The wrong prescription was written as I found out after two weeks when my glasses came in. Never wore them. Got a second opinion. Prescription was totally wrong. Needed new glasses made a purchase elsewhere 2019. Was told once I have cataract surgery to go ahead and bring glasses back for the lenses exchange. Today, after two cataract surgeries, and a laser correction I'm ready to get new lenses. I called spoke to Donna, Dr. Ma retired there is nothing they can do. I'm out $471.00 for lenses. I started "seeing" Dr. Ma about 1994; I had an office almost next door to his, so I gave him a try as it made for a great commute to an eye appointment. Over the years he has provided consistent quality eye care. I have routinely ordered contacts through him and sometimes glasses as well, without any issues and always with clear vision. Our family lives in the east bay, so after I closed my office, we tried a few eye doctors close to home in the tri-city area, but none have come close to the care and integrity Dr. Ma has consistently provided. Now we have a long commute for our appointments, but some things like healthy eyes are worth the effort. It was also affirming to learn from my primary care physician that he also sees Dr. Ma. Need to note, his assistant Donnelle has always been a great communicator and has provided great service over the years to our family as well. I have to say that Dr. Ma is the first ever to get my prescription right in over 60 years! I always had to "adjust" to my new prescription and sometimes, I never did. My new glasses were comfortable from the get go and everything was clear far and close. He really spends time to get the right Rx for you and I was impressed with that. My wife will be visiting him soon and he will be my preferred OD from now on. read more

Dr Ma is one of those guys that absolutely loves what he does. He is methodical, precise, well-informed and current. The office is in a cute home and has tons of great equipment and the staff is thorough and friendly. After my experience there, I would drive from the city to come here - that's how good Dr. Ma is! I went to Dr Ma's office for a routine eye exam as I had been suffering from blurry vision. After much thorough and somewhat tedious symptom & eye checking he said I could probably avoid glasses if I did eye exercises every day for a period of time. Eye exercises!! Who ever heard of such a thing!? But he told me I could go to clinics that have machines (like an eye gym?) OR I could do the exercises on my own and he showed me how. After 2 weeks of exercises my blurry vision stopped. I kept up the exercises for two months and my eyes have never been better and NO GLASSES OR CONTACTS! I know other doctors that would have wanted to make money by giving me glasses and my eyes would have only progressed to worse so THANKS Dr MA! When Dr Ma is finished with the exam you get to go into the next room and have a cool 3-d scan done of your retina/eyeball. The woman that does it is also totally into eyes and eyeballs and explains it all to you. It truly was one of the most knowledgeable doctor visits not to mention the most affordable symptom-relief visits I have ever had. This one star is for one staff on the email chain and Dr. Ma was great. The office visit was pleasant and I ordered some contact lenses. One month later I found a rebate flyer in the contact lenses box and asked them if I can apply it. One staff responded back saying I can't since my cost was covered by insurance. I followed up on the insurance section mentioned on the flyer and here's the response I received, in original words: "So once again, you paid nothing for your contacts, so I have no receipt for you to get a rebate. You can always call them and ask how to get a rebate if you paid nothing." Oh and not to mention that staff spelled my name wrong. I don't understand where does this attitude come from but I don't deserve this. Too bad I was really happy to find Dr. Ma so close to my place. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Ma's for 2 years and they have been nothing short of fantastic! I have had some interesting insurance issues in the past 2 years with my company always messing up my enrollment and they have been far more than accommodating to me! As a patient I have a super tricky prescription with my astigmatism in one eye and Dr. Ma has been able to get me as close to 20/20 as possible! I've been seeing Dr Ma for 3 years now and he is very good. He is very friendly and always explains things to you. His staff are always polite and helpful and I'm always seen on time. There is no hard sell to buy glasses as I have experienced with other opticians in the past. Great location too, it's in a small house/office. We couldn't even get an appointment because the receptionist said they took our insurance but she was not going to call them to see what was covered. I told her we would pay out of pocket at the time of service if it was not covered by our PPO. She then told me again she was not going to call the insurance company to find out what was covered. I've never had that happen before. I told the receptionist in that case I would call Dr. Koo or Dr. Cooper, and she said that was fine. Dr. Cooper's receptionist knew what our particular PPO covered and she booked our appointment. Dr. Ma may want to check on his office staff. We saw Dr. Ma in 2009 and like him, but not enough to deal with lazy office staff. read more

A friend of mine been patient here for years and he has a very special issue with his one eye that the shape of his eye ball will change each year, it was such a challenge to find a doctor who cares and willing to take the time to do measurements and also taking multiple visits to just to make sure the contact lens match perfectly. I myself witness this process once and know for sure not many of the doctors out there would take the time for it. Patient usually doesn't have much if idea what a doctor can or can't do for them, so it is an easy way to fool your patients by not going the extra steps. My friend has no insurance coverage at all and I believe doctor ma pricing is fair. read more

Dr. Ma really knows his profession. He carefully makes sure that you get the best glasses for your exact vision issues. He takes a lot time to make sure he has selected the best lens. I've been going to Dr. Ma for almost 7 years now and he is wonderful. He is very thorough and patient during eye exams and really knows what he is doing. He also takes the time to answer whatever questions you may have and listen to you concerns about your vision. I have never had a problem with my prescriptions and have had great vision ever since. Not only that, his office staff are so friendly, accomidating, knowledgeable and helpful. Veronica is great with scheduling, ordering and billing. She always tries to help me find the best price options for my lenses/contacts. Donette has helped me many times with various things such as teaching me how to put on my contacts and how to care for them, explaining my VSP, helping me adjust my frames, etc. She is the best! read more

The girls in the front office are very helpful in assisting you in choosing the best eye glass frame for your face. This is the most backwards medical office I have ever been in.It looks like an old beat up house turned into a medical office, but whoever designed it was blind. The waiting area is so narrow and has some miss matched chairs with an old dirty rug and then you walk into what is supposed to be the reception area but its lay out again is really strange. The staff is also backwards as they don't really make eye contact and don't appear interested in you as a patient. Then the best part is when you meet the doctor who is incredibly unfriendly. My 20 month old daughter got spooked by his stern demeanor and when she started crying he rudely suggested having his staff look after her. (?!!!!?) I said NO. I am not going to have a complete stranger look at my daughter!!. Are you crazy??? I wanted to run out the door as quickly as possible. By the time the useless examination was over my daughter was in tears. He never gave me a reasonable explanation for my problem. Instead, he gave me list of possible scenarios which none made sense based on my particular situation. Note to Dr. Ma: Thanks for the complete waste of my time doctor and thanks for scaring my daughter.AND NO I would NEVER come back again and NEVER would recommend anyone to this place. read more
