. She wants to ensure you have a nice dining experience. I appreciate that she will come over to chat when she's not too busy. We always try to visit this restaurant when we are in town. I like this place more with each visit. It's a hidden gem with an excellent chef who really knows how to make flavorful, outstanding food! It seems more Chinese than Vietnamese but maybe we just need to try more dishes! We had the beef chow fun - (juicy with beef and beefy sauce) and the Chinese broccoli special with ginger and garlic. It's sliced vertically upwards through the stem which ensures tenderness. I didn't want to stop eating it! Pot stickers were nice and hot. We've had the spring rolls, which are good. My friend and I always try a different appetizer to share but we both agree their chicken wings are the very best! I don't know why the best Chinese food in Livermore is found at a Vietnamese restaurant, but it is! We've been craving high quality, high-flavor Chinese since moving here, and while it's not a Szechuan restaurant by any stretch, the Chinese dishes here are really really good! I can highly recommend the beef with Chef Chili sauce, and the Salt and Pepper Fish! The beef chow fun is excellent too. I've only gotten a combo plate of Vietnamese food so far, and the BBQ pork over rice and Imperial rolls were also very good. Also, the service is excellent! They have online ordering, and when my husband went to pickup the server was very sweet and kind. When she heard we had the toddler in the car, she insisted that she'd bring it out to us, and next time just call and she'd bring it right out! Everything is well packaged so the fried items don't get steamed and mushy, and it all arrives still hot and fresh. I can't wait to try more.of the recommendations from the other reviews! Heads up though, the salt and peppers prawns are full head-on prawns, and while I'm sure this is a bonus to many, it's definitely NOT what we were looking for. I guess we eat here too often! There are several items here that have become our go to. If we are sitting down to eat my husband gets the pho. It's not the best in the world but it's good. The star and we must get every time is the salt and pepper fish! So good. We've had salt and pepper asparagus there as well and it's a good substitute if you don't do fish. The chow mein, it is on the greasy side so we don't order it often. If you love veggie you must try their chop suey, ask for extra bean sprouts. I promise you won't be disappointed. I decided to give this restaurant a try today for lunch. I work on the other side of the fwy so I made a call to see if they would take my "take out" order. They did, so I went ahead and told the nice woman on the line that I would be there in less than 5 minutes. I arrived, went to the register and I was warmly greeted. I paid for my food and within a minute my food was ready. I was extremely pleased with the experience but waited to get back to work and eat. So when I tried the food, I was very pleased with the portions and the food was very flavorful. I kept it simple and ordered a beef chow mein. Huh. Very disappointed with the quality of food. I called in a to go order, a beef stew, seafood pho and empirical springs rolls. I asked for glass noodles instead of egg noodles and the restaurant was not able to substitute. No problem. At pick up, the server/front counter lady told me that they don't do glass noodle. Since the menu states that empirical rolls are made with glass noodle, I inquired why they can't just substitute it and up charge me for it. No good explanation was provided. Every pho place we visit, I always order the same thing if available. Which is a beef stew-chunks of actual beef in rich red beef broth with carrots. This beef stew was nothing like it. Super blend broth, a tiny amount of what tasted like lunch meat beef and noodles that instantly fall apart, becoming almost like a mashed potato soup. The seafood pho was below mediocre, absolutely do not recommend. My wife and I ended up tasting the food and throwing it away. Will be going elsewhere for dinner tonight. We enjoy exploring new local places and this one was a miss. $40 for the 3 things ordered. read more

Ignore the negative reviews, this is the best Chinese restaurant in Livermore. (Yes, it's technically Vietnamese, but they feature a lot of standard Chinese restaurant dishes.) Everything we had was incredibly fresh and served piping hot. The pot stickers were the best I've ever had: crispy yet chewy and the filing was spiced perfectly. The Mu-Shu pork, sesame chicken, and the tomato beef chow mein were equally delicious. I've been to mainland China several times and, yes, these dishes aren't "authentic". I found this place on Yelp while trying to find a Chinese restaurant for Lunar New Year that was also near Shadow Puppet Brewing (happened to be their stout night). I wouldn't have noticed this place otherwise since it's kind of tucked away. TBH, I was a little skeptical since they offer both Chinese and Vietnamese food. I'm so glad I went because we've found our new go-to restaurant for Chinese food. I've been disappointed by a lot of the other Chinese restaurants in Livermore. While I like Uncle Yu's style of Chinese food, we usually just go there for special occasions due to the price. The owner here was so warm and friendly. She even suggested we move to another table so we'd have more space for all of the food we ordered. The prices here are also very reasonable. There's a large menu so next time we'll try out the Vietnamese portion of the menu. read more
