After breaking one of my car keys I found this place here on Yelp and figured I'd go here instead of my normal shop because it was closer at the time. The man that helped me, who I presumed was the owner, was super attentive as well as super fast at assessing the situation since the key that I was getting copied was a copy and one of my key slots was giving me trouble. After figuring out what was what he made me two copies just as I asked and sent me on my way just as fast as I could pull my money out to pay him. These guys are the best. Not only are they expert locksmiths, but their customer service is excellent and their prices are reasonable as well. I had been going to Leonards for a while to get keys made but today they made me into a customer for life. I just bought a used car from a private party (a 2006 Chevy HHR) which came with just one ignition key and no remote control transmitters. Whenever I lock the doors, the factory alarm automatically sets. When I unlock the door, with the key the horn starts chirping loudly and I have to quickly put the key in the ignition and start it or else the horn goes from chirping to all out honking. I pulled into the Chevy dealership in Burbank and was told that replacement remotes cost $100.00 to $150.00 each plus $90.00 for programming. I didn't stick around long enough to even ask about a second backup ignition key (these cars have a key with a special chip built in which must be programmed to the vehicle as well as the remotes). I spoke with John down at Leonard's Lock and Key and he was able to hook me up with not just a second key with the special chip, but with 2 new remote control transmitters as well. He walked out to my car with a special tablet computer and plugged into a harness under my dash and programmed them all for me in less than 5 minutes. Best of all, I payed well less than half of what the dealer wanted to charge me. If you are anywhere near Burbank and need keys or locks or as in my case, even a factory remote control for your vehicle, these are the guys you want see. read more

THIS PLACE IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST! I went in to get a lock rekeyed, and the guy told me that I needed to get a specific kind of lock to match my existing keys. I went back in the "recommended" type of lock, and he said that it would not work because the key was too big. I told him I got the one that he recommended and he said, "oh, but you need a different type of that brand". I found another place and they were able to take care of it in 15 minutes. He was efficient but very brisk. I paid no less than $27 to replace the batteries for just two items: my car remote and garage opener. Boy I folk like a dork! He took my garage opener and disappeared to the back of the store before I could ask him how much. Make sure to ask him the price before he disappears to the back of the store. read more

Incredibly helpful people. They helped me rekey my doors by giving me the option to call for a service technician or to pull the locks out myself and bring them into their shop. It was the worst experience ever, and he had a weird attitude. I do not recommend there. I am sure he only thinks about money first. I didn't even ask what I want to do because I wanted to compare the price with other places. I was explaining what the situation was. He just heard that and went into the room with my key fob and brought my key fob back and then asked $25. I asked if he can flush my extra key fob because I can program the fob by myself with my tool. I know it was a simple thing just removing the previous memory, but he totally overcharged. Moreover, I guess he might not be done flushing the fob and maybe he thought I'll come back to pay another process if I were not able to program the fob. He was like a con man. I hope he never does first what the customer needs without telling the price. It truly ruined my day, and at that time, I couldn't complain about his attitude bc I was sick and had a bad condition so I didn't argue that with him. Went in this morning after work to get 2 keys copied. The Asian man at the front desk (Leonard?) was very friendly and efficient. Done in 2 minutes. He noticed I was a nurse and he told me his son was also an ER nurse. He wore a mask and we talked about Covid. Ignore any negative reviews. Came here because I went to three other shops to get my keyless entry remote to my car programmed. For those of you wondering why I didn't go to the dealer; the dealer was charging $95 for the remote and $75 for programming. I got the exact same remote off Amazon for $10 bucks. Got locked out on a Saturday - realized it when I came back with bags of produce from the farmers market - totally panicked - tried to go through windows - remembered made it impossible to go through windows (I fear clever zombies) - panicked some more - ate some fruit - started calling locksmiths... This place has been in Burbank forever so when I bought a shell that was missing the keys to the locks I took it to Leonards. There were two old guys in the store and the one really wanted to help and was trying to look up lock codes while all the time the other old guy was bitching and complaining at him. He kept telling him to send us away that they cant make the key and to come back another day. After a few more minutes of them arguing the old guy gave us a card told us to come back Tuesday and see John. I figured I would give it another chance so I went back Tuesday and the shop was full of guys gossiping. John seemed to be busy or irritated and I apparently was wasting his time. He finally quoted me a ridiculously high price and I left. I ended up buying the whole locking mechanism with keys online for much less than he wanted to charge me. read more

