    Wine flight - 3 for $6
    Kinnie I.

Despite COVID we safely managed an enjoyable wine tasting outing at LynOaken. Lovely sunny weather this past Saturday 3/20/21. Nice drive to Medina along the Niagara Wine Trail. Server was sweet and gave us tips on choosing wines we would prefer. Ordered a flight of 3 for $6 each plus some tasty snacks for $10 plate. Always enjoyed this winery. Still the tops!!

Lake Plains Players performance at Leonard Oakes Estate Winery

Full Disclosure: I was here for a performance by Lake Plains Players (a local acting group) which my wife was part of. The main room of the winery was warm, inviting, and well lit. The employees were incredibly pleasant and knowledgeable about the products they produced. When I visit a place like this, I like to try something I normally would not have. I tried their wine called Fuji Apple, and it was delicious. I'm not particularly fond of most sweet wines but this really hit the spot. It was clean, sweet, and true to its name, tasted like a fuji apple. I would definitely consider heading back out here to check out the winery during normal business hours.

Wine tasting list 4 for $4

Nice variety at this winery - Ciders, Ice Wines and Beer are available. The service was fantastic and the prices were reasonable for the tastings. The highlight was the Ice Wine flights that came with chocolate truffles. For $10 this was more than worth it as all three wines were high quality and the chocolate was delicious.

Disclaimer: I visited Leonard Oakes Estate Winery while 6.5 months pregnant, so I didn't actually taste any of the wine...this review is about the experience, not necessarily the product. We stopped by the winery after visiting LynOaken Farms, which is owned by the same family. Since the farm wasn't technically open, they weren't selling the fresh-pressed cider that we'd heard so much about. But there we were informed that they sell it and all their produce also at the winery and store on the Ridge Road. There's a farm store with local produce, knickknacks, local cheeses, fresh-baked cookies, and of course, their cider. Down a little hallway from the farm store is the tasting room of the winery. Jessica, who works the tasting room, is charming. She's very knowledgeable without pretense and talked the 4 of us through the long tasting list, of which you can pick 6 for $2. As I said, I didn't taste, just smelled. After smelling and conferring with Jimmy and his parents, we agreed that, as you'd expect of NY wineries, the whites are the best. We particularly liked the unoaked Chardonnay, enough that we got a bottle to take with us. (I did sneak a sip once we were at home, and it was quite acidic, similar to a crisp Sauvignon Blanc from Malborough, NZ.) I highly recommend this pleasant stop if you're in the area!

A combo of all the noshes offered. The olives, cheese, and meat plates all in one.

We grabbed it, to bring to a big dinner gathering. We knew it was serious when we picked it up - it was a hefty pie! When we cut into it, it was juicy & there was minimal crust - in a really good way. Like a cobbler. So much sweet strawberry filling! The streusel topping was perfectly slightly salty, to balance out the sweet strawberries. And cinnamony. DELICIOUS!! Everyone loved it. I would bet that any pie they bring to the farmers market is fantastic. GET IT.

I looked up some reviews and LynOaken was highly recommended and offered a lot of varieties. A huge bonus was that there was a winery next door! I called in advance to see what the U-pick varieties were for the date I was looking to go because all the varieties are not ready to be picked at once. This year they had an online reservation system set up due to the pandemic. $7 included parking and a small bag of non specialty apples. You could buy more u-pick or prepicked apples on site. When you arrive there is a super cute country store set up with pre picked apples, cider, baked goods, vegetables and other treats. Once you check in there are wagons you can use to lug apples or transport kids which was a nice bonus. The area is large but not too spread out so it's nice to take a family and kids can't go too far. The staff is helpful and knows a lot about their products. Delicious and fresh apples and very clean and well run place. The winery, Leonard Oakes Estates, next door also had outdoor seating. I think there was indoor as well if you wanted. $10 got you 3 generous tastings and an ample choice of charcuterie, nuts, etc. There were a lot of tasty wine and ciders to choose from. Overall a fun day with tons of yummy options to choose from.
