I had looked at several bikes at Bob's BMW in Jessup MD, but also wanted to look at a R1200RS, which Bob's did not have in their inventory. I had originally purchase the F800R from Bob's and really like their dealership, and felt that going to Kissel, another BMW dealership would probably be a similar experience. I had been corresponding with Haley about the bike, and determined a date to go visit for a test ride. Unfortunately, Haley wasn't there that day as she was getting married, but as i walked in and greeted Evan and explained who i was and why i was there, it was apparent that they were expecting me. Evan took me to the bike, which was in the service area of the building, getting a look over preparing the bike for the test ride. They let me swing a leg over and allowed me to look over the bike as they were preparing it. i noticed some very minor things, (clutch lever needed to be rotated up a little bit, clamp was a little loose) but overall the bike appeared clean, and in good condition for a 10 year old bike. The bike did have over 50k on the odometer, which was not an overall concern as i've heard very good things about the longevity of the 1200 boxer motor, and the tech also commented, "Mine has over 70K". I went and sat with Evan for a short period of time while they finished preparing the bike. He explained the test ride route, which was a short out and back on the main road, and i put on my gear and went for a ride. The bike in general seemed flawless, and i was very happy with the ride. When i got back, Evan said "so are you ready to buy it"? I said i think so, but had some other questions, most of which were prepared for me by the salesperson at Bob's. Evan answered what he could and also took me to the service area where i spoke with the service manager about what they did and didn't know about the bike's history, their inspection of the bike once they received it as a trade in, and what was done to it to prepare it for sale. It was a good conversation, however, i felt that the responses to some of hte questions were a little bit "guarded", perhaps because they didn't know, or maybe there was information they didn't want to provide. None the less, i purchased the bike and rode it home 150 miles, smile on my face the whole way. The primary reason i didn't give a higher number of stars, is i just felt like they just wanted to get me out of there. All of the processes went smoothly. Raelynn in the finance office was fantastic (i paid cash) so the paperwork was minimal. When i finally did get on the bike to leave, there was no fan fare for their new customer that just purchased a bike. No one saw me off and said "congratulations", took my picture for their web site or anything. I actually had to ask, "OK, am i good to go now"? Since then, i have learned that some of the maintenance questions i had been asking were related to a BMW issue with the driveshaft on the bike. They were answering my questions and telling me that the driveshaft would be replaced by BMW at 60k miles, but didn't let on to the reason why. I feel that this was kept from me in pursuit of the sale, rather than being transparent with the customer. I have no concerns about the bike or the drive shaft, however, i do feel that the way it was handled shed some light on the manner in which Kissel deals with their customers. I love the bike and am very happy with it.

We worked with both Jim Sr. and Jim Jr. on a title transfer for a vehicle that was purchased out of…read morestate. That transaction turned out to be much more complicated than expected because the seller provided inaccurate and incomplete paperwork. Both Sr. and Jr. were patient and professional. Because of their experience, they were able to unravel the issue and resolve it. Lohr's probably invested 3-4 hours on our title transaction and charged us a very fair and honest price for all their work and their expertise. More recently, we were closing on a property sale and needed to have some documents notarized. We actually took the documents to another Notary first. After watching my wife and I spend about an hour reviewing 240 pages of documents to make sure everything was in order, the Notary finally mentioned their price, which was $15 per notarization. In the end, this transaction would have cost us almost $200 for their services. I remembered Lohr's and called them on my cell phone. Jim Jr. picked up. He let me know they had closed for the day, but even so, he asked about our situation. I explained we had a very short window to have the documents notarized and then delivered overnight. He probably recognized the stress in my voice. Without hesitation, he offered to drive back to their office and open just for my wife and I to get our documents notarized. When we walked in, I noticed the engraved sign on the counter, detailing all their fees for various services. As Jim Jr. worked through the documents carefully, he pointed out several missing initials, which we then corrected. He explained the entire process and his fees, even though they were clearly posted. He was thorough, courteous and respectful of our time constraints. When it came time to figure the bill, Jim Jr. charged us a flat fee for all of the work, rather than a per document fee. He explained that the 'per document' fee makes sense when a customer has only a few documents to be notarized. However, he recognized that because our two documents included 6 notarizations each, that it would be fairer to charge a flat fee rather than per document. He wouldn't have had to do that. Honestly, at that point my wife and I were so grateful that he was willing notarize the documents on our very tight timetable, that we would have gladly paid the higher fee. In the end, we paid less than half of what we would have been charged at the other place, even though the personal service we received was 10x greater. In this day and age, customer service is almost non-existent. It is rare to find a business of any size that is truly willing to put the customer experience ahead of everything else. Lohr's certainly did that and more. They take a personal interest in their customers and that made all the difference to us. We are customers for life and greatly appreciate the honesty and integrity of both Jim Sr. and Jim Jr.

I was in the beginning stretch of a cross country rode trip when my car started acting funny and the check engine light had turned on. I pulled off the highway and stopped immediately at the first mechanic I could find. They ran the computer to find out that it was the catalytic converter BUT I knew enough to know that just the computer test is not a definite. They guy at the first place I stopped was super pushy (told me I had to make the decision now or they wouldn't get the part), quoted me at over 800 dollars and the other mechanics there were all talking rudely to each other and didn't seem to care about each other or their customers. I got an extremely bad vibe so I looked up a couple places and found Hillside Service center. I called them up and he eased my mind immediately! He asked if they had done a smoke test or a pressure test to make sure it was the catalytic converter and they had not. He asked me if I could make it to him and he would check all of that for me. I am so happy I trusted my gut and found Hillside Service center! It did turn out to be the catalytic converter, unfortunately, but he quoted me at a much more reasonable price and he replaced my spark plugs for free. The whole process + labor time took less than a couple hours and I was back on the road heading to California. At the time, I was scared being alone on a road trip and upset about how much this all was costing. With my nerves all over the place, I found myself crying in the parking lot while trying to figure out funds to afford the work. And I cannot express how grateful I was for the father and son at hillside service center. They made me feel as much at ease as was possible in that moment. He could probably tell I was flustered so while his son worked on the car he made an effort to to have a nice conversation with me. His overt friendliness did not go unnoticed! These two men are extremely honest, hardworking mechanics and I could tell the second he picked up the phone for me. The waiting room was clean and accommodating. The way they interact with each other and their customers shows that they put love and respect into their work and their business. There was only one time of oil change, that a small mistake was made and they fixed it right away. I always feel so confident about their work, and usually it is done very fast. The gentlemen at the front desk are also very car savvy and provide useful suggestions on driving and maintenance. It feels like a family, and this place is owned by Confer's family for generations. The waiting area and restrooms are all pretty nice even though not too fancy. While waiting you can also go to check out the BMW section in addition to their Toyota car models. Really appreciate it! I miss the service there since I have left the area for four years .
