LendingTree is a classic bait-and-switch scam. Their banner ad on the New York Times website promoted 2.75% for a 15 year mortgage. I was trying to refinance our home over 15 years. The loan-to-value would be less than 50%, we aren't taking any cash out and I have a FICO score over 800. If anybody can qualify for the 2.75% mortgage, it should be me. Instead, the best rate offered was 3.4%; not even close. LendingTree sells your information to a bunch of high pressure lenders. The non-stop calls and emails from the companies mean you can no longer answer your phone. Thank god for caller ID but when your phone lights up with the warning, "Suspected Scam or Spam," that's a good sign that these are people you don't want to do business with. What lendingtree does,THEY RUN A HARD CREDIT PULL ON YOU!!!! It is of course written in tiny print, and if you are like me and need glasses to read, it is very difficult to read the tiny print. I have the same complaint as everyone else. This is bordering on harassment now. I just wanted to check the current interest rates with various lending companies. I entered my information and within 30 seconds my phone started ringing off the hook. I'm talking one call after another, less than one-minute apart. This went on for almost 3 hours! The frequency died down, but it continued all day. It's now the next morning, and starting at 8am, my phone has rang at least once every 5 minutes for the past hour. I received a ton of emails as well, but at least those are easy to delete and ignore. Lesson Learned - PUT A FAKE NUMBER or just flat out skip this service. Yikes. read more

Lending Tree shared my personal info with dubious companies without my consent, leading to harassing Phone Calls. Background: I clicked on an advertisement on the yahoo mail app on my phone. It was about loans offers and I was curious. The link led me to a form where I filled in some information. I was just browsing for rates and had no intention of actually applying for anything. I did not even complete the process because I was asked to provide my SSN and I did not wish to provide it. So I just closed that screen. In a few minutes, I started getting multiple calls and emails. I had to tell each of them that I was not interested. Some of them were downright rude and kept pestering me even though I told them I am not interested. I never consented to allow Lending Tree to share my information with anyone. But they went ahead and shared it. It appears they will keep sharing the information to other parties. This leads to harassing phone calls from multiple organizations. There is no way to stop the sharing in the Lending Tree website. followed what others suggested on the internet and changed all my personal information on the Lending Tree website. But my contact information would have been shared with a bunch of lenders already. So I expect to be getting more calls. I submitted this complaint to the BBB and I am waiting to hear back. That sucked. When I signed up to get Lending Tree, they asked for my phone number. I kid you not, when I hit "submit," my phone was ringing BEFORE I got any results on my screen. My screen was literally loading when my first call came through. And two more calls started ringing before the first one was done ringing. And my phone hasn't stopped ringing all day long. I made the mistake of submitting a request for "rates" and instead I was barraged with calls from lenders that Lending Tree had "matched" me with. One, Wyndam Capital Mortgage, was professional and I believe legitimate. Others were not. I tried to cancel, but Lending Tree makes that very difficult: 1. There is no place on the Lending Tree website that mentions or directs you to how to cancel 2. I asked "How Can I Cancel" in a "frequently asked questions" box but received no answers. Questions about loans all received fast responses. 3. I called to cancel, waited on hold a few minutes then reached someone who agreed to cancel my "account" and notify the "five" lenders I was "matched with. But I received calls from way more than 5 lenders and asked how to cancel all. The agent contended Lending Tree only matched people with only five lenders. 4. I asked to be transferred to the general counsel's office and the agent said "one moment please." She then transfrerred me to an endless loop of advertisements for Lending Tree, and I help until the line went dead. She obviously sent me to a line where people are cut off after waiting on hold for a long time. 5. I called back and never reached anyone -- just an endless infomercial for Lending Tree, and was eventually cut off.Lending Tree probably has a way to detect the number I was calling from and routed me to be cut off when I called back My experience with this business was unsatisfactory in every way. I recommend that anyone seeking a loan or to refinance their mortgage contact lenders individually, such as banks and credit unitonsand try to deal with someone on a personal basis. read more

My wife is in the market for a new car. Our credit union gave us a pretty good rate on a new car loan, but I, thinking it the prudent thing, decided to shop around. LendingTree.com advertises that it searches multiple banks at one time and I thought, great, what better way to see if we are getting a good rate than to use lendingtree.com. We entered the year, make, model, and trim of the car we are looking to buy, a 2016 Honda CR-V, EX-L. I though, this must be even better - we'll get rates on the specific vehicle! Nope... no - LendingTree returned with offers from BMW, Jeep, and Carmax - NOT A SINGLE HONDA DEALERSHIP... On top of that - I now seem to be spammed with used car dealers - not even financial institutions. Not only did LeandingTree not return a rate that was competitive - it has now subjected me to spam from used car dealers - all that when I specifically entered the car information we were looking for! I feel compelled to tell everyone about my experience with Lending Tree. It's rather bizarre but I feel It could be mostly in my mind. After a conversation with a very nice lady from this establishment about five months ago, I didn't think I would hear from them again. I was not prepared for her intel. She asked me what I wanted to do and I found myself at a loss for words. My roof had been leaking for a year I know and I was at a loss for words. The lady was offering to help me to be able to get my roof done and I was too stupid to realize it. I finally had what I had been wanting all along and that was someone to talk to me. Then I guess I got scared and I let my one shot at some help slip right thru my telephone. I felt like an idiot I got a second chance though and just talked to another lady from LT. The creditors that I listed to be paid off have not received payment yet, but it has only been two days. The loan origination fee was a little tough to take, but I knew that going in. I really hate giving bad reviews to companies. But when an online company promises one thing and then delivers something entirely different then I have a real problem. The mortgage "bankers" that called me were little more than high pressure sales people. Not one company took the information that I provided Lending Tree and used it when calling me -- they ALL insisted on asking me the exact questions I - and Lending Tree provided them. So my problem is that Lending Tree evidently makes their money by selling the information customers provide, but the buyers of said information don't use the information as anything more than a lead generator. If I had any interest in being bombarded with a bunch of loan agents all asking for the exact same information I would have given Lending Tree more stars, cuz that's all they will do for you. I filled out the application and found out they sent my "personal" information out to every mortgage company legal and ethical or NOT. So my information is spread around like rain. My five referrals went to 20 and I received over 50 robo calls the first three days. It took a month to get rid of them. I got almost 250 calls.
