It takes a lot for me to write a 1-star review. We were charged $111.62 for a 6-piece box of malasadas which were supposed to be $11.62. The cashier entered the amount incorrectly into the point-of-sale system. When we returned to this truck location to get the amount corrected, we were told we had to drive 20 minutes to the main location for a refund. He really gave zero f*ucks and couldn't be bothered to apologize -- let alone acknowledge his mistake. Driving 20 minutes out of our way (after already waiting 30 minutes in line for a resolution) ISN'T a reasonable option. Since our plans were derailed by this and the overcharge was significant, we drove to the main location. Again, the staff there said nothing could be done because the manager wasn't present. In total, we spent 50+ minutes trying to resolve a mistake their employee made and got absolutely nowhere. The malasadas were delicious, but unfortunately, the cashier's negligence and the overall lack of empathy were disappointing. I'm sure that losing one customer to poor service is negligible for this highly popular business, but that's where my heart is on this issue. read more

A huge donut type pastry for less than $2 each. How can you not love it? This truck is in a parking lot down the street from the trailhead for Kokohead Crater. Treat yourself after your hike, or get some before for energy AND after for a reward! I won't judge! Depending on the day the flavor offerings will vary. I feel like since Covid there are usually only three available any given day. Also depending on who's working, the line can go quick or slow, and service to be friendly or curt. When we went we ordered 9, which fit in one box. When we asked for an extra bag, the worker said "No more bags" when clearly he had tons. I had to explain the order was going to two different families in two different cars, then he hesitantly gave me a small plastic bag. It's not a big deal, but thought it was a little weird. If I ordered in two separate orders the bag issue would not have even been an issue. Well, it just adds to the charm I guess. The man is busy I get it. Still 5 star product though. Leonard's bakery is definitely a must stop for tourist. Not too sure if locals feel the same way but for someone who hasn't tried their masaladas it's a great place. There's a few Leonard's but I strongly feel that this location is the best because it's not too busy. If you go to their brick and mortar prepare for a long, long line. This location; however, was right before our trip to the east side of island. We stopped here before we went to Hanauma Bay to snorkel. We chose the variety pack to get a sample of everything and it was the best. What's not better than sugary dough filled w chocolate, custard or berry? Overall, I recommend highly. We were doing our Waikiki trolley ride when we spotted this food truck/bakery truck in one of our trolley stops. Me and hubby looked at each other and asked the driver if we can hop off that stop. He gave us instructions of hopping in the next bus in 40 minutes and so we did! We got our first Leonard's doughnuts and they don't disappoint! Good quick spot if you want some Malasadas on the fly. After a quick (ha!) run up KoKo head we were ready to carb up. A quick drive over here and our tastebuds were satisfied. This truck does not have all the options that Lenoards bakery has. For fillings they have Custard, Coconut and chocolate. And they have Original, Cinnamon and Li Hing. Every time we drove by Leonard's, there was a long line. So decided to pass. How good could a "donut" be? Thankfully we found the food truck. Line was much shorter. I was torn between giving this Malasadamobile a 3-star review or a 4-star review. When I went with a friend, there was barely a line-- we were third in line, to be exact. The malasadas were hot, just slightly crisp on the outside, and SO delicious for a reasonable price. This was a 5-star experience. However, when I went back on my own, though there was no line, the malasadas I ordered were cold. There was no crisp on the outside, and the fillings were a bit gelatinous (because the malasadas were cold). The experience was SUCH a let-down that I wanted to give this place a 3-star review. I think if you're willing to try your luck, go to this location when you're on a time crunch. This truck is located in koko marina next to Petco and Walgreens, the line can be reminiscent of the flagship store but that's to be expected of Leonards. You can't go wrong with the filled malasadas all are pretty delicious but my personal favorite is the Li Hing Malasadas if you aren't really a sweets person then you need to try these. Perfect combination of Sweet and Salty with the Li Hing Powder (Salty Plum). They also open super early at 7:30am for those who are looking for a sweet morning breakfast before those strenous hikes! We got their filled malasadas - chocolate, custard, and Haupia. We had to get all 3 to try them all! Mine and my husband's favorite was obviously the chocolate one (not too overwhelmingly sweet), custard was good too. Least favorite was unfortunately the haupia, as the filling was a bit too artificial. Best place to get a malasada going to/from the east side! Malasadas are always fresh and delicious and you don't have to wait in the Kapahulu line. I usually get 3 malasadas: 1 to eat right away, 1 for later that day, and 1 for breakfast the next morning. I like the cinnamon sugar and original flavors. $5 minimum for credit card purchases (ie 4 regular malasadas) so I usually pay cash. Lots of atms nearby and easy parking in the lot. read more
