That's an insane deal. The jerk chicken is smoky, juicy, and lightly spicy. I will say the portion size could definitely be better. It wasn't enough for the amount of rice you get. I loved the Veg Doubles; it was well-made but not as fresh as I've had in other places. It lacked some chutney and filling but still good flavor. The Chicken Pie was a good try too; it was a bit dry but I enjoyed the flakiness of the pie and even the chicken had a good kick to it. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked the Cassava Pone. It's dense, sticky, and earthy with a nice coconut flavor. The Solo Pop was also the right drink to wash everything down with. My experience at Lena's was most pleasant. I was excited to have found a place that serves excellent Trinidadian food. I thoroughly enjoyed my doubles--the filling was so fresh and the chickpea mixture as well as the chutney was bursting with flavor! And the scotch bonnet pepper sauce was oh-so-fresh and supremely flavorful! It was the best doubles I have had in my life! I got a dhalpuri roti stuffed with pumpkin and it was out of this world! The regular size is massive!! I would suggest getting the small unless you are really hungry. Regular curry lamb roti, dhalpuri, hot. 4/5 meat was again super juicy. However, really under estimated the spice level of hot. Chicken double medium spice, these are the perfect size, theres a sauce to it that has a nice freshness. The chicken is tad dry. I have had doubles from other restaurants before, but this could be one of the best I have tried! My family would agree as well. Then, we tried the Dark Chicken and peas inside a flatbread called Dhalpuri and goat and peas inside an Indian flatbread called Parata wrap. These were massive and filling! Lastly, we could not leave without trying the Jerk Chicken on rice, peas, and coleslaw. Simply a complete Caribbean food experience. They also let us try their newest ice cream flavors: Pina Colada, Soursop, Mango, and Coconut. We couldn't agree which one was our favorite. You have to try them all when you visit! Finally had a chance to try this place! The food was very flavorful! I ordered the roti to be mild, but it still had pretty much heat. There were nice big pieces of meat and the food was tasty. Parts of the roti had a bit of a "fridge/freezer" taste, so I'm not sure if it was made ahead of time...but the sauce kind of masked everything. Despite that, I enjoyed the meal. We have passed by this location hundreds of time, but never thought of visiting. In the area, so decided to stop by. Lunch time in a Saturday so wasn't that busy. The owners/managers knew by the questions we asked of this dish had any eggs/dairy/meat etc that our visit was the first. Spotless and clean inside and service was amazing. Ordered a small channa and aloo (chickpeas and potatoes) roti roll with a paratha and a regular channa and aloo roti with daal roti and made that extra spicy and finally a veggie platter. First the veggie platter we picked Okra, spinach, eggplant and raw jackfruit. The okra, spinach were really good and the eggplant was OK. The jackfruit (kathar/kathal) was the best. Would have loved more jackfruit pieces though and perhaps bigger chunks rather than tiny pieces. The rotis were delicious. The chickpeas aloo top notch, but too runny to eat in a wrap. The extra spicy roti was hot! Good hot that stayed with me for a long time. The owners threw in an order on phulories in the house as it was our first visit. They are the best we have ever had. A slight crunch on the out and soft inside. These ones had garlic and some herbs in them that was amazing. As if we were eating fried garlic bread! Place tend to get busy at lunchtime but dead in between. Prices are a bit high for what is offered on the menu but they do have discounted daily specials every day. This location used to be called Radica's. Now Lena's. But even though it seems impossible, the goat curry is better than before!! We had a goat curry (medium) in a roti and a goat curry (mild) on rice and peas. With drinks $40.00. The curry was more savory than before with more gravy. The goat was very lean and juicy. The roti layers were very nicely paper thin like a crepe with the peas / dust between each layer. The rice was authentic and moist with peas mixed in. Great place! Good service! Plenty of seating! I absolutely love Lena's! I discovered this place 5 years ago and am happy they are still opened for business during the pandemic. They are only open for take out and do require you to wear masks when you enter so be sure to be prepared. They also prepare the food very quickly after you place the order over phone call. We ordered 2 doubles, a small Channa and potato roti and a regular sized jerk chicken roti. It all came to $25 and we had left overs for lunch the next day. This time around I ordered The jerk chicken and the lady who brought it outside said "good thing you ordered jerk chicken cu we just made a fresh batch!". The jerk chicken was absolutely disgusting, the chicken was slimey, the smell was horrible and the taste was pungent -- it was so bad that I had to instantaneously discard it outside -- this was not fresh meat AT ALL. Hi Yelpers! I came here after work one day to see what their jerk chicken is like. Let me tell you.. it's good! But not my cup of tea. The rice and peas had plenty of sauce.. drenched. It is flavourful but not my type. The chicken though.. so tender the meat just breaks apart easily. Love it. But the sauce again isn't that good. Difficult to describe.. more so salty but bland? The coleslaw was good.. very wet though. However, the lamb roti I had was good! That I ate quick. So I didn't get a chance to take a picture of it. While the signage is the same the preparation of some menu items have changed and food does not taste as good as my earlier visits. First disclaimer: my expertise on Caribbean cuisine is quite limited and hence