I deeply regret trying to get glasses here, it was a huge waste of time. I was given 3 pairs of glasses in a row that gave me dizzying double vision, yet the doctors' only explanation there was "it's been too long since your last pair". They also tried to put Prism on my glasses when I have never needed that before. Meanwhile Big City Optical down the street figured out that my pupil distance had been measured wrong and fixed it right away for a comparable price. Just booked a 2pm appointment online. When I arrived, the person to check my eyes was at lunch. The person checking me in was distracted. Didn't quite listen to me a couple of times and then asked questions that clearly showed he hadn't listened. He confided that they're short staffed by 5 employees. So I guess they can't find anyone? Low pay? Not a great vibe in the store? Is his distraction because he's overworked and would otherwise not be so off? I usually go to Big City Optical on Clark St in Andersonville, but thought I'd try Lens Crafters because this store is closer to my flat. The person checking me in then did some initial testing in their testing room. Huh? Is this person a doctor, a worker? Very odd. So my instinct said leave. So I did. Now you know. Horrendous customer service. Their rep was so rude today that I was compelled to leave. Last time I was there for annual checkup the staff was rude too, except for one sales rep who appeared to be new. I figured it was just bad timing, but I can tell now that it's a consistent problem. Meant to update this a long time ago. Have had my glasses for two years now - they've been working well, and went back last night to replace my dog-chewed sunglasses. 40% off sale? Hell, yes - it makes them actually somewhat affordable. Unfailingly pleasant, friendly and adorable staff. As I said before, they have a small selection of frames here, but they are INCREDIBLY well curated. Many cool frames, but I went with the classic Wayfarers to replace what I had and liked. I have never been to a more snobbish LensCrafters then this one and I have been to a Miami, FL store. The customer service people are simply much better then the rest of us. And unless you buy a product there, they won't even be pleasant. This location is near where I reside and I have been happy with LensCrafters stores in the past. In the past I had insurance that had them in-network, so I bought frames and prescription lenses from them and they were happy to be of service to me. Now only the Optometrist was in-network, but the frames and prescription lenses were not, so I bought my frames & lenses online with my vision insurance shop. Since they are an not a physical store and no person comes to do adjustments, my vision insurance online store mentions to go where my in my-network doctor is for adjustments. So I did take them to the LensCrafters and they took a lens off to adjust and then told me they didn't have the proper thread. I asked them to just put the lens back on and I will go elsewhere. After 10 minutes I was told they couldn't get the lens back on and I was handed the one lens still in frame and a lens in a small envelope. What morons. They were rude since I entered. (Once I got home I put the lens back on the frame) The store also suffers from a revolving door of Optometrists. Been there 3 years in a row for my exams and 3 different Optometrists. Only one choice here. Been to my dentist and have had the same one for over 5 years. Same with my doctor. I use to like LensCrafters for the convenience when I traveled, but now not so much. After going to more local shops for several years, I was skeptical about going back to LensCrafters. I don't know why, maybe because the lure of designer frames and the responsibility to support local businesses drew me towards more boutiqu-ey shops while other corporate-run optical places were bad experiences in the past. Nonetheless, I had a great experience at this location. It was super easy to get an appointment, and the staff was super friendly. The guy assisting me walked me through to help pick out a pair of glasses, and several of the girls working there took the time to weigh in on my choices to help me find the right pair. I rarely feel like I encounter great customer service these days, and I was pleasantly surprised with the level of service I received today. Thanks! read more

Nice optometrist, horrid service. I went for an examination to get new contacts and was given a trial pair that was exceptionally uncomfortable. I went back to consult with the doctor to switch to a different brand. At that time I told him instead of a year's supply that I only wanted six months, as I wanted to make sure I liked them. The doctor said that was fine, he would make the adjustment and that I would have a different Rx for each eye. Fast forward two weeks later -- still no contact lenses nor a phone call from the store, explaining why it was taking so long. I called them and they told me they would be coming in, "any day". I said that was not going to work for me and that I wanted a refund for the lenses and a copy of my Rx, which I would get filled with someone else. They informed me I had to come to the store in person so that they could see the credit card I used for the purchase. When I got there, they gave me the bum's rush and said that they had expedited the order and that it would arrive in two days. I asked, if it was already shipped, then why would they have to expedite shipping? It was obvious the new lenses were never ordered. When I FINALLY got the lenses, I asked which box was for which eye. The associate circled the lens box for my right eye and sent me on my way. It was only when I got home, did I notice that both boxes were identical and a year's supply. So much for different Rx for each eye and changing the order from a year's supply to six months. I contacted their online customer support where I have been talking with LensCrafters rep Dawn. She acted "concerned" about my experience and told me she would "reach out" to the store and have them contact me to resolve the matter. That was two and a half days ago. I cannot stress strongly enough: AVOID this location at all costs. They will enthusiastically take your money, but that's about it. read more