The longtime Locksmith we used to use as work has finally shut his doors and retired. So I gave this place a shot since the reviews were so great. I called Leonard's Lock & Key, they were very informative, and provided all the information I needed. When I arrived at their store, there were 2 other customers ahead of me. The gentleman at the counter was very professional and quick. He duplicated keys for the prior two clients ahead of me. I needed a key duplicated that had "Do Not Duplicate" stamped on it. I provided letter head and authorization to duplicate the key. My prior locksmith, always had us fill out a form and attached the memo to it. This location did not do that, so it makes me wonder. The man at the counter duplicated the keys for me and kept the memo. However, when I asked him to include a stamp on the keys that said "Do Not Duplicate" he stated they do not have such a stamp. This completely disappointed me. How can a locksmith not have such a stamp for keys. Now I have to look for a locksmith that can actually do it. This would have been my go to location if for not for this reason. We duplicate numerous keys at my workplace, and it is imperative that we get those keys stamped, in order to prevent duplication and keep things secure. Oh well...I guess I'll keep looking. read more

I'm surprised at the negative reviews, frankly. I'm a woman, and I used to go there for work almost monthly. They made me weird keys, 40 keys, anything I asked with a smile. Nice guys, good work. They have tons of accessories too. Perhaps when they moved they hired a slightly rude person, or perhaps customers who go in with a attitude have troubles. But the owner is great, and I never felt slighted in any way. Standing there as often as I did, I heard him solve many difficult problems for people. For the paranoid, yes, I am a real reviewer, not a relative. It's a locksmith, not a luxury auto dealership. I don't expect anything but quality keys. read more

Saw the good reviews on Yelp and went in to this place yesterday to have a car key replaced. Apparently, there is a chip in my car key that makes it more expensive to duplicate. I spoke with one of the locksmith and he said it would cost me $135 to duplicate the key. After the work was done, he charged me $145. I said, that includes the tax right because you said $135 before the work began? He replied, no, the $135 price was for cash, since you are going to use your card, it is $145. After tax, I paid around $155 for the duplicate key. This was a detail that he left out during our conversation and had me pissed off as to the type of BS tactic he uses to get an extra few dollars from his customers. I will never use this place again. Sad, because it looks like he knows what he's doing but the shady sales tactic is something I'll avoid from here on out. By the way, look at the other bad reviews for this locksmith. Seems like the owner's shady dealings are a common theme. Stay away from this guy. read more

Unfortunate that our second experience with Leonard's was not as good as our first. initially we hired Leonard to purchased two lever-handled locks, and re-keying and duplicating a lot of keys for our small town-home building. Second time, we purchased three additional lever-handled locks, re-keying them to our exiting keys (ones purchased from Leonard's on the first go), and asked to purchase new security plates for the three doors the new locks were purchased. Issue #1. The new locks were re-keyed and installed, but we were told the security plates had to be ordered and would get installed at a later date. Turns out, our existing plates were modified (cut to fit the contour of the new locks) and were reinstalled. This in itself was OK. However, we were charged a second service-fee for coming out to our location to install these plates. Issue #2. The invoice for this second hiring showed that Leonard's had charged us an installation fee for the locks as well as for their re-keying. This I find strange. I have never dealt with any locksmith who charged for either installation or re-keying of locks purchased from them. Sure enough, looking at the first invoice from Leonard's, the one we purchased two locks from them and had them installed, the invoice line for installation read "N/C" (No Charge). Very standard mode of operation. And not just for locks, take a tire shop: If you buy tires for your car from them, they will install and balance them free of charge. If you bring your own tires, ones you bought from the internet, for example, they will charge you a fee for installation and balance. Issue #3. I called John (owner) to see if the second service-fee and the installation charges were a mistake. Turns out calling him to sort this out was one. He became pretty irate and kept raising his voice. When I explained that based on my experience, especially our first dealing with him and that his first invoice says "No Charge" for installing locks purchased from him, he threw a snooty remark back at me to the effect of "Congratulations, you got something free out of us". Seriously? It isn't like it was left off the invoice, that we got something for free by chance or luck. They explicitly wrote "No Charge" for installation, because, we bought the locks from them. It is unfortunate the manner in which Leonard's handled themselves, both in invoicing and tact in handling customer relations. I had hoped we had found a good local store we could use for continued business. Alas ... read more

one of two places that can make copies of keys for your steering wheel Club lock. in their wisdom, the company that makes the club gives you but ONE key when you buy it. leonard's has seventeen different key blanks just for clubs. most key places don't even carry these. unfortunately for me, my club is a tad too new for leonard's to have the key blank, so no go. i am planning to write the company to see if they'll sell me a blank to have cut. the only other key place that might have it is ralph's in the farmers' market on fairfax. will report. but if you have a marginally older club, leonard's is the place! read more

Really needed a key that was originally duplicated fixed because it did not work. The guy at the counter was super nice. He told me it was a hard key to get right so he adjusted my original one and also gave me 2 others to try. I was so grateful and asked how much but he did not take my money. Went in today for what I thought was a broken key fob for a used truck that i just bought. I replaced the batteries, but turns out the batteries were old and no good. Leonard's replaced the batteries and now it works great. What a very honest place! He could have tried to sell me a new key fob witch is a150 bucks, but instead it cost me 5 bucks...really appreciate the honesty!!! read more