why I decided to try this place out. I ordered a large Jerk chicken with roti and spice level hot and all throughout I was like But that's completely on me because they did warn me that their hot is pretty hot but my brown ego thought I could take it. One thing I noted is that one of my friend ordered jerk chicken with rice and spice level hot and it wasn't as spicy as mine with the roti. I don't know why, but perhaps the rice neutralized some of the spices? Anyway, I still enjoyed it because I asked for a coleslaw with my order which neutralized mine. My other friend ordered the Jerk chicken with rice and spice level medium and it was really good! So I would suggest to take their spice level quite seriously lol. Only reason I am taking a star away from this review is because the wait time for an order of 5 dine ins was 25 mins which we weren't warned about. Moreover, the Jerk chicken my friend ordered with rice came with almost no gravy. At first we thought it was perhaps supposed to be that way, but we saw another similar plate with quite a bit of gravy and then decided to point it out to our server who later brought more gravy on the side. I would definitely be going back but would obviously not challenge myself and stick to medium. The prices are pretty decent averaging to about $12 person with a beverage. The ambience and interior is not the greatest it's the quality of food that keeps it busy all the time. read more

Attending a meeting in Meadowdale and happened to discover this little gem. The place was packed with a long lineup of people My group ordered doubles, jerk chicken and I got the meat roti. It was decadently delicious. Being a connoisseur of hot food, I ordered hot but was cautioned to go with medium. They have several levels of heat and the recommendation was perfect. The price was reasonable, restaurant was clean but I found the portion to be a bit small. It was filling for me but for a big guy, I recommend going for the regular size. The owner who took our order was coming around asking if everything was okay which is not common in small restaurants. They care about their customers. A must visit. First time trying Caribbean food and I love it! The duck curry so very good- flavorful, soft and juicy meats. The nice lady in front suggested the Dhalpuri so I got it- sooo good!!! Nice flaky bread with layers of thin roti and granules of yellow lentil. The only thing that irks me is the styrofoam plate and plastics fork/knife! You have two options for roti, paratha or dhal puri, and an assortment of different meats to choose from (ex. Chicken, goat, duck). Of course, there are a number of items on the menu as well worth exploring. I had the goat roti and doubles, which came out rather quickly. I started with a fork and knife and gradually progressed to eating with my hands - a necessary change. The food is amazing! I found the meat portions very generous, and the meal was filling and super flavourful. Will definitely come back again to try more things in the menu. I was passing by at noon on Saturday and noticed Lena's is now open on weekends! I was having a BBQ at home with a few people later that day but have been wanting to try their dhalpuri for a while now. I decided this was a good opportunity to pop in and grab some take-out for my guests to sample. When I walked in, the place was empty (likely because people don't know that it is now open weekends) but I was welcomed by a very friendly and knowledgable woman who helped guide me on what to order. I decided on a sampling of 2 rotis (I chose dhalpuri style rather than the plain paratha style). I decided on one channa roti which is filled with chickpeas and potato ($7.99) and one boneless chicken ($9.99) and a side order of 2 "doubles" ($1.90 each) per her recommendation which are also filled with chickpeas (they do have chicken doubles if you prefer over chick peas for an additional cost). The food came out very quickly (I sat at one of their many tables in the restaurant while I waited). The food was nice and hot and brought out by another very friendly woman at the back. The rotis were huge! And the doubles were so delicious (filled with chick peas but they also have chicken if you prefer meat). The doubles were well worth it for less than $2 each. I could have one of them as a meal and be satisfied! I personally preferred the chick peas but my brother enjoyed the chicken better. I found the chicken a little dry but I am not a big meat eater so that could be just my viewpoint. I absolutely enjoyed both the doubles and the channa dhalpuri so would highly recommend. The owner was very nice and let me sample a few things before I selected what I wanted and he even threw in a free double for me. The food was good and the service was really nice. We took the food to go because we know the restaurant gets extremely busy. We came early around 1130 before the lunch rush. I went to the Lena's in Ajax today. Now I have been married to a Trini since 1977 and visited Trinidad three times. I am well experienced in making and eating doubles and aloo pie. This was the worst I have ever tasted. I had to two out $17.00 worth of food purchased from this location. The Aloo Pie was so over cooked you could not bite into it. Worse was the taste after cutting one open with a knife. The Aloo Pie comes with, what the call, Tamarind sauce inside. It has a sick taste that cannot be described. I also purchase one each of Shrimp Double and Goat Double. In both cases the dough was not fluffy but paper thin and raw. The double with shrimp had exactly two pieces of shrimp that were rubber, and tasted dry and stale. The Goat Double was just a mess and awful. I will never go back to another Lena's roti. Authentic delicious trini food, one of the best in Toronto. Love their doubles, goat in dhalpuri, and veggie platter with the jackfruit, mango, callaloo, chick peas, and okra with bus up shut to dip.