I've always used LensCrafters. In fact, I used their shop on Clark Street outside of Lakeview in the past. For convenience I opted to use this location as it was close to home. Mistake. We went off the tracks the moment I walked in. The woman behind the counter asked for my insurance card. I told her I had one, but normally I give my SS# for VSP coverage. She indicated that she needed an insurance card regardless. Fast forward 20 minutes, she tells me my insurance isn't accepted (even though I had used it at the other location last year and had not changed insurance or providers) and tell me if I wish to see the doctor I'd have to pay. I opt not to do so, so she throws my just-filled out admission forms away for "hipaa reasons." Then the manager wanders out of the backroom, asks about the issue, types in my SS# and what do you know - my insurance is accepted. So I have to fill out all the paperwork. Again. By this time, I've wasted 30 minutes. The next steps is the pre-appointment check-up where they take you and make you read the charts, do the air-puff thing, etc. I was offered at least 3 additional test upgrades with a fee of $20-$30. Each. When did LensCrafters model themselves after airlines and start with the nickel and dime mentality. I'm used to the extra fees being asked for once you pick out your frames - not before you're even examined. My appointment with Dr. Bolyard was fine but man she seemed bored with her job. No small talk, no smile, no interaction. Just "read this/read that," and yet another optional test for an additional fee of $20 that "I really should have." If this had been my first experience with LensCrafters, I'd not have returned. But in this case, next year I'll go back to the shop on Clark street. I'll probably still get peppered with fees, but I'll get better service and competent people. read more

Terrible. This was almost two years ago, and I am just getting around to writing this now because I finally just now got new contacts at a different place. This location gave me the wrong prescription for my contact lenses. I took them home after buying a 6 month supply and the vision in my right eye was blurry. I went back and the doctor looked at my eyes with her fancy machines and said I had a scratch on my eye, and to wait a week and put my contacts in and it'd be fine. I did that, put them in, and still blurry. I waited another two weeks, still blurry. I am not upset with them for making a mistake, because everyone makes a mistake here and then. What was infuriating is they would not admit to any fault and they would not make any attempt to correct the situation. They insisted that I would have to pay for another eye exam and then another supply of contact lenses. After i had already spent a few hundred dollars the first time! Perhaps it's my fault for not being more persistent in my complaints but I work in sales/customer service; when a customer has an issue I don't just shrug it off and say "sorry", I do what I can to make it right by them. Pros: -Accepted my EyeMed insurance plan -Super-easy online appointment scheduling -Clean and modern facility with technology such as retinal scanner -Dr Bolyard conducted a through exam and produced an accurate prescription Cons: -Limited selection of men's frames -Massively overpriced (before insurance) glasses compared to online providers such as http://www.warbyparker.com -Over-promised and under-delivered on order fulfillment timeline (2 days promise delayed to 7 days which further delayed to 13 days) for a basic single vision prescription -Never called with status of my order; had to follow up with them to find out about multiple delays The bottom line is I would use them for an optical exam and prescription, but would buy future pairs from WarbyParker.com or ClassicSpecs.com for a fraction of the cost (stylish frames, prescription lenses, and premium coatings for $95 total cost including shipping). The only reason to pay the Lenscrafter prices are convenience and quick order fulfillment. Since they do not deliver that, I am not sure why anyone would pay the huge price premium to shop there unless you have specialty lense requirements that could not be found online? read more

