Taken from entrance: the shop. The white area in the back is where the roaster is. Beans roasted on site (I believe.)

Zach Leonard started roasting coffee beans in his garage (I believe) and soon word got out that his beans were so good --demand helped him open up this shop in Johnstown. Its easy to find, lots of street/public parking near by. A black awning that hangs outside his shop has LCRC on one corner and "coffee and roastery" on the other... but oh, so much more is inside... Once you push through the door you are welcomed with the smell of fresh coffee, a sincere smile and a friendly hello from this roaster. The inside has the buildings original planked floors. There is a vast amount of seating from the front to the back. Along the walls he features painting by local artists which also can be purchased at his shop. There is a swag station where you can buy his beans and also purchase locally made products like candles, etc. The coffee... one of my favorites. It just so well balanced and not bitter. His prices! Omg, probably the best of all the coffee shops Ive been too. He has plenty of baked goods that pair wonderfully with his coffees. The only thing I could wish for there is... scones. Lots of muffins, cookies, pastries, but no scones. Oh well... its hard to be perfect... and even without the scones, he pretty much is nailing the coffee roasting experience, imo. And thankfully he is sharing it with all of us. This coffee is worth driving to and trying.

I stopped in today on a road trip and tried a hot mocha. It was delicious- not too sweet and the coffee beans are freshly roasted on site. The owner was very outgoing, welcoming, and polite. This coffee shop has a laid-back friendly vibe with plenty of open seating, tasteful art on the walls, fresh flowers at the register, locally made candles and other gift items are also available. I loved the hardwood floors and the overall ambience of the shop. I'll definitely stop again on my way through town.

The best little coffee spot! The customer service is unbeatable; you're always greeted with a hello and a smile & dismissed with a sincere thank you. There are so many delicious home baked goodies, great bagels and breakfast sandwiches available! For the most important part- the coffee is hands down one of the best coffee bean flavors I've ever had. Every drink is so well balanced- flavors of sweetness, bitterness, and acidity work together harmoniously and you're always left with the BEST nutty aftertaste. It's truly a top notch coffee shop

This is what they mean when they say "hidden gem"! We make it a habit to try local coffee shops when we are traveling, and this exceeded all expectations. The decor may be simplistic, but the drinks and breakfast sandwiches most certainly are not! We had a delicious iced latte with the perfect ratio of coffee to flavor to milk, and a hot americano that was also expertly prepared. There is nothing worse than a coffee with zero sweetness, except in fact for a coffee that tastes like they forgot the espresso! This place nailed the flavor profile expertly. The breakfast sandwiches to go also were far better than anticipated. While the egg is likely pre-cooked, the (homemade?) sourdough bread and panini press more than made up for it. We wanted to try a new spot for our second morning in town, but this one will be hard to beat! Not to mention that the staff were extremely polite and friendly, and the prices were fair. Couldn't ask for more!

This…read moreold-home vibe comes with small rooms, small doorways, and lots of little nooks and crannies that would be perfect for working. Worth noting: this business has religious overtones to it with multiple Christian decor items around it. PROS: -Love the upstairs area. Upstairs, there were two separate rooms with good seating areas. Both offered enough privacy to feel like you were having a "private" conversation at the coffeehouse and you felt far enough away from the people on their laptops to feel like you weren't disturbing them with your conversations. -While some of the furniture "appears" older and classic, they have nice upgrades. A full-wood table, for example, had outlets built into the table for laptops. -Really friendly staff. We didn't know what to get, but they were really patient with us. -Decent parking around. This is in the busier area of Hilliard, but it's off the beaten path enough that there's decent parking within a one block radius. Lots of free parking options if you're willing to walk a couple blocks too. I didn't look for a dedicated parking lot. -Mini sizes of drinks. Coffee Connections seems to sell a "Mini", a "Small", and a "Large". The Mini appears to be about the size of a couple of espressos, and it's adorable. I could see that being a great size for kids who want to "have coffee like my parents" in a matching cup. -Delicious coffee. I know it's a coffeeshop, but sometimes the vibe is almost as important as the actual product. Coffee Connections has a lovely, small-business vibe but they also have the yummy, sippable coffee to match. Latte was served piping hot, and it was a pleasure to sit and chat while waiting for it to cool down to drink. -Cute outdoor area. A door right off the order counter takes you to their outdoor seating area. Coffee shops with outdoor seating are hard to find, and this one even has beautiful lights strung up for you late-night coffee drinkers. It honestly feels like it'd be a super-cute date night spot in the evenings. CONS: -Built into an older home, Coffee Connections has smaller hallways and older flooring. Nothing seemed dangerous uneven, but if you need lots of space and flat flooring to maneuver, this may not be a good fit.

You find so much the same, seemingly caught in time, and other things have greatly changed. Goldberry is one of those "new to me" additions to Ashland, and every time I walk through its doors, I find myself grateful that it is a part of this town's growth and change. Brightly lit, warmly modern, with touches of wood, crisp white, and greenery, the shop holds ample space to gather together with friends or sit comfortably by oneself, sipping an espresso, cortado, or dirty chai with almond milk (my personal choice today) while people-watching or reading a book. Tall windows line the front of the building, looking out upon a bustling parking lot and side-street as multiple baristas efficiently work away behind the bar. Fresh donuts were being sold at a stand as I entered, along with bagged beans and a variety of other bottled/canned beverages. People sat outside, in groups around larger tables, or in more relaxed leather chairs, animatedly caught up in conversation. Goldberry feels like a true 'third place' in Ashland - not your home, not your workplace, but that third place where you go to meet friends, begin your day, or center yourself before stepping out into the world. It's fittingly named in that light, given that Goldberry is the warmly welcoming, hospitable, and wise woman in JRR Tolkien's work who offers comfort and guidance to questing hobbits, the beautiful and mysterious 'river-woman's daughter' who married the enigmatic Tom Bombadil, a man whose magic was older than time. This coffee shop is all of those things: welcoming, warm, bright, and more than a little magical, glowing like a water-washed jewel - or fairly-sourced coffee bean - in the midst of this ever-changing tiny mid-Ohio town. I'll be back.

When choosing I always look for thoughtfully sourced single origins and blends, and Brioso delivered. If you know coffee you can tell what Brioso is doing and appreciate it deep down in your black coffee loving soul, but for anyone newer to coffee, this is an absolutely fantastic place because they present their coffees in a way that is fun, approachable and easily understood! I perused the retail roast selections on my way in and scoped out the pour over choices deciding to try their "curiosities" selection, a black diamond natural process, and the natural Kenyan as well. Both were delicious but I wish I had tried the Kenyan first and then the curiosity because my palate was dominated by the bigger flavors of the first cup. Staff was super friendly, roaster is on full display, and the vibes are communal. Great find and place for anyone who loves coffee.