After less-than-stellar experiences at the store in Lincoln Park, I decided to give this location a try. Not only were they able to schedule appointments at times convenient for *me*, they also have free parking in the lot behind the store. All staff were friendly and patient with me (while taking 45 minutes to pick out a pair of frames), and I felt like they were giving me honest opinions rather than trying to up the price or get to me hurry up and choose something already. They have a good selection of frames (but no Chanel.. but I'll give that up to avoid the folks in Lincoln Park), and turnaround time for my new glasses was less than what I was originally quoted. Terrible customer service. When I called to make the appointment I asked how much it would be for an exam that covers eyeglass and contact prescriptions and was told $59. I explicitly asked "this will get me my contact prescription so I can fill it online" and was told yes. Then I get here and no, that's not true. I explained the phone conversation I had had to both the doctor and the person checking me out and was told it was a miscommunication, despite the explicit questions I asked. I asked for a discount as I was expecting to pay $59, not $109 and was told no. I'm self employed. My income is varied because of this and it was important to me to find a place that was affordable for me. I definitely spent money I didn't have because I was promised a different rate and blindsided upon arrival. Also, the yelp $10 off deal is expired. They gave it to me because I was cranky. But I don't think they will give it to someone else. The doctor was good. But lack of accountability and willingness to make good on promised rates ruined my experience. Update: My 5-star review remains for Dr. Pak - he's awesome. However, I have learned the staff could use a little work. I had ordered contacts - after a few weeks I still hadn't heard anything so I called, and learned they never ordered them. Walked in a few months later with a question on the contacts, they said they'd need to check with the Doctor and call me back - fine - except I never received a call back. So, I've been a little frustrated - have great doctors which will keep me coming back, but I feel they need to improve the staff. I am always nervous trying out a new eye/dental/health place because you never know the type of service and doctor you are going to get. I feel like I really hit the jackpot with this place. The staff was all very friendly, super attentive, and not pushy to buy new frames. The biggest part of my jackpot was finding Dr. Pak. BEST eye doctor I have ever seen. I just moved to this area and I am so happy that I happened to get lucky to get an appointment with him. He's thorough, and EXPLAINS things - you wouldn't think that to be rocket science, but so many doctors just tell you that you need something but don't tell you why. I left my appointment knowing more about my vision than I ever have in the 13 years that I've been wearing glasses. My full appointment took a little longer than I anticipated, but it was no problem for me, and definitely worth the time. read more

Dr. Said was patient and compassionate, especially given that this is my first foray into eyewear. Having had shingles in my optic nerve, she was incredibly understanding and worked with me to not be afraid of the tests. Generally, I get nervous around machines! I totally missed the boat on the free parking ... should have read up on things here first! However -- I paid my meter out front for one hour and was able to get in and out before it expired, which is a major feat (especially after a bad 3-hour experience at the Lincoln Park location). Another plus - easy to get an appointment, and I was the only customer there and didn't have to wait. The doctor was thorough and friendly. That said, I'm not a fan of LensCrafters' practice of having someone other than the doctor-doctor do some of the preliminary tests. I'm sure it's fine, but it just makes me a bit nervous. Also, the person who did this exam didn't inspire a whole lot of confidence. I dealt with this fellow several times while there - to check in, to complete my paperwork, to do the start of the exam, and to pay and check out -- and none of those interactions were good. It was a young man -- early 20s -- and while he wasn't unfriendly, he never made eye contact, mumbled when he spoke (I had to ask him to repeat nearly everything he said), and chewed gum the entire time. It took him ages to run my insurance and check me out at the end, and he didn't know the answers to my questions about insurance coverage. The other assistant-type woman working with him seemed very friendly and knowledgeable - and, like I said, I found the actual optometrist very appealing - but this fellow almost made me wish I'd gone elsewhere. read more

This was my first time at a LensCrafters and I was only going in to get new contacts as I was on my last pair. Scheduling the appointment was a breeze, the staff was super friendly and quick, the optometrist was friendly and knowledgeable, and I just got my contacts in the mail today. Overall I had a great experience. I've never been able to have contacts mailed to me (usually I have to pick them up) so that was nice! They helped me to understand how much my insurance could do for me too which was nice. I've never gone to LensCrafters for glasses and I don't plan to. The negative reviews on here are mostly about glasses and I'd have to agree their prices are super high and selection is super low. But if you just need contacts like I did and want a pleasant, smart, and helpful staff I would recommend LensCrafters in Edge Water! :D read more

However, the prices for glasses are high enough to induce sticker shock. I have a particularly strong prescription, and I was quoted 600 dollars for one pair. Absolutely terrible service from an employee named "Sikora". Let me give context by saying I have purchased two pairs of glasses averaging about $200 each from this Lenscrafters location. I came in today at 4:35 and was asked how I could be helped. The string holding my right lens to my frame snapped this morning and I needed them to be repaired. This is a procedure I have had done twice before, with an average time of 3 minutes. Sikora very rudely told me there was nothing she could do as they were closing in fifteen minutes. Keep in mind, this was 25 minutes before closing time. I am someone that does not like confrontations and I prefer to be polite, as I have worked in retail and customer service for over 10 years. Not only did Sikora have a terrible attitude and demeanor in which it was obvious that she was waiting for closing time so she could get out of there. I get that. What really really irritates me is that she took out that frustration on me, a paying and repeat customer to that location, and not only did that but LIED TO ME in telling me the "procedure" would take hours to fix and to come back tomorrow. I walked 2 miles to get to this store, wearing glasses is a NEED for me. For Sikora to be completely unaware and uncaring of my situation, when THAT IS HER JOB: to take care of the paying customers (really all customers) that walk through that door, regardless of if it is 25 or 15 minutes before closing time. I am extremely disappointed in Lenscrafters for allowing this type of behavior to exist in their stores. read more
